Dr. Aleksandar Rudnik Milanovac is an architect, urbanist, interior designer, artist, writer, and photographer. His work is unique in a matter of physical structure, but at the same time, he focuses his idea on designing the architecture that functionally and physically best interpolates with the environment. Rudnik is a sculptor and painter at the same time, with the one vision, to combine the architecture and arts into one structure. He uses symbols from the urban and also from the natural environment, to create the design that could attract the spectators and users in every positive way.

Interview with Dr Aleksandar Rudnik Milanovic

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
The real pathway for artist is constant upgrading of the sense for a beauty with a hard work on skills that in time will be more sharper and brighter. Since my childhood I draw a different kind of scenes from a real life, mixed with a copy from the cartoon scenery that has been published on paper. The satisfaction with those drawings spontaneous lead me to step by step to the decision to become a architectural designer.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
More than twenty years from now... 3d modeling was set up in a form that could help me to create and to see my design in every possible space angle, I start to practice architectural design in a very devoted way.
What is "design" for you?
Design is a moment in time, when idea of creation came out from a pile of idea of possible solution for the creation
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
Design is not a status of mind love to create something ,design is a gift to create everything that human needs in space.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
My Crane bird / Art museum that could land on all over the world
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
Steel, concrete, glass, fibre re-inforced plastic, composite and wood panels.
What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
Good divine vibration becouse of making something, that will have a purpose as an object , and that could in the same time produce a good vibration for everyone that could feel that positive energy.
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
Joy that the process of my design, could establish the communication with a real environment.
What makes a design successful?
The happiness of the people who could enjoy just to look or to use the space that I design.
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
There is no good, or bad design , just the design that provoke or don't provoke the spectators .
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
With a new materials ... but evolving couldn't happen, without an a good idea.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
In London in Vauxhall park...My next maybe in some gallery in Milano in Italy and Belgrade in Serbia off course.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
In Kragujevac / Serbia. My place for living could be everywhere on earth, but the Serbia and my hometown Kragujevac, has a great people and the nature enviroment and it is well enough, for a good design inspiration so far...
Can you talk a little about your design process?
step by step , until the design itself has stopped to ask for another one step...
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
Lounge chair,table,lamp,sofa,kitchen as a full designe items.
Can you describe a day in your life?
Enjoying in time that I could spend with my wife and daughter, who gives me the positive energy and inspiration for good working conditions and the chance to design something new and beautiful.
Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
First you look and "read" the masters design piece of art, to feel the energy and a path for creation , and when you feel inside that is the time to start ...create your own design with one special note... that the time for designing process is always in a comparative mode with the quality of the design itself.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
There is no negative way...the designing process is gods will , that's always results with a good cause.
What is your "golden rule" in design?
Do what you feel that is right to do ... and listen to your alter ego.
What skills are most important for a designer?
Computer skills just as an old school design with a paper and pencil.
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
when the design is in the right hands , there is always a time for everything
How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
Depends on a task, but always in time that could be expected .

What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
I enjoy in every type of design that is based on needs for an architectural creation
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
A new design creation for a new interesting people and spaces
Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
My design rises mostly as "me myself and J" production from beginning till the end but... it is always easier to work with a good team of professionals

Redesigne of my "TESLODROM" project / The designe for the Centre for Promotion of Sciences in Belgrade

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I made my first step as a designer before 25 years. In past two decades I made my design for RIBA Vauxhall Missing Link Competitions, LONDON/UK ; Ministry of culture ,Taipei Architectural Competition/ TAIWAN ROC; Ministry of science,International Architectural Competition ,BELGRADE / SERBIA ; City of Helsinki , nternational design competition for a proposed Guggenheim museum , Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and the City of Helsinki/ FINLAND
How did you become a designer?
Before I went to the college, I read a lot about all the design that was made by the masters of architecture. I was so thrilled about their work, and it was very easy for me to decide that the design process will be a part of my profession.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
Inspired by natural environment my every designe was in same time, commissione and inspiration.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
I will be happy to create some of my design for the Ministry of culture of any country in the world, but also the hotels owners and the companies of a various type of business , that could be interesting in my architecture as a possible place for work and enjoy.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
Just work hard and be patient ,and the reward will come, at the time when you maybe didnt expected to happen in some magic moment in future.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Draw with pencil first, and then try to create that sketches in the computer.
What is your day to day look like?
My day start with a big and wide open view to the sky and sun, and some smooth music like SADE that goes with every weather condition.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
I do not belive in trends, except to create with materials that could be useful in architecture modeling.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
With just one look , in a situation when good design make your focus in the space between all others design near by.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
When there is no place for any question like " maybe it could be better".
What is your biggest design work?
The Museum Vagrant . Inspired by natural environment and in same time, commissione and inspiration for me and for everyone who could have a time to enjoy in my design.

Frank Lloyd Wright, Oscar Niemeyer and Santiago Calatrava ,Constantin Brancusi...
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
Casual, but if there is a chance to enjoy in some good suit I wear it with pleasure.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
The life is empty, without opportunity to give your time and knowledge to someone who need it, and deserve to work for them without payment.
