We are Sholem Cimet Ralsky (father) and Yoram Cimet Pasol (son) leading CIMET Arquitectos, a firm with 40 years of experience in architectural design, real estate development, and construction.

Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?

We are Sholem Cimet Ralsky (father) and Yoram Cimet Pasol (son) leading CIMET Arquitectos, a firm with 40 years of experience in architectural design, real estate development, and construction. The firm's goal is to create positive urban impacts through sustainable interventions, enhancing the well-being of the areas where their projects are located.

What makes a design successful?

It is very important, and I believe that we aim to create elegant and timeless architecture, avoiding trends, that is highly functional and generates positive impacts on both the population and users, always with sustainability as a goal.

From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?

We have a professional goal: to restore buildings in Mexico City with social and environmental responsibility. They both believe in the vast potential of repopulating central areas, focusing on corporate offices and vertical housing.

How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?

Design should aim to integrate with its context; there are no longer formal whims or projects isolated from their reality. Each project must be responsive to its environment, elevating it.

How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

We believe in architecture as a driver to create a positive impact on the urban environment.

We believe in creating enriching spatial experiences.

We believe in sustainability as a catalyst for a better future.

We believe in connectivity as an element that drives development.

Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

Of course, there is a social responsibility and a cultural heritage that we strive to integrate into every design.

Can you talk a little about your design process?

From the very conception, design, and first sketches, one must look toward the future, finding ways to address needs, functionality, and space. Everything related to technology, equipment, and requirements must be seamlessly integrated.

Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?

When a project is conceived with the goal of solving all these complexities as a whole, it becomes truly intelligent. A building may have poor spatial design yet be packed with the latest technology—it may be automated, but that doesn’t make it intelligent. If you don’t plan from the start, addressing all needs while integrating technology, it will never be truly smart.

How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?

18 to 24 months, depending on the challenges and size of the project.

What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?

We are often asked about the situation in our city, Mexico City, particularly issues such as water shortages, mobility, and how, in a real estate sector increasingly affected by these problems, CIMET Arquitectos seeks to change paradigms.

What was your most important job experience?

Glorieta Cibeles Tower, bringing this design from conception to completion has been an exciting journey.

Who are some of your clients?

Mitsubishi Electric

What are your future plans? What is next for you?

Continue contributing to the improvement of the city with increasingly responsible and sustainable architecture.

Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?

We design and build, all in an integrated manner.

Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?

Your innovative approach to sustainable design in Glorieta Insurgentes Tower achieved remarkable energy efficiency - could you elaborate on how the double-glazed triple layer low-E curtain wall system contributes to the 57.9% energy savings while maximizing natural light?

It helps save energy in two ways: first, by thermally insulating the building’s interior, allowing for the strategic use of air conditioning on each floor and space; second, by making lighting control more efficient, using artificial light only when absolutely necessary.

The transformation of Glorieta Insurgentes Tower from an abandoned earthquake-damaged site to a vibrant urban hub is fascinating - how did the "NO LIMITS" graffiti inspire your vision for urban rescue and revitalization of this crucial intersection in Mexico City?

A project should never impose itself on its context; it should aim to harmonize and resonate with it. It is through these gestures of openness that users have fully embraced this tower.

The integration of an 800-person multipurpose hall within Glorieta Insurgentes Tower is an intriguing architectural choice - what drove the decision to incorporate this substantial communal space on the 8th floor, and how does it enhance the building's role in the community?

This decision brings dynamism to the project, creating communal spaces that draw people into the heart of the tower, rather than limiting social interaction to the ground floor and leaving the other 18 levels isolated from their surroundings.

As recipients of the Silver A' Design Award for Construction and Real Estate Projects, how did your father-son partnership influence the design philosophy and decision-making process throughout the development of Glorieta Insurgentes Tower?

Our relationship goes beyond a superficial professional aspect. It is thanks to this father-son bond and shared principles and values that the success of Torre Cibeles is achieved, enriching mutual dialogue for decision-making and providing a more solid approach.

The structural solution of Glorieta Insurgentes Tower, with its mega columns and semicircular shape, is both elegant and complex - could you share insights into the engineering challenges of achieving 91% area efficiency while maintaining 360-degree views?

The use of steel and hydraulic pistons to create a resilient, mixed structure not only optimizes the spaces and helps open 360-degree views of the city, but also reinforces the original skeleton, which was damaged by previous earthquakes, ensuring it will better withstand future impacts.

Your description of Glorieta Insurgentes Tower as an "urban acupuncture needle" is compelling - how has this strategic intervention catalyzed broader improvements in the surrounding urban fabric since its completion in 2018?

Torre Cibeles aims to be a landmark without overpowering its context. It acts as a mirror reflecting its surroundings, transforming from a monolith that once disrupted the neighborhood into an urban acupuncture needle that, through its function, enhances and adds value to its environment, while in its form, it seeks the most respectful integration possible.

The incorporation of vegetated roof gardens covering 20% of Glorieta Insurgentes Tower's plot area is significant - how do these green spaces contribute to both the building's sustainability goals and the wellbeing of its 3,000 daily occupants?

It is essential that the human footprint be as minimal as possible. In the case of Torre Cibeles, it was necessary to compensate for the footprint of the pre-existing tower by creating green terraces that allow rainwater to permeate the soil. This, in addition to benefiting the area, significantly improves air quality and the visual image of the surrounding context, thereby enhancing the quality of life for its users.

Looking at the intelligent building systems in Glorieta Insurgentes Tower, how do the automated lighting, shading, and occupancy detection technologies work together to optimize both energy efficiency and user comfort?

These strategies have contributed to the timely and responsible management of electrical energy, while also creating spaces that are perfectly suited to the user's work and physical needs.

The achievement of LEED Platinum Certification for Glorieta Insurgentes Tower represents a milestone in Mexican sustainable architecture - what specific innovations or approaches implemented in this project could serve as a model for future high-rise developments in Mexico City?

The achievement of LEED Platinum Certification for Glorieta Insurgentes Tower represents a significant milestone in Mexican sustainable architecture. This project introduced several innovations and approaches that can serve as a model for future high-rise developments in Mexico City. One key innovation is the integration of energy-efficient systems, such as advanced HVAC and lighting systems, that significantly reduce the building's energy consumption. The use of sustainable materials and the incorporation of green roofs contribute to improving the urban ecosystem, reducing the building's carbon footprint while promoting biodiversity. The project also implemented water conservation strategies, including rainwater harvesting and water-efficient fixtures, which help minimize resource consumption in a city facing water scarcity. Furthermore, the tower's design maximizes natural light penetration, reducing the need for artificial lighting and enhancing occupant well-being.Incorporating a comprehensive waste management plan and utilizing renewable energy sources are additional strategies that align with global sustainability goals. By blending these innovative approaches, Glorieta Insurgentes Tower sets a benchmark for sustainable high-rise construction in Mexico City, showcasing how urban developments can effectively address environmental challenges while enhancing quality of life for their occupants.

As architects committed to improving urban surroundings, how has the success of Glorieta Insurgentes Tower influenced your vision for future projects, particularly in terms of combining commercial viability with positive social impact?

Despite the tower's scale in the area, its placement has not led to increased traffic or deterioration of the area in terms of real estate value. On the contrary, the urban image of the neighborhood has improved, with Torre Cibeles acting as a mirror that magnifies the surrounding architecture, while also becoming the new landmark of the area.
