About Nanjing Fishing Port Restaurant
The project is a converted restaurant with three floors in Nanjing, covers about 2,000 sqm. Apart from catering and meetings, tea culture and wine culture are available. The decor ties together a vivid new Chinese feel from the ceiling to the stone layout on the floor. The ceiling is decorated with Chinese ancient brackets and roofs. It forms the main element of design on the ceiling. Materials like wood veneer, golden stainless steel, and painting signifying new Chinese feel are mixed together to create a new Chinese feel space.
Drawing upon centuries of architectural tradition that celebrates the intersection of ceremonial grandeur and welcoming hospitality, this interior space by Yuefeng ZHOU exemplifies the contemporary reinterpretation of palatial design vocabularies for modern dining environments. The composition demonstrates exceptional sensitivity to material dialogue, orchestrating conversations between the cool mineral permanence of substantial stone columns and the warm organic resonance of honey-toned timber screens that recall traditional lattice work found in historic architectural traditions. The ceiling installation emerges as the spatial protagonist, its cascading organic forms suggesting the spontaneous beauty of scattered blossoms or perhaps the iridescent scales of fish leaping from water, an iconographic gesture that may honor the establishment's maritime associations while achieving purely formal elegance through its contrast against the geometric rigor of the vermillion coffered structure above. The chromatic strategy reveals sophisticated understanding of psychological space-making, deploying warm reds and golds in the elevated ceiling plane to create a sense of protective enclosure and festive warmth, while the cooler grey tones of the supporting columns ground the composition in material authenticity and structural clarity. Technical accomplishment manifests throughout in the precision of joinery where timber meets stone, in the calculated reflection patterns across the highly polished floor plane, and in the seamless integration of contemporary lighting systems within traditional formal frameworks. The spatial sequence invites procession through zones of varying intimacy, from the expansive arrival hall documented here toward more contained dining environments glimpsed through glazed partitions, suggesting a carefully choreographed journey from public grandeur to private comfort. Viewers might contemplate how traditional architectural wisdom continues to inform contemporary practice, creating spaces that honor cultural memory while serving present-day needs for beauty and belonging.
