About Sacred Blessing Kunsinstallasie

Production Technology
Constructed using modular timber units, the installation employs precise joinery and interlocking assembly techniques. The absence of excessive fasteners emphasizes clean lines and allows for structural adaptability. Natural materials such as wood and bamboo are selected not only for sustainability but also to enhance the organic visual language and spiritual resonance of the piece.
Design Challenge
The key challenge was aligning monumental contemporary aesthetics with sacred, historical context. Respecting religious symbolism while innovating form required deep cultural sensitivity. Material constraints in large-scale wood construction, safety regulations in temple grounds, and balancing open access with spiritual solemnity were overcome through iterative design and stakeholder consultation.
Research
This site-specific project explores how spatial art can elevate spiritual experiences in sacred environments. The objective was to materialize prayer and faith into a sensory encounter. Methods included ethnographic observation, dialogue with temple communities, and on-site prototyping. Visitors' emotional responses were studied to refine the immersive design. Results indicate a heightened engagement with traditional rituals through contemporary reinterpretation. The project illustrates how art can revitalize intangible heritage and foster cultural continuity.
Inspiration
Rooted in the spiritual rituals of Taiwanese temples, this installation translates intangible prayers into material form through traditional weaving. It draws from collective cultural memory and seeks to evoke the impermanence and beauty of faith. By reinterpreting religious symbolism through contemporary design, the work becomes a bridge between heritage and the evolving spiritual experience.
Project Duration
The project 祈福(Blessing) was developed and installed at Beigang Wude Temple, Taiwan. The public exhibition began prior to February 2025 and is scheduled to conclude on June 30, 2025.
Operation Flow
Visitors are invited to enter the sculpture—shaped like open, welcoming hands—where engraved wooden scripts surround them with silent prayers. The physical experience of stepping into the hands transforms passive observation into active participation, encouraging a deeper personal reflection and spiritual intimacy.
