About Il Pausa House Private Home
Il Pausa House is a private residence built in Jakarta, Indonesia. The design uses a parametric system to define both the geometry and the structure. Sculptural interventions on the facade create tension between contrasting elements, while the interior offers fluid transitions between spaces in horizontal and vertical directions. The size and position of the facade openings follow a detailed solar study, view axes and occupant height, so natural light is spread evenly inside. The entrance is set above street level and welcomes visitors on arrival.
Revano Satria's Il Pausa House Private Home exemplifies a profound engagement with sculptural architectural expression, positioning itself within the broader trajectory of contemporary residential design that privileges bold geometric articulation and material refinement. The residence appears to draw upon the formal vocabularies established by deconstructivist practitioners while synthesizing these influences into a coherent domestic program that balances dramatic exterior presence with inhabitable interior warmth. The compositional achievement lies in the orchestration of intersecting angular planes that create dynamic visual movement while maintaining structural logic and functional integrity, a synthesis of engineering ambition and aesthetic aspiration that characterizes the most accomplished works in this tradition. The chromatic strategy demonstrates sophisticated restraint, employing an essentially monochromatic palette of whites and grays that allows the interplay of light and shadow to articulate surface and volume with nuanced subtlety. This approach invites contemplation of architecture as temporal art, as the building's appearance transforms throughout the diurnal cycle from the harsh clarity of midday to the atmospheric poetry captured in this twilight documentation. The ceremonial staircase functions as both circulatory infrastructure and symbolic threshold, its illuminated risers creating a processional pathway that ritualizes the act of homecoming and elevates quotidian domestic entry into experiential event. The integration of biophilic elements through cascading vegetation introduces necessary organic counterpoint to geometric precision, suggesting an understanding of dwelling that encompasses both intellectual rigor and sensory comfort. The transparency achieved through extensive glazing establishes dialogue between interior domestic sanctuary and exterior architectural expression, allowing the building to communicate inhabitation and warmth while maintaining formal monumentality. Viewers might consider how the interplay between solid and void, opacity and transparency, geometric precision and organic softness creates an architecture that serves both as sculptural object and nurturing shelter.

- Unique Properties
- The geometric exploration of the Il Pausa morphology aimed to maximize the client's lifestyle, a series of calculated geometric and sculpture like interventions on the facade exploits the tension between conflicting elements. In contracts to the internal areas, which are designed to have greater fluidity in transition between the spaces in both the horizontal as well as the vertical elements. Il Pausa is designed with the intention to welcome any visitors at the very entrance.

- Production Technology
- One significant features that defines the design of the project is the application of a parametric based system for the geometry and the structure. The geometry is optimized to the sunlight and reflection that goes uniformly inside the house. The approach was driven through a detailed solar analysis on the structure, with great attentiveness given to the eastern and western facades. The distribution of the facade's openings were heavily contingent on view axes, occupant height, and the uniform distribution of natural light. Il Pausa House is realized after a long study and construction phases that took more than 6 years to complete
- Design Challenge
- The client's requirements and requisite were very specific and detailed, the primary difficulty was to address the client's request to live in a home that is visually stunning and unique, yet simultaneously maintain the conventional cultural requirements local home. The other challenge arose from the complicated yet very specific flow of activities required within the entire project; where the house serves as a base for the client's profession without hindering in the slightest the day to day residential activities of the home's occupants.
- Project Duration
- The project started in February 2016 and finished in February 2022 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
- Operation Flow
- The project is one single architecture residence for a client who needs a house that structurally challenging, visually stunning while maintaining a highly efficient working machine as a house. The final result according to the client is a unique house where they are proud and happy to have because it brings happiness to the family and their productivity significantly improved
- Research
- The Il Pausa House is one of the residential units in Indonesia to address the challenge in construction and design. The Il Pausa House takes a completely Avant the house addresses issue at a local scale. One of the first residential units to address the challenge in construction and design. The interplay between function, form, light, environmental performance, social response and local assimilation has transformed what is usually considered to be a mundane residential dwelling, to one that has pushed the boundaries of construction and design evolving into an architectural landmark that has become unique to the fabric of the city
- Inspiration
- An idea is highly contagious; plant the smallest seed of one and it can grow and multiply into reality. We always been fascinated with the idea of combining the purest and most elementary architectural knowledge with an unorthodox approach to design. The idea of exploring the transition between these two realms excites us tremendously. The house was designed with this particular mindset; A single and specific design approach that unites various psychological elements allowing us to dream of
