About Hexa Plus Firepit
Hexa Plus is a firepit designed for gardens and outdoor spaces. The hexagonal form suits a group of six to ten people gathered around a fire. The design combines a fire bowl with a cooking hob and a grill that can be set at two heights. The hob is made of 10 mm steel sheet for even heating and good thermal inertia. A support holds a boiler above the fire, and a cut logo on the side of the tank supplies air for combustion. Adjustable feet keep the product stable and level. The body is made of laser cut sheet metal that is bent, welded and coated with electrostatic paint.
The Hexa Plus Firepit by DESIRO VISION represents a distinguished achievement in contemporary outdoor furniture design, meriting recognition through the A' Design Award for its sophisticated integration of formal elegance with practical functionality. This work engages with enduring traditions of hearth design while asserting a decisively modern visual vocabulary through its bold material contrasts and geometric clarity. The designer demonstrates particular accomplishment in the resolution of the base structure, where six curved steel panels describe sweeping parabolic arcs that simultaneously evoke organic growth patterns and express confident engineering principles. The chromatic decision to juxtapose warm golden-yellow powder coating against matte black surfaces creates immediate visual impact while establishing a clear functional hierarchy, the celebratory warmth of the base suggesting welcome and gathering while the darker upper assembly appropriately references the transformative space where fire will ultimately reside. Technical sophistication emerges through the modular configuration that allows the cooking grate apparatus to be repositioned or removed, extending the object's utility across culinary and purely atmospheric applications. The hexagonal geometry permeating the design, from the six-sided base footprint through the bowl form to the cooking surface, creates visual coherence while perhaps evoking traditional associations between the number six and harmony, balance, and domestic completeness. One observes how the elevated positioning of the fire bowl creates both practical advantages for heat distribution and aesthetic benefits through the sculptural negative space that allows the form to breathe within its environment. Viewers are invited to consider how this design transforms the primordial human gathering point around flame into a contemporary statement of considered living and shared experience.

Bending and welding of the sheet - Design Challenge
- The most difficult part was to be able to homogenize all the functions that the Hexa + firepit currently has and to identify the best option, considering functional and aesthetic features and cost optimization.
- Project Duration
- This project started in November 2019 and the final version of this product was launched in the summer of 2020. The design of this product is 100% Romanian and its production was carried out in Cluj County, Romania.
- Operation Flow
- The grill is designed to prepare food and is made of 3mm sheet metal and steel, guaranteeing a high resistance over time. The grill holder and the tub are also made of 3 mm sheet metal. The grill pan is made of 10 mm steel sheet. The legs of the grill pan are made of 3 mm thick sheet, protected with paint in the electrostatic field.
The components of the grill pan are: Grill; Support grill; Stove; Bowl; Foot; Adjustable foot; Grill lid. - Research
- The vision was to create a multifunctional and practical product. The material from which the product is used restores the resistance of the product over time, the maintenance or rehabilitation of the product being easy, during use. Another advantage is that it is a perfect material for cooking, evenly heating the surface of the grill, hob, etc.
The tub, which is used for campfires or as a heater on cold days or evenings, is a solution to protect green spaces. - Inspiration
- The concept of this product was inspired by modern design stealth trends, having as main feature the pronounced edges, which gives the product strength, power and masculinity.
The hexagonal shape was chosen as the optimal surface for a number between 6-10 people who can enjoy socializing around a fire or for the outdoor cooking experience, by the side of multifunctional product.
The design of the grill lid is inspired by the shape of a diamond. - Image Credits
