Interview with DMITRIY SEMENENKO

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
Design is the ability to invent and implement what God has given you freely and without restrictions. I think, every person wants to touch the process of creating something new. Everything in our life does not happen, but to a certain plan. I didn’t think before that I would be able to become a Designer, but this happened today, this is what I like to do the most.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
The main team, when creating and inspiring our projects, is my family. My wife is the main inspirer and collector of the main images of our designs. The son is proficient in programs and understands the construction of the picture and space. This is the best thing that can happen during the evening dinner to get inspiration from his team. There are also attracted the best experts in each specific divisions and areas. The team is our studio.
What is "design" for you?
"This is life. There are many adventures expressed in our works!" If say quickly and accurately.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
Today, I am very attracted to parametric design with the use of new computer simulation technologies.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
There are a lot of different natural materials with the addition of modern technologies such as New Plywood and composites. Processing technology modern CNC-based machines.
When do you feel the most creative?
Only, when I get an idea and inspiration from God and support from my team. It is not dependent on the time of year or day.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
These are the various aspects of lighting, ergonomics and parametrics
What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
The path of creation is always accompanied by emotions, feelings and worries. Often this is excitement and anticipation, it’s like the door ajar, but you don’t fully understand what’s behind it and only in the process of completion. You will see the whole picture and you can at this moment either be happy and admire or bewilder and think this is what should happen.
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
If the Design touched you and you created the design we will put a lot of effort and put a piece of yourself, it is very important to bring it all to the performers and the investor. And then at the finish, having seen the implemented design will overflow with high emotions. This happiness is a delight that everything worked out. Because the final result depends only on its team of project participants, from investor to worker.
What makes a design successful?
Success in design is an assessment that is put by people. They are seeing, use, get inspired to participate or use your product design. When I was able to convey my idea to everyone and you were understood, this is success. When a team supports you it cannot be unsuccessful.
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
I want to see what goal and the main idea that the designer wanted to show. What worries you and what emotions this design causes. Sometimes you want to ask if you can use it or just look, I like when the design is practical and applicable in Life.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
It is necessary to give that talent that you got for free to the benefit of people, always understand that each person has his talent to always remember and know that after you there is another generation of your children and most importantly not to forget the Creator Everything we use.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
We live and see how everything in the world develops, it gives inspiration to move on. And if you look at ordinary flowers on the field, then no one else has created anything better, we have a place to look and strive for.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
Moscow Minstroyiform House on Breska presented some of our projects, also BATIMAT RUSSIA
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
Watching various sources, you often see a beautiful one and this is put off in your mind. It happens that the very task set before you makes you open up and show what is inside you, it happens unusually supernaturally not according to your scenario, but in a special way and always in different ways. It is very inspiring, you know that not everything depends on you.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
Parametric design, I think you can talk about it as a style, is gaining momentum and there is potential for development. Computer modeling against the background of numbers are one of the main approaches to this style. One of the main goals in computer modeling are not to get carried away with electronics so much so as not to forget about the very essence of man.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
Almaty of Kazakhstan. The city itself has roots of Soviet constructivism. Also, Kazakhstan have territories when you cannot cross the whole territory in a few days when you are surrounded: steppes, forests, lakes and mountains. All this delights and reveals all the hidden talents, allowing you to reveal and show your projects.
How do you work with companies?
We cooperate with many companies, as a team is needed to design an even more needed team to translate what was designed, in each area there are companies that we prefer, trust and cooperate.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
It all starts with the customer, it is very important to hear and understand the preferences. Work will have to be adjusted and proposed for successful completion.
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
These kitchen furniture, sofas, chairs, lighting and of course the table at which you are going to.
Can you describe a day in your life?
It all starts with objectives and goals that wake up with me. The day can be different, sometimes it is monitors and numbers, sometimes it is beautiful raiders and drawings. There are dusty construction days and objects. And even the happiest days of moving in your new interior of your customers .
Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?
Just say do it and don't stop. Look for something that excites your heart from what you become happy, and do not forget to say thank you.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
Of the minuses, this is not a normalized working day, because if you come up with an idea, you can visualize it all night long, but this is a plus because it is the best sometimes in your designs.
What is your "golden rule" in design?
Create something that will work, cause positive emotions and please you and a lot of generation after you .
What skills are most important for a designer?
To be a visionary. To be diligent and patient to unite and communicate. See that which is not yet. The desire to reach the end.
Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
For inspiration and verification of their statements Internet resources. The pencil for sketches, a computer for translating drawings and files, a helmet for realization!
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
Work which is connected with accuracy and the course of construction depends on it, these are drawings and architectural design usually done in the morning, before lunch, while there is concentration of attention. All the rest of the time you can spend in the works and thoughts about design and art!
How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
Standard answers to this question are 20 m 2 for 1 working day, but these are only technical parameters. It all depends on the object and the task.
What was your most important job experience?
Одним из таких опытов было участие и сотрудничество с другими дизайнерами над одним проектом сложной и нестандартной квартиры
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
Parametric design. New, non-standard, complex, but at the same time unique and causes a bunch of emotions.
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
Develop moving forward, more and more trusting your projects to the team and expanding the boundaries of your work beyond your borders!
