About China International Import Expo 2024 Exhibition Space
China International Import Expo 2024 is an exhibition space design formed by two pavilions that help Hong Kong companies expand sales in the mainland China market. The products pavilion covers about 1000 square meters and hosts 44 exhibitors of food and health goods. The service pavilion covers about 500 square meters and hosts 18 exhibitors from professional services and logistics. A two-layer metal tower, scrolling LED displays and a curved open wall raise visibility from a distance. A reusable framing system reduces waste on site.
Exhibition environments designed for international trade contexts have evolved into sophisticated spatial narratives that communicate institutional identity, cultural values, and professional excellence through carefully calibrated architectural, chromatic, and material vocabularies, and this installation exemplifies contemporary approaches to experiential brand communication within large-scale convention settings. The design demonstrates accomplished understanding of visitor psychology and circulation patterns, establishing immediate visual impact through the dramatically scaled curved superstructure that functions simultaneously as architectural envelope, branding surface, and wayfinding device, this sweeping horizontal element commanding attention across the competitive visual landscape of a crowded exhibition hall while creating a distinct territorial claim and memorable spatial signature. The chromatic strategy reveals sophisticated color theory application, deploying a high-saturation palette that balances cool spectrum dominance in the cobalt and azure architectural elements with strategic warm accents in vermillion, coral, and magenta that create focal points and prevent chromatic monotony, this complementary relationship generating visual energy and ensuring legibility from multiple viewing distances and angles. Technically, the installation integrates multiple material systems including what appear to be printed textile or vinyl graphics, illuminated signage technologies, metallic structural elements, and carpet or resilient flooring, each material selected for specific performative and aesthetic contributions to the overall experiential composition. The environmental graphic depicting an urban skyline embedded within the central display wall suggests thematic content celebrating connectivity, metropolitan sophistication, and international exchange, this photographic or rendered element providing figurative narrative content that grounds the otherwise abstract geometric and chromatic composition in recognizable imagery. The semicircular magenta carpet installation in the foreground demonstrates understanding of threshold psychology, creating a distinct entry zone that signals transition from general circulation space into the branded environment while its bold hue and organic geometry establish immediate visual differentiation from adjacent exhibitor spaces. The vertical metallic elements introduce linear rhythmic repetition and reflective material qualities that catch and multiply ambient and directed light, adding visual complexity and suggesting technological modernity through material association. The lighting design employs theatrical techniques familiar from retail and museum contexts, using focused illumination to create hierarchy, direct attention, and enhance material qualities while allowing less critical zones to recede through relative shadow, this chiaroscuro approach adding dramatic emphasis without uniform brightness. The installation invites consideration of how spatial design creates branded experiences that transcend simple information display, constructing environments that engage visitors through sensory richness, navigational clarity, and aesthetic pleasure, suggesting questions about the evolving relationship between physical and digital communication in professional contexts and the role of design excellence in facilitating meaningful exchange across cultural and commercial boundaries.

- Unique Properties
- To support Hong Kong companies in expanding their domestic sales in the mainland China market, two pavilions at CIIE 2024 were established: the Hong Kong products pavilion and the Hong Kong service industry pavilion. These pavilions served as vital platforms for Hong Kong enterprises promoting their branded services and products with ethnic cultural and regional features, such as foods, health, and household products.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The Hong Kong Pavilions at CIIE 2024 featured two distinct areas. The Product Pavilion, measuring 34.5m W x 29.1m D x 6m H, covered approximately 1000 sqm and hosted 44 exhibitors showcasing Food and Health-related products. The Service Pavilion, at 24.2m W x 20.7m D x 6m H, spanned around 500 sqm and accommodated 18 exhibitors from professional services and logistics sectors, enabling direct engagement with buyers for new business and partnership opportunities.

- Production Technology
- We emphasized an eco-friendly approach with a reusable framing system and LED technology to enhance both physical and digital experiences while reducing onsite wastage. In the Product Pavilion, we introduced a two-layer champagne gold metal structure with transparent accent panels, marble-patterned wall finishes, and an LED scrolling display board, creating a warm, modern, and sustainable design.
- Design Challenge
- The project required managing tight move-in schedules, site access limitations, and logistics with the event organizer. The design incorporated effective modular planning to expedite installation and minimize on-site complexity. By exploring creative booth design details, logistics solutions, and installation methods, we enhanced efficiency and reduced delays. Additionally, sustainable design was a key requirement, integrating eco-friendly materials and practices to meet the organizer's specification, and we proudly won the Gold Booth Design Award this year.
- Project Duration
- The project, held from November 5 to 10, 2024, at the Shanghai National Exhibition and Convention Center, highlighted innovative and sustainable design. As each pavilion had its own business focus and program requirements, we allowed total of six months from design kick-off to project completion.
- Operation Flow
- Located at the Shanghai National Convention & Exhibition Center, the largest exhibition complex in China, it was essential to have a strategic layout and distinctive design to improve visibility and attract traffic from afar. By enhancing the overhead tower design with striking elements, impactful lighting effects, and LED treatments, it stood out effectively while providing personal space for individual exhibitors from Hong Kong to showcase their services and latest developments.
- Research
- The Hong Kong Products Pavilion, themed "Food Gallery," seamlessly integrated Hong Kong design elements with open spaces and vibrant colors. LED displays and interactive cooking demos created a lively atmosphere, while cultural elements enhanced the experience, engaging buyers in Hong Kong's culinary richness.
The Hong Kong Services Pavilion featured a vibrant, arched structure with dynamic lines and colors, reflecting the city's energy. Utilizing sustainable materials and interactive elements, it enhanced visitor engagement while showcasing 18 exhibitors and promoting global connection. - Inspiration
- The food service pavilion design seamlessly integrated Hong Kong's rich cultural heritage, featuring traditional architectural elements. The two-layer overhead tower, complemented by scrolling LED signage, captured the essence of Hong Kong as a dynamic and vibrant international city. Embracing the theme of energetic rhythm, the Hong Kong service pavilion showcased a visually captivating curved open wall design, creating a harmonious sense of movement and dynamic flow. The colorful patterns vividly reflected the liveliness of the city's bustling streets.
