Interviews

Grand Interview

The ouroboros-inspired concept in Year Of The Snake Red Packets moves far beyond conventional zodiac iconography, transforming a centuries-old symbol of cyclical renewal into a cohesive design language that feels both intimate and universal. What was the defining creative moment when House of Forme recognized that the ouroboros, rather than a literal serpent motif, would become the philosophical backbone of Year Of The Snake Red Packets, and how did that foundational decision reshape every subsequent visual and structural choice across the 16 packets and four seasonal themes?

The ouroboros, a snake consuming its own tail, represents the eternal cycle of life. Like a snake shedding its skin, the arrival of a new year marks a never-ending cycle and a reminder of renewal. This symbol is further inspired by the four seasons as a natural expression of cyclical continuity.

One of the most compelling dimensions of Year Of The Snake Red Packets, and a subject of genuine fascination for audiences who follow culturally rooted design, is the deliberate concealment of serpent details within the four seasonal blossoms, where flickering tongues are hidden in orchids as symbols of guidance, sharp teeth within lilies to foster growth, blinking eyes integrated into lotus blooms to embody rebirth, and tails disguised within anthurium pistils to bestow power and fertility. How did House of Forme develop this symbolic vocabulary connecting specific serpent features to particular blossoms, and what cultural or iconographic research informed the decision to assign distinct blessings to each of those pairings?

The snake is a powerful figure, yet we were deliberate about avoiding anything overtly threatening. Instead, the sharp features of the snake are embedded subtly within each seasonal blossom, functioning as hidden quirks. The design strategy is restraint. Details don't appear all at once. This layered approach ensures the composition doesn't overwhelm. Research is heavily done from how the snake becomes a secret language within the florals, powerful precisely. They are all connected.

Year Of The Snake Red Packets reflects a genuine commitment to environmental responsibility, with FSC-certified paper and recyclable materials forming the production foundation, while simultaneously achieving a sensory richness through matte UV finishes and red, silver, and gold foil accents that speak to the premium register of the gifting experience. How did House of Forme reconcile those two demands throughout the production process, and in what specific ways did the pursuit of sustainability shape or constrain the material and finishing decisions that ultimately define the tactile identity of Year Of The Snake Red Packets?

Red packets are traditionally single-use objects, thus we wanted to challenge that. Subtle design cues and refined aesthetics encourage owners to hold onto them, to reuse them year after year. We used FSC-certified recyclable paper throughout. It is of a higher cost, but environmentally responsible. However, sustainability isn't only about green materials. A well-crafted object naturally encourages people to keep it. That longevity becomes sustainability. The materials are made to withstand time and reuse. In that sense, the cost is justified, for you're not buying something disposable.
