About NN Pharmaceutical Office Design

NN Pharmaceutical is an office interior design located in Sofia, Bulgaria. The workspace covers about 1500 square meters and is organized into five types of zones: focus work, team work, social interaction and knowledge exchange, collaboration and meetings, and a reception area. The zones alternate along the main circulation path, so staff can move easily between work modes. Wood, felt and textiles add warmth and absorb sound, while industrial elements of the building are kept. Natural light reaches the different areas, and a subtle color code marks their functions.

DA Architects's NN Pharmaceutical Office Design exemplifies the contemporary evolution of workplace environments toward spaces that prioritize human wellbeing alongside functional efficiency, reflecting broader cultural shifts in understanding how physical environments influence cognitive performance, emotional state, and collaborative dynamics. The design demonstrates sophisticated mastery of material palette restraint, employing natural oak timber as a unifying element that brings biophilic warmth while maintaining the clean lines associated with Nordic and contemporary minimalist traditions. The stepped seating arrangement suggests awareness of ancient gathering typologies, the amphitheater and agora, translated through contemporary design sensibilities into a flexible zone for informal meetings, presentations, or contemplative pause. Particularly accomplished is the ceiling treatment, where triangular acoustic baffles create visual interest while serving essential sound management functions, their angular geometry establishing dialogue with the orthogonal timber elements below. The chromatic strategy appears carefully calibrated, with coral, sage, and grey upholstery accents providing sufficient visual variety to animate the space without disrupting the overall sense of calm professionalism appropriate to pharmaceutical contexts. One observes how the designers have integrated biophilic elements through the planted grid shelving, introducing organic life forms that soften the architectural precision while potentially improving air quality and occupant wellbeing. The curved LED element visible in the corridor beyond introduces a contemporary gestural quality that suggests forward-thinking innovation, perhaps referencing the scientific research undertaken within such facilities. The work invites consideration of how contemporary workplace design might continue evolving to support human flourishing, prompting viewers to reflect on the relationship between spatial quality and professional fulfillment.

Production Technology
Our design approach combined research - driven methodologies with user - centric planning to ensure functionality and comfort. We applied workplace strategy analysis, focusing on flexibility, acoustics, and natural light distribution. Materials like wood, felt, and textiles enhanced warmth and sound absorption, while industrial elements preserved the building character. A balance of structured and organic forms, guided by movement flow, created an intuitive and adaptable workspace.
Design Challenge
The main challenge was transitioning employees from a traditional office to a flexible, open-plan space. Internally, we addressed resistance to change by integrating familiar, comfortable elements. Externally, we balanced building constraints, acoustic regulations, and ergonomic standards. Limited space required innovative zoning, while ensuring access to natural light. By blending Scandinavian minimalism with local work culture, we created a design that fosters both efficiency and well-being.
Project Duration
The project started in January 2024 and finished in December 2024. The office is located in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Operation Flow
A well-designed workspace must fulfill the needs of all employees, enabling them to exceed with their goals. To achieve this, we provided five basic spatial concepts - Focus Work, Team work, Social Interaction and Knowledge Exchange, Collaboration and Meetings, Reception Area. Distributed evenly throughout the office and alternating along the main circulation path, these zones allow employees to effortlessly transition between different work modes, share experiences and interact with colleagues.
Research
We conducted qualitative workplace research to optimize functionality and comfort. Using surveys, interviews, and spatial analysis, we gathered data on employee needs. Testing layouts through simulations refined zoning, acoustics, and ergonomics. Results highlighted the need for flexible spaces, natural light, and noise control. This research improved workplace efficiency, well-being, and collaboration, influencing modern office design with a focus on adaptability and user experience.
Inspiration
The inspiration behind the concept rests on the idea of creating special office with inviting fluid spaces, which also have a proper sense of human scale. The color palette and the materials are specially selected to enhance the home-like feeling. All representative areas aim for a sculptural and clean contemporary outlook. There is a subtle color coding implemented in the treatment of the different areas, in order to highlight additionally the difference in the functionality.
