Interview with Andreas Guskos

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I studied Architecture and Urban Planning and received the degree of Master Engineer Architect. On the levels of Ph.D. D.Sc. and Full Professor (Belvedere Professor) I studied Art. For me design is a way of presenting philosophical issues in a way that they can be perceivable by human senses. In the context of such possibilities I always wanted to be a designer.
What is "design" for you?
Design is a way of presenting philosophical issues in a way that they can be perceivable by human senses.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
Works that are pointing out the way that nature and universe is buildt.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
No favorite material, but favorite being behind creation - mathematics (Logos)
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
Make progress in the exploration how the universe is buildt by the means of art, science and technology.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
Progress in the exploration how the universe is buildt by the means of art, science and technology.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
Last exhibition: International Print Triennial in Krakow 2024. Next exhibition: at the Twelfth International Interdisciplinary Symposium on Art, Science and Technology MEDEA 2024 Pentamychos" www.medea2024.eu
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I live in Szczecin, Poland. I am both Greek and Polish. I like living in this part of the world and I think it is a big luck that is making possible to think beyond survival.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
Mindfulness, exploration, experiment, mixing things, getting out of routine, focus science and technology, focus on natural phenomena.
Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
At this point: Mandelbulb 3d, Midjourney, Gen 2, Chat GPT, Suno, Google Translator, Adobe Master Collection, Inkjet Printer, 3d Printer, Arduino environment and more.
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
The design works that are associated with the philosophy of nature, because I like the exploration of the way our universe is buildt.
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
To explore new territories and reach places that have never been visited.
Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
Playing with the possibilities of artifitial intelligence in the visual and sonic fields.
Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?
By moving on the ocean of information in the mathematical universe we are in the situation of explorers, who were sailing out on the sea and discovering new lands.
