This process led her to create the collection that looks artistitc but still wearable. Through the shirts explorations, she found several interesting details and applied these elementsts to the silhouette, construction, and prints of the clothes. Also she did some collage becuase it reminds her of Mannerism art as well. The collage technique led her understand and create new structure of the garments.

Interview with Doyi Park on Mannerism Womenswear

What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
I am inspired by the Mannerism artist's approach. Mannerism artists studied classic art work and then recreated it their own way. I applied this method to the fashion. To me, the shirt is the most classic and formal fashion item regardless of the gender or age. So, I used it as a main media to show the concept.
What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
I wanted to know more about the garment structure. I explored how to construct the garment in sophisticated way.
What are your future plans for this award winning design?
I wanted to show or expose this collection to the public through the exhibition, social media, and so on.
Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
I just got inspired this concept. I like classic. That is why when I knew about the mannerism art, I felt intrigue about it.
Who is the target customer for his design?
A woman who likes the elegance and sophisticated mood with confidence attitude.
What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
Most of the garments are made from the shirts deconstruction experiment. So it has several hidden shirt details. Also it contains the various aspect of the clothes in one garment.
How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
Literally I was inspired by the Mannerism art, so I decided to call as the mannerism collection.
Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
I used lots of classic shirts to study the construction. Except for that, I used muslin, pins, adobe program, art supplies and so on.
How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
I wanted my collection to be checked by the experts of the fashion industry and wanted to get some feedback or reaction.
