About Nima Bavardi

Nima Bavardi was born in Tabriz, Iran. He started painting at a very young age. His first exhibition of caricatures and paintings was held when he was only 5 years old. He received many awards and made an achievement in his way through art. He holds a bachelor of industrial design degree from the central Tehran branch of IA University. Later in 2015, he went on to complete his master’s degree in industrial design. He has a passion for designing products that people use in daily life and has recorded up to 57 international design awards throughout his professional career up to now. He is a university lecturer and a jury member of A’DESIGN AWARD in Italy since 2017, INDUSTART AWARDS (Ukraine), Dordaaneh (Iran), ILDA (Iran), EDISON AWARDS (USA), The Stevies International Business Awards (USA), The SIT Furniture Award (Switzerland), and LIT Awards in the USA. In addition, he is a full member of IAD, IBSP, ICCI, IDC AIBA, and TCA.

Interview with Nima Bavardi

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I was born in an artist family. I started painting and caricature from 3 yrs old and my first exhibition was held when I was just 5 yrs old. Being a professional designer was my dream.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
In my opinion a design which be able to make connection with the user, speak and be a friend is a good design and that is all i do in my designs and of course joining all aspects of aesthetic, ergonomic, form, function, usabality, accessibility and ... complete the meaning of a good design. I like designs that contain mentioned items.
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
My first design for a company was a multi-functional lighting inspired by islamic patterns.
When do you feel the most creative?
When i see shortage and gaps in society my mind become ultra active and creative to find the best solution by designing .
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
In my idea technology is growing faster and faster Vice versa spirit is forgotten so I think emotional should bold in design. Of course all aspects of aesthetic, ergonomic, form, function, usabality, accessibility, ... should be follow up.
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
I feel victorious because of successful connection between my design and the user.
What makes a design successful?
A design that a user can connect easily, love and live with it and besides of that be a solution for his/her problem and necessity without any damage, is successfull.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
A designer should design not only for present time but also for future! It means that he or she should know essential factors about sustainablity and saving energy and ... the use them So that do not threaten the future life!
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
The last exhibition of mine was "Idiran Design Award Exhibition" that my awarded design was exhibited here in Tehran.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
I look around and search about natural and bio resources then find a linked relation between and start to enliven the artificial one.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I am Iranian, born in Tabriz and living in Tehran. Yes of course and I consider the culture and beliefs of the people of a society, where I design for. Iran is islamic country and designers may follow islamic patterns and forms. You can see these fantastic patterns specially in architectural buildings.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
Competitions specially A'Design is a good source to find and select good designers. There are various categories and companies by their field of work can find them easily.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
A designer does not watch things around like others he or she gaze at them.
What skills are most important for a designer?
There are many skills needed for a designer but the most important skill is good and understandable presentation of a solution, idea and design and some software can be useful.
Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
I sktech in my sketchbook and after I design the selective concept mostly by Rhino Ceros software.
What was your most important job experience?
Every project is important for me as a designer. I take care of it in every job or researching.
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
applying doctorate of Design this year and after graduation make my own design studio.

Designer of the Day Interview with Nima Bavardi

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I have started design professionally since 2015. My recent project was Fidibox that I designed for Tehran subways.
How did you become a designer?
Since my family's art touches, I grew up with art and design. After graduation master in industrial design I started my professional job.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
Most of my designs are inspired by nature. On the other hand I follow my signature in designing products. Designers should notice that a good design should easy to connect and easy to use. In addition an emotional connection can attract the users to love the product.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
Actually I can not be alive without design. I do not get tired even when i design days and nights.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
As i mentioned before I grew up in an artist family and sure I impressed with it.
What is your day to day look like?
Drinking a cup of coffee during my work also listening my favorite musics.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
Everything God created has its own beauty that attracts human so most of my designs are inspired by beautiful nature.
Who is your favourite designer?
There are many names in my mind but actually i am real fan of Karim Rashid.
What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?
Attending to A'Design award is a good way to practice to do best designs and also it gave me a high motivation in my professional job.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I have hold a master degree in industrial design and now working as a freelancer designer.
How did you become a designer?
In my perspective, objects have emotions and speak with users since the designer penetrates his feelings into the object.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
Definitely I picked by my own since I have had a good taste in art and design.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
I am a real sucker for designing objects. It can be either furniture, jewelry, product or fashion because creating something in an innovative way fills my sense.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
They should keep in mind that the first failure is not the last failure but the key of success is not giving up.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
In my point of view, the depth of knowing the users needs and feelings are the only keys to succeed.
What is your day to day look like?
Honestly, disabled people are the most vulnerable group of a society, so they need more attention. Design is one way to make them feel they are in centered.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
Designing an abstract building that can be written in history for future genre.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
The number of design masters are high but a man whom I get inspired mostly is Karim Rashid.
What is your biggest design work?
Most of Karim Rashids' designed objects are my favorites since know the users needs and feelings well.
