Interview with Jing Chen

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
Influenced by my uncle when I was young, I developed a strong interest in art. My passion for art has shaped my interests and hobbies, ultimately leading me to where I am today.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
At present, the studio is still under construction and has not found a satisfactory partner for the time being.
What is "design" for you?
Design is a creative process that involves transforming ideas, plans, and concepts into tangible products, systems, or workflows. This process usually includes steps such as research, conceptualization, prototyping, testing, and implementation. Designers need to consider user needs, functionality, aesthetics, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness. Design can be applied to a variety of fields, including industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, architectural design, interface design, and interaction design. Design is not only about appearance; it is more important to solve problems, improve user experience, and meet user needs.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
I particularly enjoy designing projects that incorporate unique regional cultures. This enhances my curiosity and ignites a strong desire to explore them further. To understand its cultural background and history
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
My favorite design is one that is unexpected yet practical. Good design aims to achieve the ultimate goal within the theme, and the process in between is challenging. It requires repeated revisions, patience, time, and mental stamina. At the same time, it is sometimes necessary to return to the starting point and reconsider the original design intention, similar to a piece of art created for people to appreciate and use. Designed products can interact with people and create a joyful atmosphere. I believe this is a good design, and I personally appreciate it.
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
The first project I designed for the company was a shoebox featuring an imperial design style inspired by traditional Chinese aesthetics. The colors of blue, bright yellow, and earthy yellow are reminiscent of the imperial style of China's Qing Dynasty, emphasizing the nobility of the shoes.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
My favorite materials include various special papers, environmentally friendly materials, natural textures, and petal materials. I enjoy designing websites using techniques such as hot pressing, digital printing, digital hot stamping, UV processing, engraving, three-dimensional molding, screen printing, gold plating, flower baking, injection molding, and die cutting.
When do you feel the most creative?
I find that I am most creative after drinking black tea during the day.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
First of all, I will focus on the basic functionality of the product. Secondly, it is important to consider whether the design can meet people's emotional needs, their experiences, and satisfaction with the product. Finally, it is important to consider whether the design can mitigate environmental damage.
What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
When I design, I consider the perspective of consumers or users and conduct market research to determine the direction and goals of the design. This is important because it is not just artwork; empathy is crucial, and this can enhance sales.
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
When my design is realized, I am very happy to see it being recognized by customers, and all the efforts are worthwhile. While earning money, I also gain recognition of my own abilities. The design that is recognized and produced is like my own child, with the hope that it can be recognized by most people. This is the biggest reward for me
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
Design is the process of creating beauty, and to judge the quality of a design, not only needs aesthetic vision, but also needs professional standards. When evaluating a design, I first look at its functionality, which is the foundation of the design. A good design must be able to meet the actual needs of users and achieve its established functional goals. Next, I look at how innovative the design is. Good design can often break through the routine and bring people freshness and surprise. This innovation can be formal, it can be content, or even the subversion of traditional ideas. Then, I think about the beauty of the design. Beauty is subjective, but there are rules. I will evaluate whether the design is harmonious and in line with aesthetic principles from the aspects of color matching, shape and line, space layout, etc. I will focus on sustainability of design. Good design should respect the environment, reduce the consumption of resources as much as possible, and achieve sustainable development of economy, society and environment. I think a good design should be functional, innovative, beautiful and sustainable. These four aspects are my basic judgment criteria for good or bad design, and they are also the goals I have been pursuing in my design practice.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
First, designers need to be socially responsible. This is mainly reflected in the following aspects: 1. Promote cultural exchange and diversity: Designers communicate information and values through design language and have the responsibility to respect and promote communication and understanding between different cultures to avoid cultural conflicts and misunderstandings. 2. More convenient and inclusive products and services through design. 3. Enhancing the public aesthetic level: Designers bear the responsibility of guiding and improving the public aesthetic level, thereby fostering the healthy development of social culture. Secondly, designers need to take responsibility for the environment. This is mainly reflected in the following aspects: 1. Promote the concept of sustainable development: Designers should prioritize environmental protection and sustainable development by utilizing renewable resources and environmentally friendly materials whenever possible, and by minimizing environmental pollution during the production process. 2. Minimize Resource Wastage: Designers should optimize designs to reduce resource wastage during the production, use, and disposal processes of the product, and prolong the product's service life. 3. Enhancing Energy Efficiency: Designers should prioritize energy efficiency by aiming to minimize energy consumption and carbon emissions when planning buildings, residences, and transportation systems. In short, designers need to recognize and take responsibility for the social and environmental impact of their design actions. By focusing on social issues, promoting sustainability, and improving energy efficiency, designers can contribute to a better and more harmonious society and environment.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
The evolution of the design field can be described as dramatic, from the most basic graphic design to today's virtual reality and interactive experiences, designers are constantly exploring and innovating. The essence of design has never changed, it has always been to solve problems and improve people's lives. However, as technology advances, designers have more tools and platforms to achieve this goal. For example, designers can now use AI and big data for precise user research, as well as VR and AR technologies to provide more immersive experiences. For the future design, I believe that with the development of 5G, AI, big data and other technologies, the design will be more intelligent and personalized. Designers of the future may no longer need to draw by hand or use complex design software, but will only need to complete the design through simple programming or direct dialogue with AI. In addition, design will also be more interdisciplinary, and designers will need to have more knowledge and skills, such as programming, data analysis, psychology, etc. This change brings us more possibilities.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
My last design exhibition was in China, and the next exhibition is expected to be abroad
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
The design inspiration of my work comes from Chinese Zen culture, which integrates Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism cultures To cultivate creativity, we must first dare to challenge the status quo, not be afraid of difficulties, and have the courage to try new things. In this way, we can learn from failure and constantly optimize our way of thinking. Secondly, read more books and observe more, expand the knowledge horizon, enrich the mind, and provide more materials for innovative thinking. Finally, keep a positive and optimistic attitude, believe that you have the ability to solve problems and have the courage to face challenges. My inspiration comes from a passage said by Koshinobu Ahara, a Zen master in the Tang Dynasty in ancient China. Seeing mountains is mountains, seeing water is water, seeing mountains is not mountains, seeing water is not water, and finally seeing mountains is still mountains, and seeing water is still water, the sublimation of people's thought and cognition has deeply touched my infinite association of design works, thus promoting the birth of this work
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
I have chosen Zen minimalism as my design style. Out of my love for Chinese traditional culture and history, I am immersed in exploring the possibilities of design. In the process of discovery and learning, you will be amazed by the profound wisdom of the ancients. This wisdom has the potential to transform your way of thinking, your way of life, and even your values. It can also help you navigate relationships among individuals, between people and objects, between individuals and nature, and between humans and the environment. The primary goal of this work is to enhance individuals' mental cognition through product design, promoting awareness and improvement. It aims to evoke the positive connotations of cultural charm, transcending national borders. This positive artistic concept enables more individuals to comprehend Zen wisdom and derive benefits from it. My design methodology involves collecting and studying traditional Zen culture, understanding it, exploring the relationship between culture and design themes and brands, and making breakthroughs in mindset and thinking. This approach allows for better execution of design, distinguishing it from the design of other products.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I live in Changsha, Hunan Province, China As a Chinese individual who deeply appreciates traditional culture, I am profoundly influenced by Chinese traditional values. Therefore, my designs are inevitably imbued with elements of this rich cultural heritage. I believe that a design inspired by ancient wisdom can gain more recognition worldwide, much like the saying "all roads lead to Rome," which is globally known.
How do you work with companies?
As a designer, working with companies is extremely essential. First, I will communicate with the company leader or project manager to understand their design needs and expectations. Then, I will try my best to combine my design concept with the company's brand image, and thoroughly consider the product features and user experience. During the whole cooperation process, I will maintain excellent communication and coordination ability, timely feedback on the progress and accept suggestions. At the same time, when I encounter problems or challenges, I will actively seek solutions and work together with the team to ensure the smooth completion of the project. In addition, in the process of working with the company, I also learned how to balance my own creative ideas with the needs of clients. Occasionally compromises need to be made to meet client requirements, but also to ensure that you do not lose your unique design style and creative thinking. Through these collaborative experiences, I gradually improved my skills in playing a role in a team, solving problems, and driving projects forward. All in all, through continuous cooperation with companies, I understand that teamwork, communication and flexibility are essential skills for a successful designer. These experiences have made me look at work more maturely, and I am willing to continue to learn and improve my performance in the workplace.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
In terms of cooperation between companies and designers, I think the first thing to be clear is the cooperation goals and needs of both sides. Companies should be clear about the type of design services they need and the expected results, and designers need to understand the company's brand positioning, market positioning and target group. Only when the two sides have precisely defined the goals and needs of cooperation can they cooperate better. Secondly, for the selection of excellent designers, the company can consider the following points: First, the professional ability and experience of the designer. An excellent designer should have valuable industry experience, creative thinking and solid aesthetic concepts; the second is the ability to understand the project and communicate. A great designer should be able to thoroughly understand the needs of the company and maintain excellent communication with the company team; finally, work attitude and responsibility. A designer who is responsible, patient and willing to communicate will make the collaborative process much easier. In addition, when working with designers, I recommend that companies pay attention to the protection of intellectual property rights and sign detailed contract terms. At the same time, close contact should be maintained in the process of project advancement, and timely deal with 馩 problems or adjust the plan. In short, when choosing a great designer and working with it successfully, both parties need to respect each other completely, be honest with each other, and constantly put the achievement of the common goal first. Only in this way can we get twice the result with half the effort.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
Packaging design is a genuinely crucial link. It is directly related to the competitiveness of the product in the market and in sales. When designing a package, I normally follow the following process: 1. Identifying Needs: First, it is necessary to clarify the customer's needs and requirements for product packaging and understand the product characteristics, target audience and market positioning information. 2. Market research: By analyzing competing products and understanding market trends, we can better grasp consumer preferences and the direction of the industry and provide a reference for subsequent design. 3. Creative conception: Based on customer needs and market research results, start the creative conception phase. At this stage, we need to give full play to our imagination and propose a variety of possible solutions based on the actual situation. 4. Design sketch: After selecting a few creative schemes that have the most potential, start making preliminary design sketches. This phase requires full communication with the customer and continuous revision and improvement of the design scheme. 5. 3D effects drawing production; after determining the final design scheme, professional software was used to produce 3-D renderings to show the appearance of the packaging effect through 3-D presentation and to more precisely simulate the actual use of the month. 6. Sample production and validation: Transforming 3D renderings into samples. In this process, it is necessary to continuously revise and improve until customer requirements are met. 7. Production document output: After sample confirmation, it is necessary to output the documents needed for production, including printed manuscripts, process instructions, etc., and deliver them to the manufacturer.
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?

Can you describe a day in your life?
It was a full, busy day. After rising in the morning, I performed my morning exercises according to plan, and found my body extremely relaxed and energetic. At work, I faced some challenges and difficulties, but through hard work and focus, I was able to solve them. After work, I spend time with my family, which makes me feel extremely cheerful and fulfilled. With today's experience, I understand profoundly that life will always have its share of challenges and difficulties, and to deal with them with optimism and steadfastness in the face of them; At the same time, learn to enjoy the great moments in life and cherish every moment with family and friends..Only by continuing to work hard, facing life's problems head-on, and being kind to yourself and others, can we live a full and happy life. Thus, "Do things sincerely and responsibly, be optimistic", "spend more time with family and friends", "enjoy the moment"

What is your "golden rule" in design?
The Golden Rule of design is a deeply influential principle that can be applied in various fields and aspects. The Golden Rule of design, as I understand it, includes respect, fairness and care. First, we need to respect the opinions and rights of others and learn to listen to and respect each other's points of view when dealing with others. Experience of managing design time: When managing my design time, I find it extremely vital to have a clear plan. First, I will list all the tasks that need to be done and rank them by priority. Then, I set reasonable time limits for each task to ensure that the work is done efficiently. In addition, I also leave some flexible time to deal with emergencies or adjust plans. In addition, I realized that staying focused is crucial to productivity. During work, I try to avoid distractions, turn off phone notifications and social media, and focus on completing tasks within the allotted time. Finally, in the process of managing design time, it is also essential to summarize the experience in a timely manner. By reflecting on the problems and solutions encountered in their work, and continuously improving their work style and skills. What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
Design work is a job that requires creativity and imagination, and my favorite type of design is graphic design. Graphic design is an art form that conveys information and expresses meaning through elements such as images, words and colors. I like this type of design work because it allows me to use unlimited imagination in a limited space and attract people's attention through concise and clear visual effects. When it comes to graphic design, I prefer to try different styles and techniques, such as illustration, typography, poster design, etc. Each style can bring different feelings and experiences to people, and this is exactly what I strive for - to touch others with my work and make them resonate. In addition, graphic design also needs to have a deep understanding of the target audience and take into account the effect of information delivery. This requires us to continuously learn and improve ourselves, accumulate experience in practice and keep an open mind to unfamiliar things. In a word, I love graphic design work, because it can stimulate my creativity and let me share my ideas and emotions with others. I hope I can do more significant and creative work in this field in the future.

At the same time, I will also pay close attention to market dynamics and changes in consumer preferences, integrate fashion elements and environmental protection concepts into the design, and promote the packaging industry to a more sustainable development direction. Next, I hope to gradually establish my own brand and open my own studio or online platform. In this way, projects can be selected more flexibly and international markets can be expanded. At the same time, they can develop team members to grow together and participate in public welfare to give back to society. In a word, I am full of confidence in the future and look forward to challenges and opportunities.
Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
Each of my projects is my own design. Although it was a bit gradual, I was able to better control the rhythm of the whole design and make a product that met expectations. Of course, if I have the opportunity to work with others in the future, I will be involved.

Overall, the design process experienced a variety of emotional ups and downs. From the initial excitement and excitement, to the anxiety and frustration that may occur later, and finally to the satisfaction and sense of achievement brought by success. These are common and normal emotional changes in design work, and they all have a positive impact on my work.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
First of all, my upbringing is an essential factor. As a child, I was influenced by my uncle. I have a keen interest in painting, sculpture, handwork and other arts. Secondly, my educational experience has also had a profound impact on my career choice. In college, I chose industrial design as my major and actively participated in various design competitions and project practices. These experiences not only improved my design ability, but also made me more determined to pursue the design industry in the future. In addition, the interpersonal relationship and market demand that I came into contact with during my internship and work also shaped me to become a designer. Through communication and cooperation with clients, colleagues and other industry professionals, I have gradually formed my own distinct aesthetic and creative way of thinking. In general, my background enables me to have a diversified vision and an open mind, and to respond flexibly and provide innovative solutions in the face of complex and changing market demands. These special features have shaped who I am today - a professional who loves and is dedicated to design.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
After graduating from university, I became a member of the design group. I simply left school, looking forward to a bright future, and successfully engaged in design work in Xiamen and Shenzhen. In this process, I encountered numerous setbacks and tests of workplace PUA and human nature, but it is these setbacks that make me gradually stronger and continually temper my heart and patience. In the future, I want to design some excellent products as often as possible, and then participate in some significant competitions to promote myself and continuously break through my design level. On the other hand, participating in the competition, winning honors for themselves, can better establish service relations with customers, receive customer resources, and win cooperation. Finally, to build their own design studio, looking for the right partners, together with the pursuit of excellence, for the dream. In the future, if I have the opportunity, I will continue to do some designs related to Chinese traditional culture and some agricultural products, so as to solve the design problems in the sale of agricultural products for the vast number of Chinese farmers.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
To youthful designers, I really want to say: What was your original intention? Why do you choose the profession of design? Do you insist on it because you love it or simply for survival? The energy gathered is different, and the result will be different. If you are not firm in your will, you may not be able to go on this road, and you will waste your youth and regret the choice you made. Then firmly go on, go your own way, let others say. I am sure you will succeed. To be honest, I did not get any effective advice from my tutors and professors. They invariably gave advice from their own standpoint, and what advice was mostly one-sided, or lack of practical proof, purely theoretical, so it may not be suitable for their own development. But from the boss, customers, distributors, these business operators, learn a lot of experience and knowledge. In my spare time, I will find some books related to design, visit museums, historical sites, design exhibitions and other activities, or browse some well-known design websites on the Internet, or large supermarkets at home and abroad to broaden my horizon. After all, the horizon determines the height and depth of design.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
As a successful designer, I think other professional designers should first pay attention to their own professional quality and skill level. In this extremely competitive industry, only by continuously learning and improving their design capabilities can they remain invincible. Secondly, we should be good at listening to customer needs, and maintain excellent communication with customers to understand what kind of design works they want. At the same time, we should have the courage to express our own opinions and creativity, and show confidence and professionalism when communicating with customers. In addition, teamwork is also extremely valuable. In a team, everyone should respect each other, cooperate with each other, and accomplish tasks together. But also need to have a strong time management ability and pressure resistance ability, in the face of work pressure can still maintain high efficiency work. Finally, I believe that successful designers should keep an open mind and keep innovating. With the rapid development of society, modern and unique design concepts will be more popular. Therefore, we need to actively pay attention to industry dynamics, absorb current knowledge, broaden our horizons, and dare to challenge traditional concepts to innovate. In short, in this industry full of opportunities and challenges coexist, in addition to having excellent technology, but also need perseverance, continuous progress, tough work. I hope that every professional designer can find a suitable path for their own growth and development, and achieve their own success!
What is your day to day look like?
Get up at about 7 a.m. every day, and at 9 a.m., listen to light music to get into work. In the rest, I will look out the window of the lovely scenery, improve the eye fatigue, regularly at work rest, play a mobile game to relax the mood, make a pot of black tea, eliminate fatigue. I think this is the most pleasant thing.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
The so-called trend is only popular for a period of time, which has its time restriction. However, I choose to adhere to my own personal design style. I do not deliberately pursue a certain design style, but I will learn the positive aspects of the fashion trend and integrate them into my own design. Of course, if you need to, you can try to develop some popular products. What's the difference between challenging it? I will think about the reasons for the popularity of this style, whether it can be applied to different designs, or whether it can be combined into my own design style. Integration is all that matters
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
When judging the design of a product or project, I normally look at the following aspects: First, I focus on the functionality of the product or project. A suitable design should be able to meet the needs of users and be able to provide convenience and practicality. Whether it is a product or a project, its functionality is a crucial factor. Secondly, I will consider the aesthetics and user experience of the design. A perfect design is not only about functional satisfaction, but also needs to consider visual effects, operational fluency and user experience. Excellent design should be able to bring people a sense of pleasure, and let the user get a comfortable and pleasant experience in the process of use. In addition, I also look at whether the design is innovative and sustainable. A great design should be able to lead the trend, break through the tradition, and have long-term development potential. At the same time, with the increasing awareness of environmental protection today, sustainable development has become one of the critical criteria to judge the quality of a design. Finally, I think that the fit with the market demand is also one of the essential indicators to measure whether the product or project design is excellent. No matter how excellent the design, it is difficult to succeed without the support of market demand. All in all, in my understanding, "excellent" design should have features such as functionality, aesthetics and user experience, innovation and sustainable development, and meet market needs.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
When the design theme is clear and the idea is fresh, the subsequent execution work will be smooth, and the project can generally be completed on time and with excellent results. However, if the communication with the customer is not smooth in the current period, it will have a negative impact on the subsequent implementation of the work, which is more of a consumption at this time. If the communication with the customer is not smooth, I will suspend the work in hand, and first think about how to better communicate with the customer about the project and build trust. Commercial packaging has secured the customer and essentially solved the scheme. However, if it is competition work, I will spend additional energy and time considering the possibilities in the design, and the time cycle of thinking will be longer, several months or even half a year. The design cycle is also relatively lengthy, and there will be pauses in the middle, or changes numerous times, until finally, oh! This is what I want, and this instinct tells me it's ready to race.
What is your biggest design work?
At present, I think the best work is the work of seeing mountains and rivers. When I was commissioned by a friend to develop this product, I spent a lot of time and energy designing this product. At the beginning, I wanted to break through myself, prove myself, explain my understanding of traditional Chinese culture in a way, and how to embody the excellent wisdom in culture. How to guide people's emotions? How to resonate with consumers? Since the design theme I chose was cultural and ideological, I encountered a lot of problems in the early stage of the design. First, the relationship between the design theme and the brand, and the relationship between the product attributes and the liquor culture. Later, I found that the three different drunken states of drinking are related to the triple state of seeing mountains and seeing water. At the same time, the scene of drinking, the purpose of drinking, and the sociality of drinking are also consistent with the ideological connotation of seeing mountains and rivers. Some people truly want to drink, wine is merely wine, some people drink to drown their sorrows and drink for social purposes. At this time, wine is no longer wine. Finally, return to reality, after the feeling of drinking, wine is still wine. Therefore, the theme of wine is closely linked with people, and it was later decided to use a humanoid Zen bottle to carry this culture, and the theme pattern combined with the clever interpretation of landscape Chinese characters, the perfect interpretation of the design theme. The display of the bottle and the outer box correctly reinforces this cultural character, and in order to allow users to better pour the wine, the side of the bottle is designed to be flat, easy to hold the wine, while the linear texture of the bottle and noisy skin increase the friction, preventing the bottle from slipping from the hand when pouring. Unfortunately, due to my limited personal condition and ability, the rendering result and final rendering effect of this project did not reach the perfect state in my mind. Through this project, I realized that there are still limitations to working alone. Imagine if there is help from team strength, will there be different results? At present, I am developing health tea product packaging. If I have the honor to present in front of you, please give me a lot of advice.
Who is your favourite designer?
For this problem, I think the design of Ken Yuan, Mr. Pan Hu and Mr. Deng Xiongbo is very cool. They are designers who are at the top of their field, and I aim for them to surpass myself and go further and further on my own track. If time could travel, I would like to make a communication journey with Vincent Willem van Gogh, Alphonse Maria Mucha, Giorgio Morandi, Shi Tao and the Great Eight Mountain People.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
At present, my favorite cities are Changsha and Xiamen. In the creative process, music is essential. It can relax my mood and stimulate my creative desire. Innate cultural attributes will certainly affect their own design projects, which are determined by the growth environment. I currently live and work in Changsha. First, design is essential to the progress of society. Excellent design can improve production efficiency, improve people's quality of life, and promote the development of technology and culture. For example, in the field of industrial manufacturing, correctly-designed machinery and equipment can considerably improve production efficiency; In urban planning, reasonable layout and attractive buildings can improve the living environment of residents. Second, excellent design also has a profound impact on individual life and culture. Exquisite home decoration, fashionable clothing and convenient and practical products can bring personal pleasure and create a unique and colorful cultural atmosphere. Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
At present, I work alone without a partner. As a designer, I think when choosing a business partner, what I value most is whether the partner has the sense of innovation and professionalism. First of all, the sense of innovation can bring continuously updated design concepts and product ideas, so that cooperation projects always remain dynamic and competitive. Secondly, professionalism, including in-depth understanding of industry knowledge, excellent communication and coordination skills and efficient execution skills, is crucial in the process of cooperation. In addition, I will also consider whether the partner has a stable and reliable production supply chain and a good business reputation. In short, when choosing a business partner, I will comprehensively consider all factors and conduct in-depth communication and exchanges with potential partners to ensure the maximization of interests of both parties and achieve a win-win situation. The most essential things to look for in a person to hire or partner with are his or her character, honesty and trustworthiness, professionalism, creativity and teamwork. Whether the two sides are alike-minded, pursue the same goal, and have the courage and conviction to give everything to this goal. When talking about work and corporate culture, I think "striving for excellence" should not be forgotten. As a designer, the core challenge I face is changing market demands and fierce competition. Design trends are evolving as technology evolves and consumer tastes shift. Therefore, I need to be sensitive to market trends and user needs at all times, and continuously learn and improve my design ability. At the same time, competing with different designers is also a challenge. I need to keep an innovative mind and find my own unique design style to stand out. In this process, perseverance, courage to try different things and communication and cooperation with peers are extremely valuable ways to accumulate experience. By continuously learning lessons and translating them into practical action, you can achieve greater success in your career path. My job responsibilities include communicating with customers, understanding their needs and proposing corresponding design solutions; research market trends and competitors to ensure that our products are competitive; work with different teams to complete projects and ensure quality. As a designer, it is extremely essential to have certain characteristics and personal traits. First of all, a great designer should have creativity and imagination. They need to be able to continuously come up with fresh and distinct design ideas and be able to translate those ideas into actual work. Secondly, a proper aesthetic sense is also essential. Designers need to have a keen sense of color, shape, proportion, etc., in order to create works that meet aesthetic standards. In addition, the ability to communicate is also one of the essential characteristics of a great designer. Effective communication with customers, team members, and other stakeholders ensures that the project runs smoothly and achieves the desired results. In addition, patience and meticulousness are also essential qualities for successful designers. When faced with complex projects, it takes a lot of time to perfect every detail and maintain a strong level of focus. Finally, in the pursuit of excellence cannot be careless, great designers should have the pursuit of excellent quality and the work of the heart. Only by continuously learning and mastering current skills can we gain a firm foothold in the design field and achieve success. In short, a successful designer should possess the characteristics and personal characteristics of creativity, aesthetic perception, communication ability, meticulousness and pursuit of excellence. Only with these qualities can we stand out in the fierce competition and achieve our brilliant career goals.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
As a designer, I give back to the community that nurtured me by giving free design workshops. In these workshops, I will share my design experience and techniques to help people who are interested in learning design improve their skills. I also plan to work with local schools on art education programs to give young people further exposure to art and design. Through these initiatives, I hope to inspire more people to love design and inject more creativity and vitality into the community. And allow yourself to grow and improve in the process of giving back to the community. I have always had great admiration for the unpaid work of designers or artists or architects involved in humanitarian projects, which makes the profession so glorious. A great design can speak for itself, without too much explanation, and the public can understand and understand it. When I participate in design events and conferences to support junior designers, I first make sure I am well informed about the latest trends and developments in the design industry. At events or conferences, I actively share my experience and knowledge, and encourage junior designers to dare to express their distinct ideas and creativity. At the same time, I will listen to their point of view and give constructive suggestions. At design events, I normally offer some practical tips and methods to help junior designers better cope with challenges. For example, in project management, I might share some experience in time management or teamwork. In terms of creative thinking, I may introduce some ways to inspire, improve productivity, and so on. In short, when it comes to supporting junior designers, my goal is to be a resource that they can trust and rely on. By sharing experiences, listening to needs, and giving guidance and encouragement, they are able to meet challenges with confidence and continue to grow and improve.

Extended Interview with Jing Chen

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
Entrusted by a friend who has been engaged in the liquor distribution business for a long time, I had the honor to participate in the design of high-end liquor packaging with the aim of deeply interpreting and promoting traditional Chinese culture. The project aims to closely integrate the thousand-year treasure of Chinese liquor with the profound essence of traditional culture through packaging design. This will create a cultural symbol that highlights the quality of the liquor and resonates with consumers, ultimately enhancing the brand image and market competitiveness. I obtained a bachelor's degree in Visual Communication Design from a well-known art institute in China. During my time in school, I systematically acquired interdisciplinary knowledge in areas such as graphic design, three-dimensional modeling, materials science, and consumer behavior. This helped me build a comprehensive and strong theoretical foundation for design.
How did you become a designer?
The traditional Chinese culture, encompassing Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, serves as a wellspring of creative inspiration for me, enabling my artistic endeavors to delve deeper. Influenced by my uncle when I was young, I became a designer due to my strong interest in art.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
I chose to be a designer; it was not something I was forced into.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
What I design is not important; what is crucial is the practical problems my design can solve for others.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
Young designers need to enhance their proficiency in professional knowledge, practical experience, industry insight, innovative thinking, and other aspects through continuous efforts and investment. Only by doing so can we maintain a leading position in the rapidly changing design industry and create more influential and valuable design works.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
In my opinion, the difference between a decent designer and a great designer is mainly reflected in several aspects. First of all, excellent designers pay attention to technology and practice, can skillfully use a variety of tools and software for design, and can perform creative expression according to customer needs. The great designers not only have excellent technical ability, but more importantly, they have profound cultural heritage and extensive knowledge reserve, and integrate the social, historical, humanistic and other aspects of thinking in their works. Second, excellent designers generally focus only on the project themselves and strive to complete the task correctly. Great designers, on the other hand, are more concerned with overall impact and social value, conveying environmental, sustainable development, and human emotional and spiritual aspects in their work. Finally, from a career development perspective, a great designer may only be successful in one field or for a certain period of time; great designers, on the other hand, tend to have a broader vision and a longer term plan, and can achieve outstanding achievements and have a profound impact in different fields. In conclusion, in my opinion, "excellent" emphasizes professional skills and execution, while "great" encompasses additional macro and global factors.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
Good design is not only dependent on a single standard but is a comprehensive reflection of many factors. Excellent designers will flexibly use and balance these evaluation criteria according to specific project objectives, audience characteristics, market environment, and other factors to create design works that meet functional requirements and are rich in innovation, humanistic care, and aesthetic value.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Excellent design is of great value to both individuals and society. First of all, excellent design can improve the quality of life. Whether it is home design, product design or urban planning, it can bring people a more pleasant, convenient and lovely living environment. Secondly, excellent design can improve work efficiency. In industrial production, excellent industrial design can make products easier to manufacture and use; in the office space, excellent spatial layout and equipment design can also improve the efficiency of employees. In addition, investing in excellent design can also bring financial returns. Carefully built excellent products or services will usually be favored by the market, and get additional consumer recognition and support. Therefore, in the commercial field, it is also extremely necessary and practical to pay attention to the excellent design of product packaging, advertising and other aspects. In conclusion, everyone should invest in excellent design, because it can not only improve our own quality of life and work efficiency, but also promote social and economic development. At the same time, in the process of pursuing excellent design, it is also necessary to respect the rights and interests of the original and abide by the law.
What is your day to day look like?
If there is time, I will design packaging for agricultural products for the vast group of Chinese farmers to help them solve their selling difficulties, as my parents are also farmers. I understand their challenges and aim to resolve them; this is what I should do.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
The first dream project I want to realize is to redesign the brand I used when I was a child and pay tribute to the lovely memories of my childhood. Secondly, I want to do some brand design of agricultural products for farmers in rural areas, hoping that they can better sell their products, obtain profits, and exchange for a better life.
What is your biggest design work?
My favorite designers are Yuan Yanzai, Pan Hu, Deng Xiongbo, Zhang Aihua, etc. At the same time, I also work hard for them.
Who is your favourite designer?
My best work is the Jinshanjianshui white spirit packaging. Firstly, its appearance design is relatively simple, following the principle of "the ultimate is simplicity". Secondly, it can evoke one's reflection on life cognition. Lastly, its design concept is unique. The main graphic is a perfect combination of the Chinese characters for "mountain" and "water", which is also a fusion of form and meaning, and a unified expression of the brand "Wei Dao" and the product name "Jinshanjianshui". You are me, and I am you. Wei Dao: seeing the mountain is not the mountain, seeing the water is not the water; with wisdom: seeing the mountain is still the mountain, seeing the water is still the water.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
As a designer, it is extremely essential to improve your professional level. First of all, I will continue to learn and accumulate knowledge and skills in related fields, including the latest design software and fashion trends. Secondly, I will participate in further design competitions or exhibitions, so as to exercise my creativity and practical ability. In addition, it is also extremely beneficial to communicate with different designers. You can learn a lot of lessons and techniques from them. In addition, maintain attention to detail in your work, and continuously reflect on your work to try to do better in every project. Finally, it is necessary to maintain patience and perseverance, not to give up easily in the face of difficulties, and constantly maintain the enthusiasm for the design career. These are the methods and experiences I have taken to improve myself as a better designer. Through continuous learning, practice and communication and cooperation with others, I believe my professional level will be further improved.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
If I hadn't become a designer, I might have chosen to work in marketing or creative planning. In this career, I can give full play to my imagination and creativity, promote products or services in various ways, and cooperate with people in different fields to gain more inspiration and experience. At the same time, there is also a lot of room for development in the field of marketing and creative planning, and you can continuously learn new knowledge, master different skills, and improve your professional level. Also, if I didn't become a designer, I might consider starting a tiny business or going freelance. In this way, you can arrange your time and work content more flexibly, and you can completely develop your talents and potential. Although there may be additional risks and challenges on this road, there will also be additional opportunities and gains. In short, in any industry, you need to work tough to achieve your goals, and to remain confident and look forward to the future. No matter which path we choose, we must go on resolutely at every stage and continue to accumulate experience and improve our ability.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
Design is a kind of creative activity, which involves the analysis of problems, the proposal of solutions and the realization process. In my understanding, design is not limited to the field of aesthetics or art. It is more about the method and process of how to meet specific needs and achieve specific goals. First of all, design requires a deep analysis and understanding of the problem. This means understanding the reasons behind the problem, the factors that affect it, and the needs and expectations of the stakeholders involved. Second, the design needs to come up with innovative and workable solutions. This may involve technical, material, process and other considerations, and requires a combination of factors to find the best solution. Finally, design also includes the process of turning ideas into reality, where effective communication and teamwork are crucial. To sum up, for me, design is a systematic and creative process in which analysis, thinking and practice are used to find the best solution to meet a specific need. Whether it is a product, service or experience, design thinking can be applied to improve and innovate.
What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?
First, my family, who have always supported me with unconditional love and encouragement. Secondly, my teachers and mentors have given me valuable guidance and advice in my studies and work. In addition, there are numerous friends and colleagues who accompany me in life and progress together. In general, there is no one who is my biggest supporter, but numerous people together constitute my growth path. Everyone has given me strength and inspiration at different times and helped me when I was in trouble. Therefore, I am grateful to all the people around me who have helped me, and I am willing to pass on this gratitude.
