About Casa Lupita Tŷ Preswyl

Mae Casa Lupita yn talu teyrnged i bensaernïaeth drefedigaethol glasurol Merida, Mecsico a'i chymdogaethau hanesyddol. Roedd y prosiect hwn yn cynnwys adfer y casona, a ystyrir yn safle treftadaeth, yn ogystal â dyluniad pensaernïol, mewnol, dodrefn a thirwedd. Cynsail cysyniadol y prosiect yw cyfosod pensaernïaeth drefedigaethol a chyfoes.

Dimensions & Packaging
Lot size: 11 x 30 m
Building area: 320 m2
Tags
mexico, colonial, modern, restoration, contemporary
Production Technology
Tradtional colonial building (vigueta and viguetilla, chukum, masonry walls) and new technologies (reinforced concrete, steel structures).
Design Challenge
The biggest challenge presented for this project was the restoration and integration of the historic casona, and updating it to modern living. The original structure is protected as a heritage site, thereby having to abide by specific norms and guidelines. A combination of traditional artisanal building methods as well as modern construction were used to achieve the end result.
Research
In depth research of traditional building methods and materials were needed for the restoration aspect, as well as an understanding of the type of colonial architecture of the area and the norms and guidelines that were necessary to follow due to it being a historic site.
Inspiration
The conceptual premise is the juxtaposition of colonial and contemporary architecture. The nineteenth century casona was restored, the add on that was built during the 1960s was demolished to give way to the traditional central patio layout.
Project Duration
August 2018- October 2019
Operation Flow
This project injects new life into a historic site that was in disuse, integrating into its physical context and time.
