Designer of the Day Interview with Enoch Hui

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I received my architectural training at the University of Bath and practiced architecture and interior design in both the UK and Hong Kong. I found Atelier E in the year 2009, where every project is a symphony of sequential and intertwining spaces with unique and refined detailing carefully arranged to produce a journey of discovery. This approach reflect my motto that life is full of joy, so enjoy it as much as you can, while you can. - and very much the same idea he always wants his client to experience in his design.I am a full member of the Hong Kong Designers Association HKDA, an executive committee of Hong Kong Interior Design Association HKIDA and the chairman of Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards APIDA. I was selected as a winner in Perspective’s 40 under 40 Recognition 2013. I have also been a guest critic for design institutes at home and in the UK.
How did you become a designer?
I have been in love with art since I was a teenager and to be frank, I was like zero interest in architecture or interior design before entering the architecture course in the University of Bath (UK) in the year of 1996. My major of study was suggested by my parents and I had no objection at that time, it became my lift time career.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
I have no particular style I fond of in the design world, I concern the most is the story behind each of the projects, of how you deliver the message and the design language to each individual client. I always believe in architecture and interior design should reflect the owner's need but not self-centred.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
I found it particular exciting during the story development of the projects as if making new movies.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
Most of my design thinking was inspired from medias other than interior design and architecture, I hate reading design magazines, I think that somehow limits my creativity. Travelling always brings me new ideas.
