About Lang Chuan Cuisine Lounge
Lang is a restaurant and lounge in Shenzhen, China, serving Sichuan cuisine during the day and drinks at night. The interior is arranged as a black box divided into themed areas named after tequila sunrise, black cherry, blue margarita and sunset martini, each with its own colours and character. Chinese references such as Sichuan opera and the panda are combined with western materials. In the entrance corridor, layered red curtains of pure copper, electroplated red, descend from the ceiling. A red water bar is made of pure copper and corrugated acrylic.
GBD's Lang Chuan Cuisine Lounge exemplifies the contemporary tendency toward experiential hospitality design, where dining transcends mere sustenance to become immersive theatrical encounter. The space appears to draw upon deep wellsprings of cultural memory, channeling the reverential atmosphere of ceremonial halls and sacred spaces into a secular context of culinary celebration. The commanding central sculptural installation, with its stacked vessel forms suggesting traditional storage jars, ritual containers, or ceremonial objects, functions as both functional bar element and symbolic axis mundi connecting earthly dining experience to transcendent aspirations reflected infinitely in the mirrored ceiling above. The chromatic strategy demonstrates sophisticated understanding of color psychology: the enveloping ultramarine establishes contemplative remove from quotidian existence while concentrated warmth at the compositional center draws diners toward communal gathering. This interplay between cool expansive environment and warm focal intimacy creates psychological comfort within dramatic spectacle. The material palette reveals careful attention to surface qualities, from the mirror-like floor amplifying spatial complexity to the textured translucency of the central sculpture suggesting craft traditions elevated to monumental scale. Lighting design emerges as co-equal with architectural form in shaping experiential qualities, with controlled illumination creating zones of intimacy within the larger atmospheric envelope. The bilateral symmetry references classical architectural traditions while the contemporary material vocabulary grounds the space firmly in present-day design discourse. What elevates this interior beyond mere functionality toward artistic achievement is the synthesis of cultural reference, material innovation, spatial drama, and atmospheric control into unified experiential whole. The viewer might contemplate how the space transforms the act of dining into ritual participation, inviting consideration of how contemporary design continues ancient traditions of creating meaningful spaces for human gathering and celebration.

- This is a leisure social "art museum" that can eat during the day and drink wine at night.The restaurant looks like a black "magic box".It uses the names and colors of tequila sunrise,black cherry,blue margarita and sunset martini as the theme of each area,each space has a different character,there is a collision between Eastern and Western cultures and aesthetics,it integrates Chinese Sichuan opera and panda characteristics into the design,collides with western materials and oriental elements.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The dining area of the restaurant is about 380m2. The customers of this restaurant are high-end business people and Internet celebrities. In the flat layout, we will pay attention to the privacy and sense of space of eating, so there will be relatively less seating in the seating setting. Then the open dining area is divided into three independent and open dining areas of ABC. Area An is mainly 4 seats, area B is a table seat for 2 to 4 people, and area C is a table seat for 4 to 6 people. If there are more than 10 people, set up two large private rooms.

- The main dining area uses the environmentally friendly red, blue and black 3m film material, the red fish-shaped water bar is made of pure copper, the middle is made of red corrugated acrylic, the ground is made of artificial stone with stable color, smallpox mainly uses mirror dry hanging, the red silk curtain installation of the network celebrity corridor is struck with pure copper and then electroplated into red, and the VIP dining room uses art texture paint as a space wall.
- Design Challenge
- The entrance corridor of the restaurant sets the tone with the art of Sichuan opera, As an important art and symbol of Bashu culture, among the rich expressive elements of Sichuan opera, we will use the red silk satin dressed in Sichuan opera as an artistic technique, winding down from the ceiling, separating the aisle, making the space more flexible and elegant, while leaving consumers a sense of mystery, The layered red silk satin installation is struck with pure copper and then electroplated into red. The red whale-shaped water bar in the black main dining area is made of pure copper, and the transparent part is made of red corrugated acrylic.
- Project Duration
- The project was completed in April 2022 in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China, and has been in operation since then.

- In order to meet the guests' dual needs for food and spirit, the restaurant creates a dramatic experience that satisfies all aspects of taste, vision and hearing through environmental factors such as distinctive design, color matching, music, flame lights and so on. let guests enjoy the combination of food and art in the process of eating, and experience the promotion of traditional cultural innovation to the traditional quintessence culture.
- Research
- The need of modern people to eat is not only to solve the problem of food and clothing, but also a kind of spiritual need. Designers in the design process to get rid of old, innovative, perfect, so that the restaurant's food needs, aesthetic needs, spiritual needs are guaranteed. In the process of creation, the selection and application of the elements of Chinese Sichuan opera is also the process of inheriting and carrying forward the traditional Chinese drama.
- Inspiration
- The restaurant is inspired by Chinese culture: the mask of Sichuan Opera, which is the artistic treasure of Sichuan opera.The design idea of the restaurant comes from the aesthetic ideas of the new generation of consumer groups"maverick, experience first".Designers capture the innovative forms of contemporary art and design the original national trend IP with panda as the content, transforming the regional characteristics, culture, craftsmanship and materials into a unique visual language.
