About Fabricca Headbone Primary Function: Pandong sa Ulo

Production Technology
Headbone is produced using breathable textile materials sourced from surplus fabrics of large-scale textile manufacturers, reducing material waste and supporting sustainable production. An internal non-breakable shaping wire is integrated into the structure and has undergone pressure and durability testing to ensure long-term form retention, flexibility, and user safety without compromising comfort
Design Challenge
The primary challenge was reinterpreting culturally rooted headwear into a contemporary, functional design without losing its symbolic value. Internally, the project addressed social inclusivity and dignity in relation to hair loss. Externally, challenges included developing a safe, durable shaping mechanism within textile constraints, sourcing sustainable materials, and ensuring compliance with production and safety standards while maintaining aesthetic integrity.
Research
Type of Research: Applied design research.
Objectives: To create intuitive, inclusive headwear combining form control and elegance.
Methodology: Material testing, prototyping, and user-centric iteration.
Data & Tools: Textile sampling, pressure tests, wear trials.
Participants: Female users, including individuals with hair loss.
Results: Stable, easy styling without fasteners.
Insights & Impact: Improves accessibility, dignity, and sustainable fashion practices.
Inspiration
Headbone was inspired by the sculptural elegance and cultural strength of African women colorful headwear traditions, combined with a functional intent to support women experiencing hair loss due to health conditions.
