About Focus Modular Shower Brush
Focus is a modular shower brush designed for personal care during bathing. The handle of Focus works as a detachable container that holds body wash or shampoo, and it is squeezed to release the liquid during use. Four functional components cover different cleaning needs. Each component can be used alone for the neck or elbow, or joined with the handle to form a long brush that reaches the back and ankles. Handles with different products can be exchanged as skin condition or preferred scent changes. The body is made of recycled plastic with silicone and sponge bristles.
Yunsong Liu's Focus Modular Shower Brush represents a thoughtful contribution to the contemporary discourse surrounding personal care design, where functionality increasingly converges with aesthetic refinement to transform quotidian hygiene rituals into moments of considered well-being. The system demonstrates sophisticated understanding of modular design principles, offering users a customizable bathing experience through its array of interchangeable brush attachments, each engineered to address specific cleansing or massage requirements while maintaining visual coherence within the unified storage solution. The chromatic strategy employs a restrained warm neutral palette—soft rose-beige bodies accented by graduated metallic bands spanning silver through gold tones—that suggests both clinical cleanliness and domestic warmth, positioning the product within contemporary bathroom environments that favor organic minimalism over stark utilitarianism. Technical accomplishment manifests in the careful attention to surface differentiation: the fine silicone bristles of one attachment contrast purposefully with the smooth foam pad of another and the pronounced massage nodules of a third, each texture promising distinct tactile experiences while the unified material language maintains systematic coherence. The petal-form attachment introduces biomorphic softness that counterbalances the geometric precision of the cylindrical dispensers, suggesting the designer's sensitivity to the psychological dimensions of personal care—the desire for both efficiency and sensory pleasure within the bathing ritual. - Unique Properties
- Focus is a modular personal care tool that can be quickly removed and replaced. The part it holds is equipped with body wash, and users can choose the handle that suits them according to different skin conditions or personal preferences. Four different functional components to cope with bathing needs. In addition, users can assemble them into long handle brushes or use them alone to ensure that different body parts can be comfortably cleaned.

- The whole body of the shower brush is made of recycled plastic, and the bristles are made of silicone and sponge.
- Design Challenge
- Neither the long handle nor the handleless one can meet the cleaning needs of the bath. Therefore, the biggest challenge of Focus is modular design and how to convert the two forms of care tools quickly and at the same time can be combined with body wash. So we studied the structure of the vacuum bottle and transformed the holding part into a detachable container. In addition, the design of the shape is also difficult. Both to meet the overall integrity of the combination, but also to consider the beauty of each monomer after disassembly.
- Project Duration
- The project was launched in Beijing in April 2024 and completed in Beijing in June 2024.
- Operation Flow
- According to different parts of the body, People plug holding part of the hand into the Focus or pull it out to complete the brush length change. When the season affects the condition of the skin or you just want to try a new scent, all you need to do is change the handle with a different shower gel. When taking a bath, the user squeezes it to get its internal body wash or shampoo.
- Research
- We carried out a detailed analysis and found that the existing shower brush could not meet all the cleaning needs of users during bathing. In addition, we conducted an interview and learned that women like to try different scented body wash, and found that our skin needs corresponding care in different seasons. In order to obtain the body wash, we disassembled the vacuum dispensing bottle. After studying its structure, the principle was adjusted and realized by 3d printing.
- Inspiration
- Focus was inspired by the experience of bathing. While the long handle brush can reach the back or ankle in the shower, it is not convenient to clean the elbow or neck, and we have to prepare a shorter one. In addition, different seasons can make the skin condition change, people should take appropriate care. The existing body wash can not meet this variety of needs, because the volume is large, it takes a long time to be used up. Therefore, we wanted to design a modular personal care tool that can quickly change components for different situations.
