How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?

My design style is characterized by its simplicity, modernity, and a sense of organized structure—which might seem atypical in the context of design and art. This 'organized chaos' reflects a deliberate approach where every element has a purpose and contributes to the overall harmony of the design. While I often draw inspiration from Arabic design elements, I integrate these only when they enhance the project's aesthetic and functional goals. I don’t force these elements; instead, I incorporate them naturally when they align with the design narrative. This method ensures that my work not only respects but also revitalizes traditional motifs within a modern framework."

Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?

I currently reside in Kuwait, where the rich cultural heritage deeply shapes my design approach. Growing up in this vibrant environment has enabled me to blend traditional Arabic artistic elements with contemporary global trends, creating a unique stylistic fusion that enriches my work. My upbringing in a culturally mixed setting has added significant diversity to my personal and professional life, fostering a deep appreciation for my heritage. This appreciation continually inspires me to innovatively integrate cultural motifs into modern designs, making them relevant and appealing internationally. The key advantage of this approach is the ability to produce distinctive designs that stand out in a competitive market. However, the challenge remains in balancing authenticity with modernity to ensure that my designs are accessible and resonate with a diverse audience.

How do you work with companies?

I work closely with companies to thoroughly understand their vision and needs, ensuring that my design solutions align seamlessly with their business goals. By immersing myself in learning about the company's culture, challenges, and objectives, I can anticipate their needs more effectively. This deep understanding not only speeds up the design process but also ensures that the solutions I provide are both impactful and timely. My approach is proactive and focused on achieving results that not only meet but often exceed client expectations.

What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?

Choose a designer not just for their style but for their ability to solve problems and communicate effectively. A good designer understands business just as well as art.

Can you talk a little about your design process?

My design process is comprehensive and iterative, beginning with extensive research to deeply understand the project's context and the needs of the target audience. This is followed by concept development, where ideas are generated and refined, and then prototyping, which brings these concepts to life for initial feedback. User testing is a critical phase that ensures the solution resonates well with its intended users.

Additionally, I place a high value on my relationships with clients. I believe in being thorough and transparent, often educating them about the design process in a way that's easy to understand. This approach not only helps in solving their problems effectively but also in enhancing their appreciation of the design’s value. By guiding clients through this process, I help shift their perspective and enrich their understanding of what good design can achieve. This collaborative journey is key to creating solutions that are not only visually appealing but also strategically sound.

My home features a collection of wall art, each piece telling a unique story, setting the tone for each room. I treasure my figurines and little souvenirs, scattered around my desk, which evoke cherished memories from my childhood. Could you please share some pearls of wisdom for young designers? What are your suggestions to young, up and coming designers?

For young designers venturing into the expansive universe of art and design, my advice is to stay deeply curious and continuously explore. Find your niche, discover what resonates with you, and then break rules and push the boundaries of conventional design. In this era, the most important thing is to provide the audience with an experience, share part of your professional life (work-wise) with them, sometimes maybe your personal life, whatever works best for you.

From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?

The positive is getting to create every day and seeing your ideas impact the real world. The challenge is continually adapting to new technologies and trends.

What is your "golden rule" in design?

Always design with the end-user in mind. User-centric designs are not only more successful but more fulfilling to create.

What skills are most important for a designer?

Design projects can vary, from a few weeks for a logo to several months or even years for other projects, depending on the scope and client needs.

What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?

The most common question I get is about balancing creativity with commercial goals. It’s about finding that sweet spot where design meets business.

Throughout my career, each role has presented its unique set of challenges and contributed significantly to my development. However, my time at Memac Ogilvy stands out as especially transformative. It was a pivotal period that broadened my expertise in digital marketing and sharpened my strategic thinking. This role didn't just enhance my skills; it opened my eyes to new dimensions in marketing and profoundly influenced my approach to design and client strategies. It was during this time that I truly grasped the depth and impact of integrating digital solutions with traditional marketing.

Who are some of your clients?

I've had the privilege of collaborating with several high-profile clients, including the Touristic Enterprises Company, owners of Kuwait Towers, the Ministry of Tourism in Georgia, the Iraq Fund, and the iconic Hamra Tower. Additionally, I work closely with Kout Food Group, managing branding across their diverse portfolio. My experience spans multiple sectors such as government, retail, food & beverage, medical, and consultants, each offering unique challenges and opportunities that enrich my professional journey.

What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?

I find the most enjoyment in working on brands that have a rich backstory. These narratives provide a solid foundation from which I can draw inspiration and build a compelling visual story. This process allows me to deeply engage with the brand's essence and craft designs that encapsulate and amplify their core message.

What are your future plans? What is next for you?

My immediate focus is on enhancing my interactive design skills and leading my team toward innovative solutions that have a tangible impact. This initiative not only involves reimagining these brands from a marketing perspective but also aligning them closely with contemporary design trends as part of our studio’s integration. These efforts are geared towards elevating our brand presence and ensuring a cohesive and dynamic market strategy.

Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?

While I value the autonomy of working on designs individually, I firmly believe that teamwork is indispensable for achieving comprehensive and innovative outcomes. Over time, I've learned that 'one hand can't clap on its own'—collaborative efforts often yield richer, more effective results. Whenever possible, I actively engage in every stage of the design process, consistently contributing my insights and ideas to ensure that the final product benefits from a blend of perspectives.

Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?

In addition to my professional endeavors, I have a profound passion for hands-on projects that allow me to blend various media and bring my designs to life in dynamic ways. From seeing my artwork transform from digital designs to physical installations like billboards and event setups, I revel in the process of creation from start to finish.

One of my personal projects that I hold dear is the design of my own wedding card, to which I added a ribbon myself to give it a personal touch. I’ve also ventured into jewelry design, crafting necklaces, bracelets, and earrings with innovative designs that incorporate modern interpretations of Arabic calligraphy in an abstract style.

Designing personalized gifts is another passion of mine, as these projects allow me to infuse emotion and individuality into each piece. This aspect of my work not only fulfills a creative desire but also strengthens the personal connection between my art and its recipients.

Kayan 2022 Kalender · 10 spørgsmål

The transformation of the Kayan 2022 Calendar into both a functional tool and an architectural poster was inspired by a desire to merge functionality with aesthetic appeal.

Your innovative approach to transforming the Kayan 2022 Calendar from a functional timepiece into an architectural poster speaks to remarkable versatility - could you elaborate on how this dual-purpose concept emerged and evolved during your creative process?

The transformation of the Kayan 2022 Calendar into both a functional tool and an architectural poster was inspired by a desire to merge functionality with aesthetic appeal. This dual-purpose concept was born from the idea of creating a piece that not only keeps time but also serves as an inspiring visual element in any space. Throughout the design process, the challenge was to seamlessly integrate artistic expression with everyday functionality, thereby reflecting the innovative spirit of Kayan's architectural practice.

The geometric forms in the Kayan 2022 Calendar create a striking visual narrative of broken cubes - what inspired you to integrate these particular architectural elements, and how do they reflect the design philosophy of Kayan Office?

The design of the Kayan 2022 Calendar, marked by its geometric forms and resemblance to broken cubes, draws inspiration from the distinctive geometry of the Kayan logo. This direction allowed me to explore a variety of organic and geometric compositions, leading to the creation of a series of forms that artfully blend diamond shapes and cubes. This combination introduces a captivating illusion effect, where the interplay between these shapes creates a visual depth that seems to shift depending on the viewer's perspective. This dynamic interaction not only showcases Kayan's dedication to modern and innovative architectural solutions but also adheres to and expands upon their established design philosophy, illustrating a commitment to both form and function in architectural design.

The Kayan 2022 Calendar's unique layout places dates around iconic geometric forms without traditional day headers - what led you to challenge conventional calendar design principles, and how did you ensure intuitive usability?

Challenging traditional calendar designs was key to promoting Kayan's brand image & design aesthetics as modern and innovative. Opting for a compact, pocket-sized design that doubles as a wall poster, the calendar was crafted to be not only practical but also a piece of decor. The decision to forego traditional day headers in favor of a streamlined date arrangement was aimed at enhancing the simplicity and modernity of the design, making it intuitive and user-friendly while still stylish.

In developing the Kayan 2022 Calendar's folding mechanism from a 59.4 x 59.4 cm poster to a compact 14.85 x 14.85 cm format, what technical challenges did you encounter, and how did material selection influence your solutions?

One challenge was selecting a paper durable enough to maintain its form when folded yet premium enough to reflect Kayan’s sophisticated identity. After careful consideration, I selected 120 gsm wood-free paper, which offered a perfect balance of quality, environmental friendliness, and durability, with an uncoated finish to enhance its tactile appeal.

The Kayan 2022 Calendar earned recognition with an A' Design Award - how has this international acknowledgment influenced your approach to balancing functional design with artistic expression in subsequent projects?

Receiving an A' Design Award for the Kayan 2022 Calendar was an honor that significantly impacted my approach to design. It strengthened my focus on detail, concept development, and presentation quality. This recognition has not only boosted my credibility but also deepened my clients' trust in my ability to deliver innovative, impactful designs.

The white space integration in the Kayan 2022 Calendar serves both aesthetic and practical purposes - could you share your thought process behind creating these intentional voids for user interaction?

Incorporating white space into the calendar design was a practical decision to cater to Kayan's team, providing ample room for notes and marking important dates. This minimal yet functional approach ensured the calendar balanced usability with a unique, standout aesthetic.

The Kayan 2022 Calendar features a distinctive color coding system for weekends - how did you arrive at this specific visual language to enhance user experience while maintaining design harmony?

The subtle use of color coding enhances the functionality of the calendar while aligning with Kayan’s elegant brand identity. Weekends are marked in a calming blue, contrasting with the bright red used for holidays, facilitating quick visual differentiation by users and maintaining a cohesive look that complements Kayan's sophisticated style.

Given Kuwait's limited material resources, how did the constraints of local market availability shape your final execution decisions for the Kayan 2022 Calendar?

Kuwait’s limited material resources influenced many execution decisions. However, the simplicity of the design allowed me to achieve Kayan’s vision with locally available materials, leveraging my professional network to ensure the final product was both practical and modern while meeting the client’s expectations.

The architectural collage on the reverse side of the Kayan 2022 Calendar creates a second life for the piece - could you discuss the curation process for selecting and arranging these architectural details?

The architectural collage on the reverse side of the calendar was a way to honor Kayan's architectural identity. Featuring details inspired by works of Arch. Bashar Al Salem and photographer Jack Wozniak, the design transforms the calendar into a timeless piece of art, extending its life and purpose beyond the calendar year.

Looking at the impact of the Kayan 2022 Calendar on client engagement, how has this innovative approach to corporate calendar design influenced your perspective on creating functional art for business communication?

The design process of the Kayan 2022 Calendar was a delightful blend of creativity and functionality, emphasizing the intersection of corporate and artistic design. This project demonstrated the potential of graphic design to enhance business communications, making everyday tools like calendars both functional and visually engaging, and deepening client engagement through thoughtful design.

Frozen Splash Kunstnerisk Fotografi · 10 spørgsmål

"The success of 'Frozen Splash Artistic Photos' is deeply rooted in the meticulous coordination of lighting and timing.

Your innovative approach to capturing the precise millisecond of tea splashes in Frozen Splash Artistic Photos demonstrates remarkable technical precision - could you walk us through the specific lighting setup and timing techniques that made these extraordinary moments possible?

"The success of 'Frozen Splash Artistic Photos' is deeply rooted in the meticulous coordination of lighting and timing. A Godox V1 Speedlite flash, positioned strategically behind the subject at a lower angle and directed upwards at the wall, expertly freezes each splash at the critical moment. This setup creates vivid contrasts and brilliantly accentuates the liquid’s dynamic movement. Synchronizing the high-speed shutter settings on the Canon 5D Mark IV with the precise moment of pulling transparent strings tied to the cups was essential in capturing these ephemeral artistic expressions."

The intricate patterns formed by the suspended liquid in Frozen Splash Artistic Photos challenge our perception of time and motion - what inspired you to explore this intersection of traditional photography and artistic expression?

The intricate patterns formed by the suspended liquid in these photos emerge from my fascination with capturing fleeting moments that reveal the unseen dynamics of time and motion. Inspired by the pioneering high-speed liquid photography of Karl Taylor and Ali Arbes, I was driven to push traditional photography boundaries, exploring how motion, often invisible to the naked eye, can be artistically captured and appreciated.

Your Bronze A' Design Award-winning Frozen Splash Artistic Photos showcases a unique manipulation of transparent rope to create these dynamic compositions - how did you discover and refine this distinctive technique?

The distinctive use of transparent string in "Frozen Splash Artistic Photos" originated from innovative experiments with everyday objects. This setup allowed controlled yet unpredictable results, refining a technique that enhances the dynamic interaction between liquid and air, and capturing each splash as a unique piece of art.

The interplay of light, motion, and timing in Frozen Splash Artistic Photos creates what you've termed "Art by Accident" - could you elaborate on how embracing unpredictability influenced your creative process?

The "Art by Accident" concept in the Frozen Splash series is a celebration of the unexpected. This artistic approach stems from the belief that some of the most striking artworks are born from unplanned results. By embracing unpredictability, I ventured into various dynamic splash techniques, leading to unique and captivating images that traditional methods might not achieve.

Frozen Splash Artistic Photos required extensive experimentation with speedlite flash and precise shutter timing - what were the most unexpected technical challenges you encountered, and how did overcoming them shape your approach to future projects?

One unexpected challenge was ensuring perfect synchronization between pulling the string and triggering the camera's shutter. This intricate dance of timing often felt like orchestrating a splash symphony in my living room, which, despite the chaos (and a fair amount of spilled tea), enriched my understanding of motion capture. This has ingrained a deep appreciation for flexibility and creative adaptability in my photographic work.

The visual narrative in Frozen Splash Artistic Photos transforms ordinary tea cups into extraordinary artistic elements - how did your background in graphic design influence your composition and post-processing decisions?

My graphic design background profoundly influences my approach to photography. In "Frozen Splash Artistic Photos," I applied design principles to enhance visual storytelling, using composition techniques to focus viewer attention and sophisticated post-processing to refine each photo's aesthetic, transforming simple tea cups into visually striking elements.

Looking at the evolution of Frozen Splash Artistic Photos from concept to award-winning series, what key insights about liquid photography would you share with emerging photographers who aspire to push creative boundaries?

For photographers interested in liquid photography, patience and persistence are key. The complexity of capturing liquid motion requires experimenting with various techniques, understanding the interactions of liquids with other substances, and mastering the right lighting setup. The right moment can transform a simple splash into a breathtaking piece of art.

The stunning results in Frozen Splash Artistic Photos emerged from continuous testing and practical experimenting - could you share a pivotal moment during the project that fundamentally changed your understanding of high-speed photography?

A significant learning moment in this project came from gaining a deeper understanding of our lighting equipment and the nuances of how different setups impacted our images. Experimenting with various speeds, the reloading time it required for taking multiple images, and how the camera reacted to these changes were crucial. Additionally, adjusting the pulling speeds and angles of the strings provided pivotal insights into capturing the perfect splash. These experiments not only enhanced my ability to capture motion but also opened up endless possibilities for creative expression in high-speed photography.

Your work in Frozen Splash Artistic Photos masterfully balances technical precision with artistic spontaneity - how do you envision this technique evolving in your future creative endeavors?

The success of this project has spurred me to further explore and challenge myself in real-time photoshoots for clients, aiming to capture spontaneous and artful moments. This journey into dynamic photography encourages continuous innovation, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with a camera and a visionary outlook.

The success of Frozen Splash Artistic Photos demonstrates the potential of experimental photography - what advice would you offer to photographers looking to develop their own unique artistic voice while mastering complex technical challenges?

For photographers venturing into experimental photography, my advice is to embrace both the technical and the unpredictable. Stay open to experimentation—sometimes a simple change, like changing a cup’s shape used in a shoot, can lead to a dramatically different and visually intriguing outcome. Always be ready to capture the unplanned, as these moments often yield the most artistically fulfilling results.
