About Gao Pin

Gao Pin graduated from Lu Xun Academy of fine arts with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a master of Arts degree. Now she is an professor in College of Shenyang Jianzhu University art institute. The current courses include graphic and font creativity design, Poster Design, Advertising Design. She has been engaged in many commercial design projects, and Art and design works have been invited to exhibit for many times. She has participated in international exhibitions such as Beijing International Design Week, Poland International Poster Biennale, Finland Lahti International Poster Triennial, Peru International Poster Biennial, Korea International Digital Poster Invitational Exhibition, Asian Design Biennial, Colorado CO2 Global Poster Biennial, Leipzig International Poster Exhibition. She has published more than 10 works in international journals; design works are included in large literature books such as "30 years of Chinese Design" and "Yearbook of Chinese Designers". Published works "The Application and Development of Advertising Visual Elements", "Advertising Design and Creative Development", "Poster Design", "Business Space Design—The 4th Dimension Brand", "Brand Packaging Design”She is a member of China Packaging Design Federation, director of China Designers Association, member of China Film and Television Art Association, judge of China Packaging creative design competition, and judge of Italy a 'design award and competition.

Designer of the Day Interview with Gao Pin

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I graduated from Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, and later I worked in many companies, which are related with Internet , brand design and magazine design. Currently, I am engaged in design teaching at Shen Yang Jian Zhu University.
How did you become a designer?
I like painting when I was a child, and later I went to Academy of Fine Arts to study. I am majored in visual communication design and I love design very much, because this is a job full of challenge. I would like to use my skills to help others, and to do public welfare in my favorite way.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
I often use sketches to locate the work, and use the comprehensive material to get the creative elements, and finally make use of the computer aided system to finish the job.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
As a Chinese designer, I prefer to integrate Chinese element into my works. Even for some commercial design, I also recommend customers to consider this style.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
When I was in University, Kari Piippo, a famous international graphic designer in Finland, came to our school . I was honored to take part in his workshop when I saw the works of his and liked this style very much. After the end of the course, my design was selected as the first prize. His lessons had great influence me. Thank you very much for my teacher.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
I have a lot of interests, and hope to continue to work, and I hope I can come back to Academy of Fine Arts and get some new major in art.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
I think that no matter what kind of work you are engaged in, interest is one of the most important factors of success, and this is the motivation of innovation.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
There is an ancient language in China: Practice makes perfect. More Practice lead to more perfect.
What is your day to day look like?
Now, teaching design is my job. In addition, painting, design and reading are what I like to do.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
I will learn more about design trends through exhibitions, internet and travel, but I think I prefer to stick to my design style.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
Good design is the perfect combination of artistic, functional and technical.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
When the customer is in agreement with the designer and the design is perfect, then,the design is completed.
What is your biggest design work?
My favorite work at present is the poster "Mommy's taste", which is exhibited in internationally renowned exhibitions, and it boldly displays different Chinese plots. I have always been interested in characters, and have also designed many word based business designs. Now, the creation is continuing. I hope to have a design exhibition that belongs to this theme in the future.
Who is your favourite designer?
There are a lot of my favorite designers, such as Chinese Chen You jian, Han Jia ying, Finland national top designer Kari Piippo and so on
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
I like traveling, painting and photography, and taking time out every year to go out and walk, which help to inspire my design innovation.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
I think a good designer should have a positive attitude, trustworthiness, persistence, insight, rich imagination and good communication skills. These are all honed in the practice of continuous practice.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
I am an environmentalist, my design will be related with environmental protection every year, and also will be showed in important exhibitions in China and abroad. Hopefully it will advocate people to reduce environmental damage through my works.
What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?
A' design award gives me a lot of opportunities and surprises.here, I can join many of the world's outstanding designer award competition at the same time, also learned a lot of new design information, I feel challenging,and hope that through their own efforts to achieve better results.
