About Tp 01 Embodied Smart Bipedal Robot

TP 01 is a bipedal humanoid robot designed for public spaces. Inspired by the culture of Chengdu, TP 01 has rounded contours, a large head and large feet, and a bright color palette that softens the industrial appearance. A micro expression recognition system, a 19 inch high definition display, and voice interaction allow the robot to perceive and answer emotions. Six degrees of freedom in the neck and biomimetic gaits support natural movement. A group control system enables synchronized dances, while modular interfaces allow themed decorative panels to be swapped quickly.

The TP 01 Embodied Smart Bipedal Robot emerges from contemporary explorations in humanoid robotics design, where engineering functionality intersects with intentional aesthetic language to create machines that communicate capability, approachability, and collaborative potential through carefully orchestrated formal decisions. This work represents a significant achievement in the evolving design vocabulary of embodied artificial intelligence, demonstrating how industrial design principles can transform purely functional requirements into objects that invite human engagement and emotional resonance. The compositional architecture reveals sophisticated attention to proportional relationships, with the vertical massing following classical harmonic ratios that create visual stability and anthropomorphic recognition without literal human mimicry, suggesting the designer's awareness of both ergonomic necessity and perceptual psychology. The chromatic strategy proves particularly accomplished, deploying a warm butter-yellow tonality across the primary structural elements that subverts conventional expectations of cold metallic machinery, instead proposing a friendly, accessible presence that might inhabit domestic or collaborative workspace environments without visual intimidation. This color choice operates on multiple semantic levels simultaneously: technologically, it suggests high-visibility safety considerations common in industrial contexts; affectively, it evokes optimism, energy, and approachability; and materially, it showcases contemporary polymer engineering capabilities that allow durable functional components to carry vibrant, sustained coloration. The integration of metallic gray accents throughout the joint mechanisms and actuator housings provides essential chromatic counterpoint, introducing visual rhythm through material alternation while signaling the precision mechanical systems that enable movement, the interplay between matte polymer shells and reflective metal components creating textural dialogue that rewards sustained viewing. The facial interface represents a masterclass in reductive communication design, where two simple vertical apertures against a black screen achieve remarkable expressive potential through geometric economy, this minimalist approach allowing viewers to project emotional states while maintaining technological clarity about the device's non-biological nature. The articulated limb structure demonstrates careful attention to kinetic legibility, with exposed joint mechanisms that honestly communicate range of motion and mechanical capability rather than concealing functionality behind continuous skin-like surfaces, this transparency suggesting design confidence and educational potential. The stable, slightly splayed stance communicates both physical balance and metaphorical openness, inviting approach and interaction rather than defensive or aggressive posturing. Surface detailing throughout reveals refinement in the integration of functional elements—ventilation, sensors, interface points—into the overall aesthetic schema without visual fragmentation, maintaining compositional unity while accommodating complex technical requirements. What proves particularly noteworthy in this design achievement is the successful navigation between anthropomorphic familiarity and mechanical honesty, creating a form that reads as collaborator rather than servant or threat, as capable tool rather than replacement, embodying through physical presence the emerging ethos of human-robot collaboration that characterizes contemporary thinking about automation's role in society. How might this careful balance between approachability and capability, between organic softness and mechanical precision, between familiar proportions and honest technological expression, shape our evolving relationship with increasingly sophisticated automated systems that share our physical spaces and collaborative endeavors?

Production Technology
The robot is made from safe, lightweight, and low maintenance materials, ensuring durability while providing a refined handfeel and friendly look, making it suitable for both interactions with children and prolonged use in public spaces. A bright, macaron inspired color palette softens the industrial coldness, creating a playful and vibrant atmosphere.
Design Challenge
The challenge was to a make TP 01 a warm and intelligent companion in public spaces. With micro expression recognition system and a 19 inch HD display, it precisely perceives user emotions and responds through voice, humanlike gestures, and dynamic facial expressions. It also learns user behaviors continuously to deliver more personalized emotional interactions. The robot features 6 DOF neck motions (nodding, lateral tilting, and panoramic rotation), further enhancing performance.
Project Duration
The project officially began in November 2024. By February 2025, its exterior and structural design were completed, followed by a lightweight 2.0 version in August 2025. The robot was officially launched and delivered in December 2025.
Operation Flow
With a micro expression recognition system, a 19 inch HD display, and voice interactions, the robot precisely perceives and responds to user emotions. It 6 DOF neck motions, highly biomimetic gaits, and a robust balance control algorithm enable more vivid and natural interactions.
A robot group control system supports synchronized group dances and parades with other robots. Interfaces for modular cultural and creative accessories support quick swapping of themed decorative panels.
Research
As robots become increasingly present in public spaces, traditional robots prioritize functionality while overlooking emotional connection. To address this, TP 01 features smooth, rounded shapes to enhance friendliness and a sense of safety. Combined with multimodal emotion perception and humanlike interactions, the robot integrates naturally into public spaces including cultural, commercial, tourism, and sports settings, serving as a link between advanced technology and everyday life.
Inspiration
The robot draws inspiration from Tangpa Street in Jinjiang District of Chengdu, a youthful and vibrant neighborhood rich in culture. The design team aims to fuse the friendliness in Chengdu culture with advanced robotic technology to create a humanoid robot that conveys the essence of local culture and is suitable for public spaces.
