About Arc Radiance Residential Apartment
Arc Radiance is a residential apartment interior design of 93 square meters. The entryway includes a multi-functional cabinet that combines a shoe cabinet, a storage platform, a laundry unit and a seat. The entryway floor is finished in terrazzo and set 5 centimeters lower to form a dust collecting area. Curved panels and cylindrical grille panels extend the television wall toward the entrance, widening the view and softening three large ceiling beams. Wood materials, pale milk tones, recessed lamps and linear lamps create warm indirect lighting.
Bo Yan Chen's Arc Radiance Residential Apartment emerges from and contributes to contemporary residential interior design discourse that privileges material authenticity, tectonic clarity, and light as architectural material rather than mere functional necessity, positioning this living space within aesthetic traditions that trace through Japanese spatial philosophy emphasizing ma or meaningful void, Scandinavian design movements celebrating natural materials and hygge or cultivated coziness, and biophilic design principles recognizing human psychological and physiological benefits derived from connection to natural forms and materials even within built environments. The compositional achievement here resides in the sophisticated orchestration of asymmetrical balance that prevents the large media display from dominating through visual weight alone by deploying the dramatically backlit curved portal element as sculptural counterbalance, this organic form ascending the wall plane introduces vertical dynamism that prevents the horizontal emphasis of the entertainment console, floating cabinetry, and low-profile furnishings from creating static repose, the curve's luminous presence functioning simultaneously as architectural feature, light source, and aesthetic focal point that rewards sustained contemplation through its formal elegance and material refinement. The chromatic accomplishment demonstrates considerable sophistication through the deployment of a carefully calibrated analogous palette where warm earth tones ranging from pale cream through mid-tone taupe to rich wood grain establish chromatic continuity that unifies disparate architectural and furnishing elements while maintaining sufficient value contrast to prevent visual monotony, the consistent warm color temperature throughout creates atmospheric coherence suggesting the golden quality of late afternoon light or the intimate warmth of evening illumination, while the cool blue-white glow emanating from the media screen provides calculated chromatic accent that enlivens the composition without disrupting overall tonal harmony. Technical facility manifests in the integration of multiple lighting strategies into a cohesive luminous environment: the recessed linear cove lighting that traces ceiling perimeters creates indirect wash that visually elevates the ceiling plane while establishing soft ambient glow, the internally illuminated curved wall element functions as architectural light sculpture that defines spatial character through luminous presence rather than material mass alone, and the discrete integration of functional task lighting within cabinetry demonstrates technical resolution that prioritizes visual clarity over technological display, these layered illumination strategies working in concert to create atmospheric depth and temporal adaptability as natural daylight cycles through the space. The work seems to explore themes of domestic sanctuary and restoration, proposing through its formal language that contemporary residential environments might serve as counterpoints to external stimulation and sensory overload, the restrained material palette and generous spatial proportions suggesting an aesthetic philosophy that locates luxury not in ornamental excess but in material quality, spatial generosity, and atmospheric refinement, the organic curved element introduces biophilic resonance that connects inhabitants to natural forms and phenomena even within this refined constructed environment. The inclusion of delicate branching foliage arranged with sculptural intention upon the oval coffee table operates iconographically within traditions of bringing natural elements into domestic interiors for both aesthetic appreciation and symbolic connection to seasonal cycles and living systems, this gesture balancing the geometric precision of architectural elements with organic irregularity that humanizes the composition and prevents the space from reading as austere or uninhabitable despite its refined restraint. One might observe how this interior environment invites contemplation of the relationships between architecture and wellbeing, between material environments and psychological states, between designed restraint and experiential richness, asking viewers to consider whether domestic spaces achieve their highest purpose through visual stimulation and decorative abundance or through the opposite qualities of serene simplicity, material authenticity, and carefully calibrated sensory experience that supports rather than demands attention, the composition suggesting that true residential luxury might reside in spatial and atmospheric qualities that foster restoration, contemplation, and quiet domestic rituals rather than in demonstrative display of acquisition or stylistic virtuosity.

- Production Technology
- Because the distance between the TV wall and the background wall of the sofa is only about 3 meters, if the volume of the TV wall is too small, the effect of enlarging the space is not good. Thus, the design method of parallel expansion is adopted to extend the modeling wall to the entryway area by combining the curved plate and the cylindrical grating panel, so that the vision is extended to the left and right, and the problem of the limited distance is ignored, to indirectly play the expansion effect.
- Design Challenge
- An obvious shortcoming in this case is that there are three huge roof beams across the ceiling, which creates pressure on the space. To solve this problem, first of all, the beam extending from the TV wall to the entryway, is not deliberately coated, but uses the height difference method to modify, to achieve the effect of blur and avoid compression of the height of living area, and then with the TV wall to create curved lines, extend the left and right vision, and weaken the presence of the beam.
- Project Duration
- The project started in February 2024 finished in June 2024 in Taichung City .
- Operation Flow
- The children's room adopts the platform planning, in addition to convenient conversion to the wide bed that can accommodate up to four people, and also reserving a complete activity space with less furniture obstacles to facilitate parent-child communication and interaction. Aiming at the warm and sweet atmosphere expected by the house owners, we set the tone of the public area with pale milk color, and create uniform light and indirect lighting through the lighting design of embedded lamps and line lamps, highlighting the soft environment atmosphere.
- Research
- The complete entryway area, in addition to the beautiful storage, lighting assistance, and end-view wall shaping methods, outlines the elegant relaxed atmosphere of the entrance, and also keeps full functions. It not only meets the needs of entry storage, putting on and taking off shoes, hiding sweeping robot, and also improves the function of the dust falling area. The entryway floor is remolded, and the surface structure is excavated to the reinforced concrete (RC) layer, to create a space condition with "height difference". At the same time, the surface is changed to scratch-resistant and wear-resistant terrazzo, which is not easy to dust, and eventually forms a dust falling area with a height difference of 5cm, which is beautiful and has a better effect of preventing the dust entering the house.
- Inspiration
- In addition to the basic living function, "warm and sweet" is the space atmosphere expected by the owner. Therefore, on the basis of a large number of wood building materials and warm colors, the lighting design of embedded lamps, line lamps and other lighting, is used to create indirect lighting and uniform light for each area, forming a comfortable home atmosphere, and giving the space more changes.
