About Mirabilis Bar and Dusk Lounges and Bars

Mirabilis Bar and Dusk is an interior design project for a hilltop restaurant and bar set within the national park of Mount Faber. The space is divided into two focal sections. Dusk serves as the dining area, and The Mirabilis Bar serves as the lounge area. Both areas open toward seafront and city views. The project also includes an expanded professional kitchen and a members-only cigar room. The concept is drawn from Mirabilis Jalapa, a cluster of fragrant flowers that blooms in the afternoon, matching the opening hour of the venue.

Lau Chun Hoong's Mirabilis Bar and Dusk Lounges and Bars emerges as a remarkable synthesis of sculptural ambition and hospitality design, positioning itself within contemporary movements that seek to dissolve boundaries between art installation and functional architecture. The work participates in a broader discourse surrounding experiential design, where environments transcend mere utility to become immersive narratives capable of transporting visitors into realms of wonder and discovery. The commanding overhead installation, with its perforated metallic blooms suggesting both organic botanical forms and the precision of digital fabrication, demonstrates exceptional technical accomplishment in the integration of structural engineering, lighting design, and artistic vision. One observes a masterful manipulation of chromatic temperature, where cool blue illumination emanating from the sculptural canopy engages in productive dialogue with the warm amber glow of the bar zone below, creating a thermal gradient that guides the eye and establishes distinct atmospheric territories within a unified spatial composition. The incorporation of living greenery climbing vertical supports introduces biophilic principles that soften the technological spectacle above while grounding the space in natural reference. Thematic resonances suggest meditation on the relationship between human creativity and natural beauty, the artificial flowers perhaps evoking mythological gardens of wonder or the bioluminescent creatures of deep ocean realms brought to terrestrial celebration. The design invites consideration of how contemporary hospitality spaces might function as secular temples of communal gathering, places where the rituals of social connection unfold beneath canopies of imaginative splendor. What transformations of consciousness or social interaction might such environments enable, and how does the deliberate cultivation of wonder reshape our experience of shared space?

Unique Properties
Mount Faber Leisure tasked the design team to amplify the popularity of hilltop dining destination – Dusk Restaurant & Bar through the introduction adjective of ‘Iconic.’ Such initiation would come with a brand-new look and feel to the premise (with its stunning seafront and city view) for both the dining and cocktail experience. It is paramount to showcase an expanded professional kitchen with an elevated menu and develop an exclusive hilltop members-only Cigar Room.
Inspiration
We studied the space and innovatively carve from scratch 2 focal sections to spotlight dine and lounge - hence the birth of Dusk and The Mirabilis Bar. Leading from the project location nestled in the National Park of Mount Faber, our team took repeated nature study trips to bathe and identify the DNA of Mount Faber and discovering The Mirabilis Jalapa. The said species is a cluster of fragrant flowers that blooms in the afternoon (hence the four o’clock common name) and have flower also coincides with the opening time of the current restaurant & bar, which fitted perfectly.
