About Dusitanon Residence
Baan Dusitanon is a four-story residence with a mezzanine level, located in a busy urban area. The building is enveloped by a facade of vertically aligned and gently twisted louvers made of high-strength aluminum. The louvers screen the interior from outside views while keeping the city visible from within. The facade also acts as a thermal buffer and frames planted areas between the screen and the walls. Each floor places semi-private living areas at the front and bedrooms at the rear. A double-height living space on the fourth floor opens toward the cityscape.
Phaithaya Banchakitikun's DUSITANON Residence emerges as a compelling meditation on the dialogue between organic form and urban dwelling, positioning itself within contemporary architectural discourse that seeks to reconcile parametric design possibilities with culturally resonant material expression and climatic responsiveness, the work demonstrates sophisticated understanding of facade as mediating membrane rather than mere enclosure, deploying closely-spaced vertical elements that filter light, modulate privacy, and create kinetic visual experience as observers move past or inhabitants move within, the terracotta-toned screening system references earthen building traditions while achieving formal complexity associated with computational design tools, suggesting a synthesis that honors craft sensibility while embracing contemporary fabrication possibilities, compositionally the structure achieves remarkable presence through its undulating roofline that refuses the typical flat-topped anonymity of urban residential construction, instead offering a sculptural silhouette that engages the sky as active compositional element, the chromatic warmth of the primary facade material creates thermal and psychological associations of comfort and welcome while maintaining sufficient visual weight to anchor the composition within its context of concrete and glass neighbors, interior illumination visible through strategic apertures suggests inhabitation and domestic life proceeding within, transforming the building at dusk into a glowing presence that contributes positively to streetscape experience, the mature vegetation flanking the structure demonstrates commitment to integrating biological systems with built form, their organic irregularity providing essential counterpoint to the rhythmic precision of the architectural screening, viewers might contemplate how this residence negotiates the competing demands of privacy and connection, shelter and expression, individual identity and urban citizenship, achieving resolution through formal strategies that create graduated thresholds between public street and private interior rather than absolute barriers

- Unique Properties
- Baan Dusitanon is a four-story residence with a mezzanine level, enveloped by a distinctive façade, located in the heart of the city. Given its urban setting, the surrounding environment is bustling with both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
The primary design objective was to create a sense of privacy for the residents while maintaining a seamless connection to the city. The building’s vertically aligned and subtly twisted façade panels act as a visual screen, shielding the interior from external views without creating a sense of confinement. This design allows residents to enjoy unobstructed views of the surroundings while ensuring privacy.
Beyond aesthetics, the façade serves as a thermal buffer, reducing direct heat exposure to the main structure. The space between the façade and the building itself accommodates greenery and landscaped areas, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality.
The interior layout is divided into two primary zones:
• The front section of each floor serves as a semi-private living area, fostering interaction and openness.
• The rear section is dedicated to private bedrooms, ensuring tranquility for the residents.
On the fourth floor, a double-height living space provides an expansive view of the cityscape, enhancing the sense of openness within the residence. - Dimensions & Packaging
- The façade is designed with privacy and functionality in mind, featuring vertically aligned angled louvers that effectively block external views. This vertical arrangement minimizes dust accumulation and water retention on the surface.
Constructed from high-strength aluminum, the louvers have an elliptical profile with tapered edges for durability and a sleek appearance. The supporting framework is discreetly hidden within the elliptical profiles, maintaining a clean and seamless exterior aesthetic - Tags
