About Zen Building Interior Design Project

Zen Building is an interior design project based in Curitiba, Brazil. It is an interior project for common areas of a building in Curitiba, Brazil. The building is located on the edge of the city's most famous park. The project concept was inspired by its surroundings and natural beauty. There are more than 1000 square meters with Brazilian architecture inspired by Japanese and Scandinavian features. Natural materials, local design cues and natural light are the main design gestures.

Drawing upon centuries-old traditions of timber construction while expressing distinctly contemporary spatial values, this interior composition from Giuliano Marchiorato's Zen Building Interior Design Project demonstrates exceptional sensitivity to material presence and atmospheric cultivation. The double-height living volume establishes its character immediately through the expansive wooden lattice ceiling, an element that suggests affinities with traditional kumiko woodworking and temple architecture yet achieves fresh relevance through its generous scale and warm honey coloration. This grid structure accomplishes multiple functions simultaneously: it provides architectural rhythm, modulates natural and artificial light through its interstitial shadows, and creates a protective canopy that psychologically lowers the perceived ceiling height to human scale despite the soaring volume. The furniture arrangement below exhibits careful curatorial consideration, positioning a generously curved sofa in textured neutral upholstery as the primary seating element while complementary sculptural armchairs in deep verdant tones introduce chromatic vitality without disrupting the overall tonal restraint. The travertine fireplace surround, with its horizontal emphasis and subtle backlighting, anchors the far wall while suggesting warmth both literal and metaphorical through the candle flames visible within. Particular accomplishment appears in the lighting strategy, where the iconic spherical pendant lamp becomes a luminous moon-like presence, its translucent materiality and horizontal banding creating gentle visual rhythm that echoes the ceiling grid above. The designer seems to explore themes of shelter, contemplation, and the dialogue between natural materials and refined geometry. Viewers might consider how this space invites pause and presence, encouraging meditation upon the sensory pleasures of light filtering through structure and the tactile richness of honest materials thoughtfully assembled.
