About Piren Residential House
Piren is a residential architecture project. The spaces intertwine and define the usable zones of the house. Natural materials were used in the implementation. Wood, stone and glass can be found on different levels. Details masking the technical infrastructure of the building were individually designed. Passages and glass walls allow optical contact with the surroundings.

- Unique Properties
- The resulting space is non-obvious, it harmonizes with the surroundings through the interpenetration of functional zones, which facilitates mutual relations between the residents. Built of natural materials, enriched with individually designed furniture elements, the interior architecture also allows you to find a zone full of peace and intimacy. The entire functioning of the facility is supervised by intentionally hidden technology that controls the quality of air, light, temperature and sound.

- The project has approximately 450 square meters spread over 3 floors. 1 underground and two above-ground.

- Production Technology
- The choice of materials and technologies resulted from the aesthetic and functional needs of both investors and designers. The technical infrastructure of the building was almost completely hidden. The list of materials includes specially tinted ash wood, granite floor slabs in the color of volcanic tuff, transparent protective glass at the stairs and mezzanine. The whole was to be connected by the whiteness of the walls, which served to reflect light and display artistic works.
- Design Challenge
- Design is a process in which abstract challenges are transformed into forms, signs, symbols embedded in space. This project was primarily an attempt to achieve an optical balance based on the use of a selected and properly arranged group of materials. The interiors were to be characterized by non-obviousness and the desire to constantly explore them.
- Project Duration
- The residence is located in Poznan, Poland. The design work lasted 12 months
- Operation Flow
- Designing affects the shaping of emotions, creates spatial images of the environment for spending time. The project is not only a response to existential needs, but a plan that was supposed to stand the test of time and intrigue the residents even after returning from attractive holidays, exceptional concerts or places that could make an original impression. By freely opening and closing the glass openings, you can control the symbiosis of architecture and the outside.
- Research
- Design activities balanced around the boundaries set by superior ideas such as safety, comfort, naturalness, perfection. They were accompanied by the limits of emotions expressed by deriving happiness from passion in the form of contemplation of music, painting, graphics and love of cooking. Assigning spatial and material features to the above elements was a constant setting of boundaries and balancing between them.
- Inspiration
- The inspiration was conversations with the owners about their passions, experience and plans. They translated into spatial solutions based on analyzes of the presence of light in the interiors, non-accidental combinations of materials, proportions or control of sound propagation. The apparent boundaries set in this way were to emphasize the functions and specific pace of life of the household members. Finally, the main ideas became nature, freedom, comfort, penetration, freshness.

Design Interview about Piren Residential House
The main ideas became nature, freedom, comfort, penetration, freshness.
I was particularly keen to achieve consistency between the design brief and the end result.
I think this award and the process of promoting it will change the perception of my projects' presence in electronic media. I intend to promote myself more than I have done so far.
The project lasted 12 months.
The project was commissioned by individual clients.
My assignments to date have consisted of referrals of my services from satisfied clients.

I have carried out most of my work for individual clients in the Wielkopolska region. Work for business clients is located in most major Polish cities.
My clients were private investors.
I think this project has the potential to survive fads and trends. The space has a margin which is successively filled with paintings, sculptures or prints consciously acquired by the owners.
I mark my projects with a combination of the investors' initials.
I used a sketching method, drafting with Autodesk software, 3D visualisation and prototyping of detail elements and equipment.
I see this project as a compilation of individual design decisions, the implementation of which was a challenge for me as well as the contractors and craftsmen.
The realisation was handled by professionals from the fields of engineering, construction, carpentry, lighting technology and KNX integration.
I believe that the formal elements of technology transfer were one of the pretexts for the individual design of the architecture so that the engineering side was as concealed as possible. Building lighting scenes, monitoring air circulation and sunlight through integration have become very useful and practical in this building.
I tried to pay attention to the psychophysiological aspects of seeing space. In analysing the function of this residence, I drew on studies related to the characteristics of lighting, air exchange and the maintenance of adequate humidity and temperature.
The challenge is first and foremost an attempt at self-policing based on trying to answer a design question using inspiration and experience.
Despite many completed projects, this one is my first submission to the competition. I decided to make a name for myself in international company and have my work assessed by an objective jury.
This project has shown that challenges that reach beyond standard studies are able to motivate all actors in the process to work together towards innovative solutions.
