About Dino Bowl

Dino is a feeding bowl for cats. The bowl is made from a single piece of high temperature fired ceramic and is supplied with a stir stick. The form is inspired by the neck of a dinosaur, and the stir stick acts as the spine, giving the product a memorable appearance. The tilted rim allows cats to eat in a more comfortable posture. The stir stick helps mix canned food and always returns to the correct orientation, at whatever angle the stick is inserted into the hole at the back. Storing the stick in the bowl keeps the two parts together.

Liang Xueyong's Dino Bowl represents a thoughtful contribution to contemporary pet care design, situating functional animal feeding vessels within a visual vocabulary that bridges practical utility and playful narrative enrichment, the work emerges from design traditions that recognize domestic animal care products as opportunities for both ergonomic innovation and emotional connection, extending a lineage of object design that honors the human-animal bond through considered formal articulation and character-driven aesthetic choices, the compositional achievement here manifests in the elegant resolution of multiple design imperatives, each bowl demonstrates structural clarity through its wide-mouth circular opening that tapers into a stable truncated conical base, this geometry serves practical feeding requirements while exhibiting formal sophistication through its pure geometric derivation and proportional balance, the glossy material finish suggests durable polymer construction amenable to repeated cleaning and daily use, while the high-gloss surface treatment elevates perceived quality and communicates cleanliness as integral to the design ethos, the chromatic strategy employs a primary palette of golden yellow, pure white, and sky blue that reads as optimistic, accessible, and non-threatening, these color choices evoke associations with childhood, play, and joy while maintaining sufficient restraint to integrate harmoniously within diverse domestic environments, the central white bowl distinguishes itself through the sculptural dinosaur crest that transforms a simple feeding vessel into a character-driven object inviting imaginative engagement, this embellishment rendered in matte black with vibrant red and yellow accent details introduces visual complexity and narrative dimension without compromising functional integrity, the serrated ridgeline silhouette reads immediately as prehistoric reference while maintaining sufficient abstraction to function as pure formal embellishment, the designer demonstrates facility in balancing whimsy with utility, ensuring that decorative elements enhance rather than obstruct the primary feeding function, the work invites consideration of how everyday utilitarian objects might transcend mere function through thoughtful formal articulation, how design choices can honor the dignity of animal care while celebrating the delight and companionship animals bring to human life, the triadic presentation suggests a product family offering chromatic choice while maintaining design coherence, acknowledging that pet care products exist within domestic spaces where aesthetic integration matters alongside practical performance, one might contemplate how such objects participate in the ritual dimensions of daily animal care, transforming routine feeding into moments of connection and joy, how does design thoughtfulness in functional objects reflect and reinforce the care relationships they serve.

Unique Properties
The Decopark Dino Bowl consists of a one-piece, high-temperature fired ceramic bowl and a stir stick. The holistic design is inspired by dinosaur neck shape, like the stir stick is designed as the dinosaur's spine, making the visual image more memorable. The tilt angle of the bowl allows cats to eat more comfortably. The attached stir stick is designed to assist with mixing and it will always return to the correct orientation no matter which angle it is inserted at.

Production Technology
Aiming to make a cute and fun bowl, the lines are well designed to ensure the holistic shape is suitable for the ceramic firing process and make the stir stick and the bowl maintain harmony and unity in their forms. To reduce the likelihood of deformation of the bowl’s slanted rim during firing, we made the rim structure double layer. Simultaneously, we keep adjusting the shape of the stir stick and its insertion hole at the back of the bowl to ensure a better fit between them and the bowl.
Design Challenge
The biggest creative challenge was integrating the innovation of product shape and function. We found that users need both a bowl and a stir stick when feeding their cats, but a single stir stick would be easily lost. Therefore, we were facing the challenge of combining them into one unit for convenient storage. Simultaneously, we were also wondering how to make the overall appearance interesting to attract users and provide better user experience.
Project Duration
The project started in October 2023 in Hangzhou, and was exhibited in The ONE Pet Show in April 2024.
Operation Flow
When users feed their cats, the stir stick at the back of the bowl helps to mix the cat's food, particularly canned food. Afterward, the stir stick can be easily wiped clean and placed back into the insertion hole at the rear of the bowl for convenient storage. It is also worth noting that the slanted rim design of the cat bowl ensures a more comfortable eating posture for cats.
Research
Research shows that most users thought pet ceramic bowl product on the market are homogeneous, failing to consider the actual needs of users and cats. Therefore, our design focus on practicality and ease of use. We noticed that when feeding canned cat food, a stir stick is needed to mix it, yet there are few bowl products equipped with a stir stick. Additionally, most users indicated that they are easily attracted to product shapes. Hence, we incorporated interesting ideas into the design.
Inspiration
Our design begins with thinking about the relationship between the bowl and cats, and how owners use it. We have discussed specifically on aspects such as function, visual expression and materials. The Dino Bowl is primarily made of ceramics. Its basic shape is cylindrical, bent in the middle to create the slanted surface of the feeding bowl, giving it the appearance of a dinosaur. The stir stick on the back serves as the dinosaur's spine, integrating functionality and aesthetics of the product.
