About The Clouds Residential House

The Clouds is a residential apartment interior of 90 square meters in Taipei, Taiwan. The plan holds three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom and a separate toilet. Curved lines run through the ceiling and the fitted furniture, softening the boundaries between the areas. The living room ceiling was shaped by hand at a slight angle to conceal beams of different heights. A custom foyer protects privacy and leads to an open storage area and a curved wine cabinet. Light from the large windows keeps the shared spaces calm and open.

Carina Lin's residential design engages the contemporary discourse surrounding biomorphic architecture and parametric residential environments, positioning this interior within broader explorations of how digital design methodologies and fabrication technologies enable fluid, organic spatial experiences that challenge conventional orthogonal domesticity while maintaining livable functionality and serene inhabitation. The compositional achievement here resides substantially in the sculptural ceiling treatment, wherein flowing curvilinear forms dissolve the typical planar containment of domestic interiors, transforming what would conventionally serve as neutral overhead surface into a dynamic three-dimensional landscape of undulating volumes that evoke natural phenomena such as cloud formations, water erosion patterns, or organic cellular growth, thereby introducing a sense of movement, softness, and temporal flux into the architectural shell. The chromatic restraint exercised throughout demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how monochromatic minimalism can amplify spatial and formal complexity, the near-exclusive reliance on white and off-white tones allowing the eye to register subtle shadows, gentle curves, and dimensional depth that might be obscured or fragmented by chromatic variety, while the selective deployment of warm embedded lighting along biomorphic edges introduces temporal variation as natural daylight cycles interact with artificial illumination to shift the tonal temperature and atmospheric character across hours and seasons. The central cylindrical storage element with its concentric circular relief ornamentation functions as both pragmatic furnishing and sculptural anchor, the low-relief geometric pattern providing haptic visual interest and referencing traditions of ornamental surface treatment while the volume's cylindrical form echoes the organic curvilinearity governing the ceiling, walls, and thresholds, thereby establishing formal continuity across scales from macro spatial envelope to individual furniture piece. Technical execution appears refined and precise, the seamless integration of lighting, the flawless surface finishes, the smooth transitions between curved and planar elements, and the apparent structural resolution of flowing ceiling forms all suggesting substantial design development, collaboration between architect, interior designer, lighting designer, and fabricator, and careful material specification to achieve the atmospheric luminosity and spatial fluidity evident throughout. This residential environment seems to explore threshold conditions between sculpture and shelter, between minimalist restraint and organic exuberance, between futuristic formal vocabularies and timeless domestic comfort, offering inhabitants a dwelling space that feels simultaneously serene and stimulating, restrained and spatially generous, precisely controlled and naturally flowing, suggesting that contemporary residential design can embrace architectural ambition and sculptural innovation while still providing nurturing environments for everyday life, quiet contemplation, and domestic ritual. One might consider how inhabiting such a space over time shapes daily experience, whether the flowing forms and luminous atmosphere encourage particular rhythms of movement, rest, and social interaction, and how this design strategy negotiates the perennial tension between architecture as autonomous artistic expression and architecture as responsive container for human dwelling.

Unique Properties
The Clouds is a residential condo with 90 square meters. The interior design use of curved lines, resembling contours shaped by natural stacking, blurs the boundaries of the environment. Through the gentle interplay of light and shadow pouring in from the expansive windows, it not only defines a warm and pure ambience but also radiates a myriad of warm hues from within.
Dimensions & Packaging
In the space of 90 square meters with 3 bedrooms, 1 living room, 1 kitchen, 1 bathroom and 1 toilet.

Production Technology
In the living room, the ceiling was made slightly angled to embellish varying-height beams, with softly contoured lines melding into the ceiling, as if gazing out at the sky. These elements blend harmoniously with the catwalks and meandering platforms to infuse the space with diversity and depth. Meanwhile, the private quarters exude simplicity and warmth, enveloping the routines of daily life with the natural, unassuming texture of the paint. Therefore, a sense of tranquility is instilled in the atmosphere.
Design Challenge
The irregular shape ceiling in the living room is the hardest prat of this design. The ceiling ,which was all handmade by carpenter, was made slightly angled to embellish varying-height beams.
Project Duration
The project was finished in March 2023 in Taipei, Taiwan.
Operation Flow
Upon entering, privacy is maintained with a customized foyer, where an open storage area seamlessly connects with a curved wine cabinet leading to the TV wall, creating a sense of spatial continuity. Sunlight floods into every nook of the communal space to establish fluid visual connections between different areas, enhancing the perception of spaciousness.
Research
In this condo, designer designed lots of curves. Color is minimalist. Less is more.
Inspiration
The residential condo design is inspired by the clouds, strips away its elaborate embellishments, merging clear color palettes with organic shapes to showcase the most primal and graceful forms. Stepping into this space, it seamlessly blends static and dynamic elements to leave a profound sense of energy.
