About Frechal Terrace Residential Building Interiors
This project focuses on the shared spaces of a residential building and how they can enrich everyday life for its residents. Instead of repeating similar rooms, the design introduces highly differentiated areas throughout the building, each with its own character and atmosphere. The intention was to create a spatial experience similar to walking through a small city, where moving between spaces becomes a journey of discovery. Another key goal was to include environments that would rarely exist inside a typical home, expanding the range of activities and experiences available to residents.
Thiago Mondini's Frechal Terrace Residential Building Interiors represents a significant achievement within contemporary residential spatial design, demonstrating how material intelligence, geometric repetition, and chromatic restraint may coalesce into environments that honor both functional domesticity and aesthetic contemplation. The composition engages the viewer through its striking overhead field of copper-finished circular apertures, a bold architectural gesture that transcends mere decorative application to become a defining spatial signature, the rhythmic geometric pattern establishing visual cadence while serving practical functions of illumination, acoustic management, and vertical scale modulation within what appears to be a generous ceiling height, the metallic warm tones of these repeated discs introducing luminous animation and suggesting precious material investment that elevates everyday domestic space toward experiential richness. The integration of natural materials throughout the kitchen and dining zones reveals sophisticated understanding of how wood grain, stone veining, and concrete aggregate can create visual complexity within minimalist frameworks, the warm walnut cabinetry providing organic warmth and visual weight that grounds the composition, the dramatic black marble backsplash with pronounced white veining offering bold graphic contrast that commands attention within the functional kitchen zone, and the honed gray concrete island counter introducing industrial reference and cool chromatic relief that prevents the palette from drifting into excessive warmth or rustic nostalgia. Particularly successful appears the vertical aluminum slat partition system occupying the left portion of the frame, this semi-transparent screen simultaneously dividing space and permitting visual and luminous penetration, the regular rhythm of vertical elements creating kinetic visual effect as one moves through the environment while maintaining spatial openness, the brushed metallic finish catching and reflecting light to activate what might otherwise function as neutral divider, this element exemplifying how contemporary design may achieve privacy and spatial articulation without resorting to solid walls or complete visual separation. The furniture selection demonstrates discerning eye for proportion and material harmony, the oval dining table in matte bronze finish echoing the metallic ceiling treatment while introducing softer curvilinear geometry that offers welcome contrast to the rectilinear architectural framework, the dining chairs upholstered in textured neutral fabric combining comfort with visual restraint while their slender black metal frames maintain transparency and lightness that prevents furnishing from overwhelming the architectural space, the overall grouping scaled appropriately for intimate family dining yet capable of accommodating social gathering. The open shelving display of handcrafted vessels in natural fibers and earth-toned ceramics introduces crucial humanizing element, these organic forms and artisanal textures providing necessary counterpoint to the precision and industrial character of surrounding surfaces, suggesting inhabitants who value craft tradition and tactile richness alongside architectural modernism, the collection appearing curated rather than merely decorative, each vessel form contributing to overall compositional rhythm and chromatic story. The lighting strategy evidences sophisticated layering of ambient, task, and accent illumination, the recessed fixtures within ceiling apertures providing focused downlighting that creates pools of warm glow across dining and work surfaces, supplemented by what appears to be generous natural light entering from beyond the frame creating soft diffused ambient fill, this multipoint illumination preventing harsh shadows while allowing materials to express their inherent character through varied reflectivity. The spatial progression from foreground dining zone through middle-ground kitchen workspace toward background circulation suggests thoughtful consideration of domestic choreography, the arrangement facilitating social interaction between cooking and dining activities while maintaining functional clarity, threshold moments marked subtly through material transitions and furniture placement rather than through walls or abrupt divisions, the overall flow inviting movement and visual exploration. From a technical standpoint, the precision of material junctions, the alignment of repeated ceiling elements, the clean integration of appliances within cabinetry continuum, and the refinement of edge conditions throughout speak to high-caliber fabrication and installation discipline, these details elevating what might otherwise read as pleasant contemporary interior toward exemplary execution deserving recognition. The work invites consideration of how residential environments might balance aesthetic aspiration with daily functional demands, how material variety can create richness without visual chaos, how geometric repetition can establish rhythm without monotony, and how contemporary design vocabularies may honor craft traditions and natural materials while asserting distinctly modern spatial sensibilities. One might contemplate how such spaces shape daily rituals, how the interplay of warm and cool tones affects psychological comfort across different times of day, how the careful curation of displayed objects reflects inhabitant identity and values, and how architectural gestures like the copper ceiling field transform routine domestic activities into occasions for aesthetic awareness.
Press Kit
- Unique Properties
- This is a set of shared spaces of a residential building. The main purpose of the project was to create distinctive areas so that the users could feel like walking around a city and experiencing different spaces while in the same building.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- 475 square meters including different spaces as: main foyer, reception room, barbecue room, game room, wine bar, garages, staircases, kids room, gym, indoor pool, outdoor spaces.

- Production Technology
- Two main color palletes were used in this project: terracota and gray. Each set was used in different spaces for different purposes. The terracota pallete was used in the most inviting spaces, as the main foyer and the reception room. The gray pallete was saved for more intimate spaces, as the wine bar, that resembles a geometric cave, and the game room.
- Design Challenge
- The main challenge of this concept was to be very creative inside the limits of the existing project.
- Project Duration
- The project started in November 2024 and finished in September 2025. It is located in Balneario Picarras, Brazil.
- Operation Flow
- This is a project for shared spaces in a residential building. Instead of making everything look the same, the design creates very different areas throughout the building, so residents feel almost like they’re walking through a small city while moving between spaces. The idea was also to include places you normally wouldn’t find in a typical home, giving residents new experiences and ways to enjoy the building.
- Research
- The design process for the shared spaces of this residential building started with the idea of treating the building almost like a small city. Instead of repeating the same type of room, each area was intentionally designed to feel different from the others, creating variety and a sense of discovery as residents move through the building.
From this concept, the spaces were planned to function like urban destinations—places where people could pause, meet, relax, or spend time in different ways. Another key goal was to introduce environments that typically wouldn’t exist inside a conventional home. By doing this, the project expands what residents can experience within the building, turning everyday circulation into a richer and more engaging spatial journey. - Inspiration
- A small-scale city with different languages and amenities. Each space has a special character and a unique design, to instigate the users and inspire them.
