Interview with Peter Stasek

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I wanted always to be a designer. For this reason I have participated since my youth in many drawing courses. Later I have studyed The Bauhaus University in Weimar and became an architect.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
The architectural concept matrixX architectures has been developed by myself and represents an innovative concept for architecture projects taking into account organic shapes and natural structures. Next to the progressive materials, the digital fabrication is amongst the most important creative components. An additional element of this concept is the inclusion of AR (augmented reality) in the form of audio and video surrounding concepts as well as holographic projections for visual space and structure expansion. The functional implementation of the projects is marked by an individual building and interior design and substantially contributes to the corporate identity of the company in the form of corporate architecture. The most important clients of matrixX architectures by Peter Stasek comprise multinational groups from the fields of new business development, biotechnology and lighting industry, operators of healthcare facilities, shops, shopping malls and others. Another project line is the development of facilities for renewable energies and environmentally friendly waste management. The creative main features of the projects of matrixX architectures by Peter Stasek are environmental soundness, steadiness and sustainability. The architectural projects by Peter Stasek have globally been presented on numerous architectural and design platforms and published by international publishing houses.
What is "design" for you?
The design is allways a visible concept expression, which is based on client requirements, reached designer knowledge and personal taste. The taste can always be improved but the taste feeling is not to learn.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
I like to develope and shape forms which are based on wise theory as surce. This can concern very small projects until to rerraforming of big urban development areas.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
My most favorite design is based on the connection between the tangible and intangible. For this reason exist many instruments, among others the holography or the sound design for architecture based on the measured material swinging.
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
Dental practice which design was based on the patient psychology.
When do you feel the most creative?
When I see a complex task which is to be define in form of design.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
To expand the bounderies of content visibility for each viewer or user.
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
It's never something new, it represents always the next step in form of materialisation of already existing imaginations and it is great.
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
The judging is always a personal perception and this is so ok. The act of performing is a personal act and the judging act is likewise a personal act. The consideration of a design or art object can differ millionfold.....
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
This is a very big challenge. Every designer should use the most progresive methods under the responsibilities for the society and the enviroment. Only in this manner is possible to extend the story of the humanity (a little bit).
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
The future of design is the utilization of the simplest materials in connection with progressive technologies, e.g. in form of 3d printing.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
One of my best solo exhibitions was in the Charles University in Praque. As a great recognition, I felt the invitation to the Architecture Biennale 2014 in Venice (Palazzo Mora). The next exhibition is expected to be in London next year.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
The biggest inspiration I can find exist in the nature. This represent my most important creation feed.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
My design is based on organic shapes which stand as counterparts to geometrical forms. I find this combination as the best kind of impression concerning my proposed style. I will never only create such forms which you can experiance e.g. within an octopus stomach. A little bit geometry need everyman.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
Now I am living in Germany, but I feel to be anywhere. For this reason I think to be able to change my current location aginst others at any time... Sure I feel the heritage affects of the europe culture but I am thinkink to be prepared to assume also the parts of design perception of every alien. For this reason I would like to cooperate in the near future with some Martians. The most important part of every creation development is to feel oneself free. This is the ultimate ambition I know....
How do you work with companies?
I cooperate with more companies concerning the design development, for example in the area of lighting design as well as of construction and building engineering.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
It depends on equirements which the company expectants. The best selection backround are always playing the accomplished works as an undoubtful designer assessment.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
The first right idea in form of a skech is almost the base for the finished design.
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
"Poseidon" a bronze scultpure shaped by my wife Luana Kroner-Stasek"Mephisto" a bronze scultpure shaped by my wife Luana Kroner-Stasek"Genesis" a bronze scultpure shaped by my wife Luana Kroner-StasekCini&Nils Lamp at my work tableVitra office chair at my work table
Can you describe a day in your life?
I have a very long shower time abot three hours daily for the reason of many interruption. The shower represent for me a thinking cabin and an important birthplace of many ideas. When an idea comes, I go to my work table and forgote complete to proceed the shower procedure for a long time...The next steps are following:working, meetings, working
Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
To be never doubtful about your creations. Never change everything after a lost business or competition. The good own design development needs more time for oneself, less suggestions made by the neighborhood.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
This is the game between to be successful or not. The positive is to use the possibility of self-portrayal. To make some imaginations come true. The negative is always to realize to be not able to come forward with any ideas ...
How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
it is very individual because this depend mostly on the client, the buiding owner
Who are some of your clients?
global industries such as the Abbott Laboratories as well as many private clients which wont to be not named
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
the early development stage, the first sketches and the first working model
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
The development of new industrial buildings under the sign of corporate architecture. The development of a new style of clinics that should be more human.
Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
The first design ideas are always develop by myself. For the further project elaboration I appreciate the contrubution of my team and other experts.
Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
Here are some big projects that are still confidential. In addition to vertical farming, it also affects larger agricultural projects, which should focus on plant production under the latest environmental requirements.
Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
I think that all creation processes have an unavoidable effect in terms of the quantum physical impact. Good ideas are stored in so-called morphogenetic fields. So the more good design we strive to develop, the more everyone else gets involved in the process and is indirectly influenced to improve their own tastes.

Designer of the Day Interview with Peter Stasek

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
One tries again and again to cover all areas of the desig: from the shape of a building to the interior to furniture design. For me, it has always been important to deal with topics that have not yet been commissioned. Only in this way can one go beyond the limits of reality so often established. However, it was always very interesting that after an imagination and the subsequent study of the topic then often followed by a specific assignment.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
The imagination is always at the beginning. The type of technical implementation is always secondary. It is possible to achieve the best results with the most primitive techniques (if you have no other option)
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
The imagination of the result is an accompanying effect throughout the entire development.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
At the moment, however, we are always working on several industrial plants under the aspect of a creative focus. But the realization of skyscraper with vertical farming would be the biggest challenge.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
Always start on the basis of your own conviction and not be easily influenced by other opinions.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
Especially important is the technical development as support for new designer ideas. For this reason, one should always be the first to pursue the idea alone, regardless of the technical options to be used later.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
Of course, first of all the overall appearance with regard to the expected function countsafter that, there is always a closer look at the execution or implementation of details. You can live with many styles of design when they are thoughtfully designed and implemented very well.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
That's a good question.Sometimes it is better to stop developing certain things a little earlier.
What is your biggest design work?
I still believe in it:the size is not the scale! It is always misleading when some believe that one million cubic meters of concrete determines the size of the architecture! For this reason, I consider some smaller projects as much more important than the larger ones. But to answer the specific question: the Dental INN practice project has given me an important approach to all future projects.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
Almost every day I ride a bicycle.I listen to music every day (mostly techno)I like hiking (Austria, Switzerland, Germany)And traveling is also very important to me:the main destination of this year is India
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
I think it is very important to stay relatively independent, even if this is not the easiest way. Only in this way you keep a clear head and can start almost anywhere without prejudice.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
Always demonstrating free thinking seems to me the most important message. Only then can the others come to the conclusion that there is not only a passable way which is dictated by a superior power

Extended Interview with Peter Stasek

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
My whole family consisted of architects and artists. Thus my study of architecture at the Bauhaus University in Weimar was a logical continuation. Nevertheless, from the outset I have pursued an organic language of form, contrary to the scholarly form of the Bauhaus teaching.
How did you become a designer?
After a long observation of the surrounding environment I came to the conclusion that only the organic language which is based on the evolution can be the real basis for a sustainable design = biomimicry.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
Design as a biomimicry in the form of architecture, interior and furniture design.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
Never stand still and always look for new things which are inspired especially in research and science.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
I believe in a good designer is always the form and function in line, with a great designer is still the emotion as an increase.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
If I can still admire a design after a long time as on the first day then it is for me a very good design with long-lasting value.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Good design is an important part of the culture of each individual. It can be interpreted as evidence of good taste, the already reached level of form understanding.
What is your day to day look like?
I would rather develop new forms of organically shaped housings which have very little to do with the present ideas. From these forms of housing I would like to develop entirely new landscapes, which in the form of artificial nature fit into the real nature and form a unity.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
The implementation of an organically shaped skyscraper under all environmental aspects. The interior structure should be designed in accordance with the external form. The use of new materials and techniques like 3d print would be the prerequisite.
Who is your favourite designer?
I think so far only a few components of this concept exist until now. The final design concept is still in development ... It is intended to include the new understanding of matter based on Qunten's phisics. It should include the new understanding of materiality. Maybe with the help of holography, there should be no distinction between the real and unreal parts of the design.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
With the help of augmented reality, everyone is given the opportunity to see what can be real expected. With this computing support, many things can be improved before it is implemented. However, the most important prerequisite for any development is always the idea which is born in the designer's head.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
Design is the visible shaping of all properties. In addition to the functional correspondence, it should also be able to arouse emotions.
