Jaroslaw Markowicz Receives the Silver A' Design Award for Etile Photovoltaic Metal Roof in Building Materials and Construction Components Design
The international grand jury of the 2019 - 2020 A' Design Award & Competition recognizes Jaroslaw Markowicz for building materials and construction components design
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COMO, Italy, April 23, 2020 /DesignNewswire/ A' Design Award & Competition has announced that Etile Photovoltaic Metal Roof by Jaroslaw Markowicz, designed for Electrotile, has been granted the Silver A' Design Award in the Building Materials and Construction Components Design category. The award was conferred within the 2019 - 2020 A' Design Award & Competition and was decided through blind peer review by an international grand jury panel of established academics, design professionals and press members, who scored anonymized entries against predetermined criteria.
What the Silver A' Design Award Means
The Silver A' Design Award celebrates top-tier designs that embody excellence and innovation. This award acknowledges creations that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, reflecting the designer's deep understanding and skill. Silver A' Design Award recipients are recognized for their contribution to raising industry standards and advancing the practice of design. Their work often incorporates original innovations and elicits a strong emotional response, making a notable impact on the improvement of everyday life.
Regarding Etile Photovoltaic Metal Roof
Etile is a photovoltaic metal roof tile designed for use on many types of buildings. Each module is based on a traditional galvanized steel roof tile and carries five micro photovoltaic panels that generate electricity. The modules measure 1200 by 360 by 30 millimetres and are joined together like ordinary roof tiles, with cable connections hidden under the roof sheathing. The power line is connected to the building power grid. The steel panel can be separated at the end of the product life. Etile adds energy generation without changing the roof structure.
Award Record
With this recognition, Jaroslaw Markowicz is a winner of 5 A' Design Awards. The awards were granted in the 2019 - 2020 edition of the A' Design Award & Competition.
About the A' Building Materials and Construction Components Design Award
The A' Building Components Design Award is an international design competition recognizing good building components by best brands and designers worldwide. It is organized within the A' Design Award & Competition and is open to building material manufacturers, building material brands, construction product designers and industrial designers from all countries. Typical entries include bricks, beams, windows, doors, insulation materials and roofing materials. The awarded building components designs are published at https://designers.org/design-category/building-components
About A' Design Award & Competition
Organized annually since 2008, A' Design Award & Competition is an international, juried design accolade. The competition is open to entries from all countries. The philanthropic mission of the A' Design Award is to advance society through good design, by recognizing and promoting superior products, projects and services that benefit society, and by creating a global awareness and appreciation for good design practices and principles. Nominations are peer reviewed and evaluated anonymously by an international grand jury panel of established academics, design professionals and press members against predetermined criteria such as functionality, ergonomics, engineering, presentation, innovation, usability, sustainability and technology, with score normalization applied to remove biases. Awards are conferred at Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Iron levels. Eligible laureates receive the A' Design Prize, which includes the award trophy, the certificate of design excellence, the hardcover yearbook, a lifetime license to use the A' Design Award winner logo, exhibition of awarded works, an invitation to the gala night and award ceremony in Italy, inclusion in the World Design Rankings and Designer Rankings, and public relations and publicity services. Registration, uploading a work and receiving a preliminary score are free of charge, and Professional and Digital Edition laureates are not contractually obliged to pay further fees to claim the A' Design Prize. Design Details
- Unique Properties
- Electrotile is going to offer photovoltaic steel tiles together with the rest of PV equipment and installation service unlike current suppliers of roof integrated PV. The modular, easy-to-use product allows it to be delivered to almost any type of building.
- Inspiration
- Traditional photovoltaic panels often look unsightly on the building, their large size does not allow for an exact fit to the roof body. We wanted to propose a solution which would look good on the building and not stand out from traditional roof tiles.
- Research
- the roofing sheet project was a research and development project during which many tests were carried out. During the design process, we were testing various panel sizes, material connectrions and overal look of product on the building.
- Challenge
- Our company has been collecting experience in photovoltaics by installing panels on roofs. Most of the insides came from our customers who complained about the poor aesthetics and the mismatch of the size of the panels to the roof. The design challenge was available solutions that would be quick to install, available cheap and aesthetically.
- Realization and Technology
- the design of the etile is based on metal roof tiles, a traditional solution based on galvanized steel has created an easily available product. Each individual module has 5 micro photovoltaic panels that generate energy. The steel panel can be easily separated, which is extremely important for the product life cycle.
- Operation and Interaction
- The modules are connected together in the same way as ordinary roof tiles. The only element distinguishing Etile are cable connections, which are hidden under the roof sheathing. As in the case of a solar installation, the power line is connected to the home power grid.
- Project Duration and Location
- the project was developed in Warsaw. Conceptual work lasted from september 2016. After many prototypes and tests, the project was finally implemented in January 2020.
