Designer of the Day Interview with Jingfeng Huang

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I have been in the design industry for 6 years and have served companies such as BGI, Shanghai C-STORE, and Guangzhou NYSE:ZPIN.
How did you become a designer?
I have a passion for art and I became a graphic designer. Design is like a language, it can lead life to the beautiful end. I thought I would be a chef at first, but later I got a deeper understanding of graphic design because I came into contact with graphic design.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
Before doing any design project, I will first assess what the main problem of this project is. Then the consensus with the commissioning party is reached. Only the clear understanding of the purpose of the design, and its design direction will not go wrong. When designing a project, some current tools or technologies are also added. In the premise of saving materials, I generally do not recommend that you first make a physical model. The computer-assisted design diagram can reflect the effect. I think every new project is an entirely new challenge.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
The process of designing a project is like making friends with a stranger. The most exciting part of the whole process is when there is a conflict between you. And this design process is the most exciting. When I am designing a project, I like to listen to stories.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
Speaker, I think designers should have skills in storytelling. Professor Wang Shouzhi had the greatest impact on my design work because he and I really knew what a true design was.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
My path of growth is often reading and observing in my life. The Chinese have an old saying called “Science to Know”. I want to be the future myself. The plan for the future is to continue learning and continue to explore the possibilities of graphic design in Oriental culture.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
Young designers need to know what they want to do, is it really ready.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
My suggestion is: store knowledge. The stock of knowledge determines how far your design vision can look and determines how far your design journey can go. Therefore, in the life of the design, it is necessary to constantly supplement their knowledge at any time and place, in order to achieve more and more ideal conditions.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
Adhere to your own personal design style, I hope to explore a completely own design.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
First of all, I think that a product or project is not well designed. Only this product or item is the best habit for the person in the moment. A good design doesn't require much language, and it allows users to be comfortable with it. And this is a good design!
How do you decide if your design is ready?
With the accumulation of time, I will have more feelings and dissatisfaction with the previous design. But I will still insist that this design project solves this problem in this time environment. That is the finished design. It is only when the design is placed in the user's environment to constantly feedback, and then make new adjustments from the design. The polished design is a successful design.
What is your biggest design work?
My biggest design work is to explore the research between Oriental elements and Chinese characters. This is a project that takes a lot of time to create and implement.
Who is your favourite designer?
Emperor Huizong - Zhao Ji, a great man who has no past and no one. If there is a chance to talk to a designer who died, I would like to talk to him.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
I was born in a small city where people speak Hakka. Because I am a Hakka, I easily integrate into other people's cultural circles. I think that culture is a material that affects a person's design or belief in life.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
I am an independent designer and my job is primarily in branding and packaging design. I think that a good designer should possess the characteristics of independent thinking and personal qualities that are good at telling stories.
