About Thank You Bouquet Art Installation
The Thank You Bouquet is a site specific bamboo art installation composed of 180 handwoven floral forms. The flowers measure between 600 and 1200 millimetres in diameter and are made with traditional Taiwanese bamboo weaving techniques. High tensile bamboo strips are processed, steamed and woven into petals, while a modular framework provides strength and allows transport and reassembly. Visitors walk among the flowers as sunlight filters through the woven forms and casts shifting patterns of shadow. The work honours frontline workers and offers a quiet space for reflection.
Ching Ke Lin's Thank You Bouquet Art Installation represents a remarkable achievement in contemporary environmental sculpture, wherein the artist masterfully synthesizes traditional bamboo weaving techniques with modern spatial design principles to create an immersive field of oversized floral forms that transform an urban park setting into a contemplative sanctuary, the work demonstrating exceptional sensitivity to site-specific considerations as the organic curvature of each stem responds to and echoes the natural forms of the surrounding mature trees while the warm golden tones of the handcrafted bamboo blossoms create a luminous dialogue with natural daylight, the installation appears to explore themes of gratitude, abundance, and the relationship between human creativity and natural growth cycles through its evocation of a gift bouquet magnified to architectural scale, each individual sculptural element exhibits remarkable craftsmanship in its woven construction, the bamboo strips having been carefully bent and interlaced to suggest unfurling petals in various stages of bloom, the repetitive yet varied arrangement across the landscape creates a visual rhythm that invites ambulatory engagement, encouraging viewers to meander through the forest of forms and discover shifting perspectives and intimate encounters with individual sculptural elements, the work participates in a distinguished lineage of environmental installation practice while contributing fresh perspectives through its integration of traditional craft methods and contemporary spatial thinking, viewers might consider how this installation transforms quotidian park space into a threshold of wonder and how the collective gesture of hundreds of flower forms might speak to communal expressions of appreciation that transcend individual sentiment.

- Production Technology
- Each flower is crafted using traditional Taiwanese bamboo weaving techniques, combined with modular structural design principles. High tensile bamboo strips are processed, steamed, and handwoven into floral forms. The modular framework provides structural integrity as well as ease of transport and reassembly, allowing the installation to adapt to diverse exhibition environments without compromising its visual delicacy.
- Design Challenge
- The primary challenge was balancing visual delicacy with structural strength. The natural pliability of bamboo required precise tension control and integrated support systems to maintain form. Adapting traditional weaving techniques for large scale, weather-resistant outdoor installation demanded modular design strategies. Overcoming these technical and cultural challenges enabled a seamless integration of tradition and contemporary innovation.
- Project Duration
- The project began in 2021 in Taipei and was exhibited at Daan Forest Park Square in 2022 as part of the We Together charity festival organized by PX Mart.
- Operation Flow
- Visitors are invited to walk among the bamboo flowers, observing how sunlight filters through the woven forms to cast shifting patterns of light and shadow. The immersive arrangement encourages slow movement, quiet reflection, and emotional connection. The installation transforms the surrounding environment into a contemplative space of gratitude and unity, offering a gentle pause during uncertain times.
- Research
- This project examined the integration of traditional bamboo weaving with contemporary art to create a meaningful public installation. The objective was to convey themes of sustainability, cultural heritage, and emotional resonance. Research involved studying historical weaving methods, testing material strength, and developing structural prototypes. The findings highlight the potential of bamboo in modern design and its capacity to promote social healing through artistic expression.
- Inspiration
- Inspired by the resilience of nature and the symbolism of flowers as emblems of gratitude and renewal, The Thank You Bouquet reimagines the traditional craft of bamboo weaving. The installation transforms robust bamboo into delicate floral forms, evoking the enduring strength of human connection. Set within an urban context, it creates a contemplative space that honors frontline workers and encourages communal healing in times of crisis.
