About Innova Coffe Shop

Innova is a coffee shop interior located in Istanbul, Turkey. The design combines coffee service with music and reading areas. Illuminated mirrors on the ceiling and walls increase the perception of depth, and wall paintings were created specially for the space. The bar is made of marble and placed at the back to guide customers through the interior. The seating areas near the entrance use fabric and wood. A wooden bookshelf faces a raised working area. Green, brown and gray tones support a calm and comfortable atmosphere.

Harun Ayaydın's Innova Coffe Shop engages the evolving discourse surrounding contemporary commercial hospitality design, positioning itself within traditions that understand retail environments as experiential narratives rather than purely transactional spaces, the work demonstrating sophisticated integration of material authenticity, spatial generosity, and biophilic principles that characterize progressive commercial interior architecture in the early twenty-first century. The design achieves notable compositional sophistication through its bold ceiling intervention, where large-scale circular mirrored cutouts punctuate the white overhead plane, these dramatic oculi functioning simultaneously as visual punctuation, spatial expansion through reflection, and geometric counterpoint to the room's prevailing orthogonal order, the staggered arrangement of these elliptical voids creating dynamic rhythm that draws attention upward and transforms what might otherwise remain unnoticed infrastructure into activated architectural canvas, the mirrored surfaces doubling perceived volume and introducing playful visual complexity through fragmented reflections. The material palette demonstrates disciplined curation, anchoring the environment in warm neutrals—creamy whites, soft beiges, pale greys—that provide calming backdrop while allowing carefully selected accent elements to achieve maximum impact, the rich medium-toned wood veneer cladding structural columns and shelving systems introduces organic warmth and tactile authenticity, the visible grain patterns and natural color variation offering biophilic connection and material honesty that counters the abstraction of retail commerce with grounded physical presence. Particularly accomplished passages include the integration of living greenery cascading down wood-clad columns, this simple yet effective biophilic gesture softening architectural geometry with natural form while improving air quality and psychological comfort, the verdant foliage functioning as both aesthetic enhancement and wellness intervention, embodying design philosophies that recognize human affinity for natural elements within built environments. The service counter demonstrates refined material coordination, pairing luxurious pale stone surfaces suggesting marble or high-end engineered quartz with warm wood ribbed paneling that introduces textural rhythm and prevents visual monotony, the material juxtaposition balancing cool mineral elegance with warm organic tactility, the composition suggesting quality and care in execution. The furniture selection reveals thoughtful attention to visual weight and stylistic coherence, the black Windsor-style chairs with their traditional spindle-back silhouette updated through contemporary matte finish provide comfortable seating while maintaining visual transparency through open construction, their vertical emphasis echoing the columnar architecture and introducing human-scaled rhythm, paired with slender circular tables that minimize footprint while maximizing utility. The glossy navy blue vintage-style chair positioned in the right zone functions as sculptural accent, its voluptuous organic form and saturated chromatic presence offering bold counterpoint to the room's prevailing neutrality and rectilinearity, suggesting that Ayaydın understands the value of strategic surprise within otherwise disciplined compositions, the piece elevating functional seating into conversation-starting installation. The lighting design employs layered strategy combining ambient downlighting from recessed cubic fixtures, accent illumination from integrated LED strips beneath retail shelving, and amplified luminosity through mirrored ceiling surfaces, the overall effect being warm, even, and welcoming without harsh shadows or glare, approximating natural daylight quality that supports both commercial function and human comfort. The spatial planning achieves generous openness despite accommodating dense functional programming, circulation paths flowing freely between seating zones, service counter, and retail displays, sightlines penetrating through the volume unobstructed, the composition demonstrating understanding that commercial hospitality succeeds through invitation rather than compression, through transparency rather than concealment. Thematically, the work explores the contemporary café as third place—neither home nor workplace but essential social infrastructure supporting community connection, individual respite, and daily ritual, the design's approachable sophistication suggesting democratic accessibility, spaces refined enough to feel special yet comfortable enough for regular habitation, this balance between elevation and ease characterizes successful contemporary hospitality design that serves diverse populations without exclusionary gestures. The seasonal holiday decoration including the decorated evergreen tree and wrapped gifts introduces temporal specificity and celebratory warmth, acknowledging the café's role in marking communal celebrations and annual rhythms, the festive installation suggesting that the space participates in cultural life beyond mere commerce. One might observe how this environment negotiates the tension between operational efficiency required by commercial imperatives and experiential richness desired by human users, the design proposing that these need not conflict, that transparency of process, quality of materials, generosity of space, and attention to sensory comfort can coexist with functional performance, inviting viewers to consider how thoughtfully designed commercial environments might elevate everyday experiences and contribute to urban quality of life, how the ordinary transaction of purchasing coffee might be enriched through spatial grace, material authenticity, and design intelligence that honors both practical necessity and human dignity.

Unique Properties
What distinguishes Innova Cafe from other cafes is the depth perception of the illuminated mirrors on the ceiling and walls and the wall paintings specially designed for the space on the walls. The main concept of the cafe is to have good music and reading areas accompanied by coffee.
Dimensions & Packaging
In order to preserve the perception of space, the seating areas on the right and left of the entrance were used for a long time. A working area with a high entrance was built in the section close to the middle parameter bar, and a wooden bookshelf was positioned opposite it. With accurate rotational displays of exchange locations, customers are asked to experience the space in a comfortable and calm manner.

Production Technology
To define the space, the existing dividing walls were removed and new walls were manufactured. Bar area positioning is placed at the back to gather customers into the right area. Produced using marble material, the bar has a cabinet and presentation area suitable for the design. The seating areas used at the entrance of the venue were chosen from fabric and wood materials. Convenience and comfort are prioritized in the general ambiance.
Design Challenge
When the design started, the most important detail was that people would enter a spacious and calm environment. In this process, this issue was used in the selection of materials and equipment preferences. The use of plants and wooden details in the area, as well as seating areas with fabric materials to ensure comfort, were considered.
Project Duration
Istanbul / Sancaktepe design started in October 2023. It was held in Istanbul on February 18, 2024.
Operation Flow
3 wave coffee shop with innovative structure. Good coffee, good music and a nice venue.
Research
In the meeting we held with the company owners for the cafe shop design, we detailed the main subject of the design, based on the idea of a head that can be read as a book. We resorted to using murals, mirrors, wood and marble. We calculated the frequency of use of the cafe and realized that the floor material should be epoxy with a wood and concrete appearance, and we started our design with these notes.
Inspiration
We thought that cafes should also undergo transformation in these periods when our habits of going out change due to the pandemic conditions that we are trying to leave behind in the world and in Turkey, and this detail allowed us to create the outlines of the İnnova brand. We wanted to create a place where you can forget about the tiredness and other things experienced during the day with green, brown and gray tones.
