About E Drum Kinetic Electronic Drums Show
Inspired by a gyrosphere. the show combines a number of elements that together create an extraordinary experience. The installation changes its shape and creates a dynamic environment for the drummer to perform in. Edrum breaks the barrier between sound light and space, each note translates into light.
The Kinetic Electronic Drums Show by Idan Herbet exemplifies a remarkable convergence of performance art, lighting design, and musical innovation that positions itself within contemporary traditions of experiential entertainment technology and immersive spectacle creation, the work demonstrating sophisticated understanding of how illumination can transform functional musical instruments into sculptural elements that participate actively in the visual narrative of live performance, the designer appears to have conceived this installation as a total environment where the boundaries between instrument, light fixture, and stage architecture dissolve into a unified aesthetic experience, the arrangement of drum pads in sweeping arcs creates a sense of cosmic expansion while the LED ring illumination transforms each percussion surface into a luminous celestial body, the chromatic program employing cool cyan and turquoise tones establishes an otherworldly atmosphere that suggests technological transcendence while warm amber accents provide grounding human warmth, the theatrical deployment of atmospheric haze serves both practical and poetic functions by revealing light beams and creating depth gradients that enhance spatial perception, this work invites consideration of how contemporary performance design increasingly treats lighting not as mere illumination but as a co-equal expressive medium that shapes audience perception and emotional response, the central positioning of the human performer within this technological constellation reaffirms artistic agency and creative control even as the surrounding apparatus suggests enhancement rather than replacement of human capability, viewers might contemplate how such installations represent evolving relationships between performers and their instruments in an age of electronic music and visual spectacle, and how the ritual aspects of musical performance find new expression through technological means.

- Unique Properties
- E Drum was created to give the audience an extraordinary experience they was never seen before.
When working on this design we had to use multipal platforms and make them all work together.
First of all it is a new way for the drummer. A new machine. A new space/stage.
So the space uncouriged new thinking for the drummer and then that also inspired the musicians to write the
music. The E drums can be wheeled in the stage. As a new act. It had to be super modular from all aspects (size, weight, transport, time to build and also take apart) - Dimensions & Packaging
- The stage is 115cm R, 60cm high. It has 3 rings. The 1st ring is 150cm R, second is 70cm radius and the 3rd
115cm R. The machine can be broken into 3 parts for transportation. We have 19 drums each has a RGB
pixel controlled Neon Flex tube around it. All sound is controlled via Abelton Live. We Have 20 Robe 150beam
21 Nova 1light LED blinder2 AntariM7 gazers 2 Cold Pyro gazers 4 Par LED RGBW 1 Portman P1
lights controlled via GMA2 . 3 motors to move the rings. - Tags

- Production Technology
- We started on WYSIWYG lighting design software. We tested the space with a drummer to get notes. Lights in this project are about as equal to the music. To become the visual material that would imitate music through various methods in light design. we went over more technical and specific design. We solved the movement of the rings. We came up with how to lift the 3m ring with all fixtures on it. We developed the soft ware side Abelton Live for music and MIDI triggers and GMA2 for lights.
- Design Challenge
- Connect the lighting and sound together. Allow the drummer to become an integral part of the installation, Find a balance between the needs of the human drummer a new playgroud
with unlimited sounds and options with the needs of making a grand visual show. The spacing, this is on top of the fact that the rings move and change position. For the first time the drummer got drumms in the back of his head to use. How to build something an event could use and will make an impact. - Project Duration
- The project started march 2019 and the debute was on Sep 22nd 2019. First show was near the dead sea in
the desert in Israel. - Operation Flow
- The E drum is designed to be an interactive platform. The (technical) language is MIDI. So when the drummer
plays he triggers MIDI notes that we can transform into lighting Ques / video Ques or any other actions we
want do to or will want in the future. We loved building these platforms becuase the infuze and inspire creative
actions and options. This way we can always add ideas and come up with new ways to enhance the
experiance. This is key in the entertainment indusrty. This way each new production can make their own
unique show. - Research
- Examining existing drum positions in the market and how it is possible to renew a drum set. The goal was to reach a new experience that would not leave one person indifferent to it. Explored a relationship between light and drums so they blended in and spoke in one language. Explored how to allowing drums to be dynamic and not hurting the drummer as playing. Ensure weight versus mobility, transport, assembly , safety and comfort.
- Inspiration
- This project was born by chance. A producer wanted to bring a drum show, We came up with the Jyro insperation. And that it how it was born. We then formed a team of musicians, tech light and design and started to develope the E Drums

Design Interview about E Drum Kinetic Electronic Drums Show
The main principle of this design is to create a powerful and unforgettable experience, one that the spectator will remember. The design concept is based on the integration of sound, light and motion, requiring the spectator to activate different senses at once.
The source of inspiration for this project is the Gyro 360 Hover Device, an entertainment attraction used to simulate hovering/floating.
We adopted the idea of the mechanism for our purpose.
The source of inspiration for this project is the Gyro 360 Hover Device, an entertainment attraction used to simulate hovering/floating.
We adopted the idea of the mechanism for our purpose.
The main focal point in our design was to create a new, interactive connection between the spectator and the show. The dynamic, 360-degree sound and light installation is activated by playing the drums, creating a synchronized energy between the performer and his audience in a shared experience.
As COVID-19 is preventing social gatherings, we are working on new performances, and will be ready to turn our lights on once again, when possible, and invite our audiences into an unforgettable journey of the senses.
The design process and production of this product took place over a year of intensive collaboration with today’s leading minds in design, lighting, electricity, programming, music and drumming. Together, with the individual efforts from each one of us, we made this dream come true.
This product was commissioned by Cochavi-Klein Light Collective and Teta Music Production.
The clients came to me with the general concept and hired my services in order to develop the idea into reality.

The product was created for the Teta Music and Cochavi-Klein companies and the use of it is entirely for them to decide.
When I was approached for this commission, I agreed although I had no experience in this type of work. I felt very connected to the idea and the vision from the start. I generally choose to work on projects and with clients I believe in, as it sparks the drive and devotion necessary for creating great designs.
In this case, the design chose me, and not the other way around.

Many names and images come to mind when trying to answer this question. Ultimately, I am inspired and influenced by many people and things every day, therefore I do not have an unequivocal answer
This product is mobile and intended for live performances, stage shows, festivals, weddings and other events. The target customers are producers and planners of all sorts who want to give their audience a new, unique experience.
This design includes the combination of different elements to create an experience yet to be seen. The dynamic, interactive performance is what distinguishes it from other products, one performer’s ability to control and influence different senses at once helps achieve a unique and innovative show.
The name of the product is “E-DRUM” – Electronic drum. The electronic drum-set is the main element of the design, controlling the lights and sounds of the show.
I believe in combining different tools and mediums in any design, as each one directly affects the final product. The more I enrich my toolbox, the more independent I become, allowing me to learn and take my projects to the maximum.
For this specific project, I used hand sketches, images, 3D models, both physical and digital, all through trial and error to develop the design.

In my opinion, the most unique aspect of this design is the innovation in connecting the experiences of the performer and his audience. The combination of motion, sound a light in one interactive, kinetic show leaves the spectator with a jaw-dropping sensory experience.
This design includes a number of different aspects, requiring the collaboration between a variety of different professionals. As every part of the design influences the next, this project required full synchronization between industrial designers, lighting experts, stage directors, engineers, drummers, musicians and welders. With every step of the way, we learned to work together and achieve our goals.
Technology is a main factor in this project. The interactive connection between the different components of the installation is solely based on technology, creating a powerful performance.
Using technology, we were able to translate the tapping of the drums into lights and sounds, controlling the notes, volume, intensity and motion of the components.

Research is a central part of my design process. This project is based on studies of several different elements of the design, including electronic drum-sets and optimization of drumming in a 360 degree environment, hydraulics, metal cylinders and pistons for kinetic durability, and power suppliers and processors to withstand the electronic loads.
The design process poses many challenges, and as designers, we have to be alert and attentive in order to find creative solutions. The main challenges for me in this project were: a) to turn the drummerperformer into an integral part of the installation, ensuring that, on stage, they are seen as one entity. B) Synchronizing the lighting, sounds and motion of the components in such a way that each one elevates the other without disturbing it. C) Designing the installation as a mobile product, while not compromising its dimensions (3M X 3M).
These challenges required a strong orientation to details, as each millimeter is computed and every component is carefully selected.
