About Woyun Platform Public Building

The Woyun Platform is the entrance exhibition center of the Giant Panda National Park, taking the geological features of local bamboo forests, mists, and glacier debris as architectural imageries. The bamboo forest on the ground floor is used as a rural living room, which is a feedback to the surrounding villages; the suspended mists in the middle is used as a cultural display space; the debris on the top is used as a leisure space.

Archermit's Woyun Platform Public Building emerges as a distinguished exemplar of contemporary architectural practice that seeks meaningful dialogue between built form and natural landscape, positioning itself within traditions that privilege environmental responsiveness and contextual sensitivity over autonomous formal gesture. The design demonstrates remarkable compositional sophistication through its orchestration of sweeping horizontal planes that appear to float above the terrain, their curved profiles echoing the undulating mountain silhouettes visible in the atmospheric distance while simultaneously asserting a distinctly contemporary architectural vocabulary of precision and restraint. The technical achievement evident in the cantilevered roof structures, extending dramatically without apparent support to create generous covered outdoor spaces, speaks to engineering mastery placed in service of experiential generosity, offering occupants elevated vantage points from which to contemplate the surrounding natural beauty. The chromatic strategy of unified white surfaces against the blue-gray atmospheric envelope creates a condition of luminous presence, the building registering as a bright horizon line that mediates between earth and sky rather than imposing upon the landscape. Particularly noteworthy is the treatment of the lower level colonnade, where slender columns establish a permeable threshold between interior and exterior, their rhythmic spacing creating visual music that animates the facade while the perforated concrete plane above them introduces subtle pattern that catches light and shadow throughout the day. The integration of living elements including young bamboo and established trees demonstrates commitment to biophilic principles, acknowledging that architecture achieves its fullest meaning when engaged with natural systems and seasonal cycles. This work invites contemplation of how contemporary building might honor place while advancing formal innovation, suggesting that meaningful architecture emerges through attentive listening to site, climate, and cultural aspiration.

Unique Properties
The Woyun Platform is the entrance exhibition center of the Giant Panda National Park, taking the geological features of local bamboo forests, mists, and glacier debris as architectural imageries. The "bamboo forest" on the ground floor is used as a rural living room, which is a feedback to the surrounding villages; the suspended "mists" in the middle is used as a cultural display space; the "debris" on the top is used as a leisure space.

Production Technology
In order to complete the stars of the image, we studied on the lights, abandon the expensive, complicated process and custom bulb hoisting, and chose the side wash wall lamp, through setting a few key nodes in the LED project-light lamp, control the beam Angle, make the light in the perforated plate hole wall form light reflex, eventually form a vast sky image on the outside of aluminum plate.
Design Challenge
At night, the dome light turns the white and soft cloud platform into a dreamy star universe. Therefore, we have carried out innovative and exploratory practice in the following six points.

1.The circular curve is divided into 120 straight lines, and the building shell is divided into 2343 single surface, which reduces the wall thickness and construction cost of aluminum single plate without affecting the building effect;

2.Combined with the actual situation of local manufacturers, the aluminum veneer is split into a similar size within a specific range, and the smaller layout is combined to reduce the cost and uncontrollable risk (aluminum veneer production accuracy, construction and installation difficulty, etc.);

3.The lighting device is installed inside the cavity at the back of the aluminum veneer to restore the atmosphere of the star universe through the change of the color of the light and the different combination of holes on the aluminum veneer;

4.The overall effect is created. The meteor image created by the main entrance, the star image created by the overhead sunken square and the starry sky form a distinct relative relationship of "light and dark", which increases the visual depth of the building, and also endows the coordination and balance between the visible and hidden, interior and exterior of the three nodes.
Project Duration
Completion Date: September 2021 Project Address: Longmenshan Town, Pengzhou city, Sichuan Province
Operation Flow
The white 'bamboo forest' at the bottom is the foundation of the 'clouds', and the people gathered under the clouds are the foundation of the building. At night the dome beneath the 'clouds' is poetically lit by stars, and beneath them is a vivid scene of village life. The two "floating boulders" above the "clouds" and the landscape reflected in the water create a unique landscape painting. The activities of the villagers bring the most local flavour to “Woyuntai”, where rural life and contemporary art merge to form a small world of shared community culture. Here, where there are mountains and water above the clouds, and passion for life under the clouds.
Inspiration
Pengzhou has advantaged mountain water resources. Under the development framework of Chengdu's "park City", the development concept of "three-dimensional landscape park city" is put forward, trying to create a three-dimensional landscape picture park city of "city by the landscape and people in the park". The design of "Wanyuntai" integrates the core landscape elements of Pengzhou, hoping to make people feel the charm of pengzhou's natural landscape within this limited space.

Design Interview about Woyun Platform Public Building

Because the project is surrounded by the National Giant Panda Forest Park, pandas and their living environment are the design inspiration. Through our own research on the methodology of imagery architecture, we present a sci-fi rural architecture.

The project aims to become a landmark building in this area, with pandas and local landscape elements as its design imagery. The main functional space has been elevated, and the elevated floor serves as an area for surrounding people's activities, improving the utilization rate of the site.

We have informed the owners and local government of the award news, and they will promote it on different media platforms. We will also continue to follow up on the usage of subsequent projects to improve our future designs.

Almost at the moment of seeing the venue, I had a rough idea, and then visited the venue multiple times, experiencing the lighting, surrounding nature, and people's activities from morning to night. Later, I added the idea of starry sky, and the plan was completed in about a month.

This is a design commission. The local area is an important entrance to the Giant Panda National Forest Park and also the main entrance to more than ten villages. We need to balance the display of pandas and their living environment, as well as the living habits of the local people, and even involve this project in their lives.

The project has been completed and the owner and local government have started using it.

Before each design, we would first visit the project site and spend a lot of time studying the connection between local nature, culture, and project functions, before deciding whether to accept the project design commission. What attracts us to this project is the complexity of the natural environment, functions, surrounding population, and project objectives.

Our designs all come from nature, so perhaps nature is the teacher of our project.

We hope to make some breakthroughs in this place, which are related to the local culture but not to the local architecture. There are too many newly built rural buildings in China that are related to the local residential architectural style, but there is no in-depth study of the site and what kind of architectural form the local area needs.

The site is located between the magnificent landscape of Longmen Mountain, we took the nature of Longmen Mountain as the inspiration for the design and came up with the architectural image of “Woyun”. It means lying high in the cloud and mist, and means “returning to seclusion”. “Woyun Platform” expresses Archermit thoughts and explorations on “people's inner longing to return to nature, nature and tradition”.

We applied our own methodology of imagery architecture to design this project.

We have a professional lighting team and construction team who have contracted with us.

Realized the starry sky effect of building overhead floors.

We have used many traditional materials to combine lighting to form new methods, such as the starry sky effect of the overhead layer. Initially, we wanted to form it through direct shooting of the spotlight, but the effect was poor. Later, we found that the effect was related to the thickness of the punching plate and the size of the hole. Therefore, we conducted multiple sample tests with the manufacturer and ultimately chose the current presentation method.

Different user groups need relatively independent spaces in the same site and building, but we do not want to present this space solely through isolation. Therefore, we integrated elements of local mountains and water into the building, and water is connected and circulated from top to bottom in the building. This issue is something we spent a lot of time pondering.

We want to provide a method for similar projects around the world, where rural architecture not only needs to meet the needs of homeowners, but also needs to be connected to the lives of local people. It can not only create a style similar to local architecture, but also excel in blending with a larger environment.

We are improving the Imagery Architecture Theory guided by Eastern thinking logic, which is a methodology on architectural design practices and aesthetics. This project is undoubtedly an important one that strengthens our research direction.
