About Jp Base Ningyocho Office Interiors
This project revitalizes a 30 year old office in Nihonbashi, transforming it into a modern workspace that blends tradition and innovation. The design, inspired by Parisian apartments, features a welcoming lounge and flexible office spaces, catering to the needs of entrepreneurs. By preserving the building's existing structure and incorporating sustainable practices, the project offers a unique and comfortable environment that reflects the rich history of the neighborhood.
GOOD PLACE's Jp Base Ningyocho Office Interiors exemplifies the contemporary workplace design movement that seeks to transcend purely functional programming and cultivate environments supporting both productivity and human well-being through thoughtful spatial choreography, material selection, and atmospheric calibration. This interior project demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how architectural transparency, natural light penetration, and carefully edited material palettes contribute to spatial quality that elevates daily work experience beyond mere operational efficiency. The design achieves notable compositional success through its layering of transparent and semi-transparent planes including the floor-to-ceiling exterior glazing providing urban connectivity and natural illumination, and the interior glass partitions that maintain visual openness while defining acoustic and functional boundaries, creating what might be termed a gradient of enclosure that offers both prospect and refuge within a compact footprint. The material vocabulary demonstrates refined restraint, anchoring the space in a foundation of warm neutrals including soft white wall surfaces, pale gray textured ceiling planes suggesting artisanal plaster application or specialty finish, and natural wood flooring installed in traditional chevron pattern that introduces both visual rhythm and tactile warmth underfoot, this restrained ground allowing selective chromatic and material accents to register with greater impact. The sculptural bubble chandelier suspended at right emerges as the singular gesture of decorative exuberance, its organic cluster of clear glass spheres cradled in warm metallic armature introducing curvilinear vitality and luminous sparkle that animates the otherwise rectilinear spatial order while suggesting design lineages extending from mid-century modernist lighting to contemporary biomorphic form vocabularies. Chromatic punctuation arrives through the teal upholstered dining chairs flanking the windowed work counter, their saturated blue-green hue providing cool chromatic relief against the warm neutral ground while establishing visual rhythm through repetition, and the potted greenery introducing organic irregularity and life. The elongated counter extending along the window wall serves multiple programmatic functions, operating simultaneously as individual work surface, as evidenced by the figure engaged with laptop, and as potential informal gathering or dining space, demonstrating the spatial flexibility increasingly valued in contemporary workplace planning where boundaries between focused work, collaborative exchange, and restorative pause become intentionally fluid. The design invites consideration of how contemporary professional environments might support diverse work modes and human needs through spatial generosity, material warmth, abundant natural light, and carefully calibrated visual interest, suggesting that productive work environments need not sacrifice aesthetic refinement or atmospheric serenity, but rather that these qualities may actively contribute to sustained creative engagement and occupational satisfaction.

- An increasing number of startups are partnering with large companies, driving demand for affordable workspace. We have designed an office environment specifically for these companies.
In the streets of Nihonbashi, you can find shops where exotic elements are integrated into the design. This is a place where tradition and innovation meet, and our thought was that a mixed interior with a nice gap, bringing Parisian elements into a Japanese office space, would appeal to startups. - Project Duration
- The project started in April 2024, with a design period of May-October 2024 and construction completed in December 2024.
The project site is located at 2-24-4 Nihonbashi Ningyocho, Tokyo, Japan - Operation Flow
- The lounge faces the street, opening to the city. The office space, conference room, and other spaces are connected smoothly without partitioning them.
Users can choose where they want to work, whether at the counter overlooking the shrine in front of them or on the sofas where they can relax and think, depending on their mood. The conference room's slit glass allows visual contact between areas, encouraging creative activity. - Research
- As startups collaborate more with large companies, the demand for flexible workspaces grows. Our design specifically caters to these emerging needs.

- With a rich history dating back to the Edo period, Nihonbashi has been a financial and commercial centre since the modern era. Our design honours the traditional Japanese townscape while incorporating modern elements inspired by Parisian apartments. This gave rise to the concept of the "Apartment Office". The office features a cosy lounge that encourages creativity and collaboration.
We envisioned a new type of workplace that could only thrive in Nihonbashi, where tradition meets innovation. - Image Credits
