Regarding Mirage de Parc Public Facilities

Mirage de Parc is an architectural photography series made on Yeongjongdo Island in Incheon, South Korea. The images focus on the area under the monorail station in front of the Paradise City Hotel. Natural light reflected on structures and buildings creates effects that resemble a mirage. Curved yellow lines run through the wide space and shape each composition. The photographs were taken with a 35mm camera and tilt-shift lenses over nine months, at dawn and at sunset across the seasons. The series reflects the transformation of the island.

Design Details

Unique Properties
The Project: Mirage de Parc is a photography project that showing architectures. Also, it was planned by an inspiration of the phenomenon from nature, light. ‘Mirage Line’ smoothly approached to under the Paradise City station of monorail. And also, it delivered each meaning through different spots such as structures and buildings. This work shows his wonder to the new island.
Inspiration
Yeongjong do, it is now one of the fancy islands in South Korea which is located in Incheon city and has the Incheon International Airport. Before the airport is built, there was literally a wasteland. The island is completely developed now. Jongmin Park had seen the timeline of development the island for several years. Research
Working for a year, I traveled about 100 kilometers round trip. We investigated elements that could give us an atmosphere, such as dawn and dusk, and took pictures every season. In order to express sculptures like mirages, the color just rising and the time zone at sunset were the most appropriate.
Challenge
It was 'waiting'. I spent time moving, seeing, and thinking about the timing of the outcome I wanted.
Realization and Technology
TS lenses, which can express movement with a 35mm DSLR camera, were the most helpful for filming.
Operation and Interaction
This work is my personal background and thoughts. However, I want audiences to feel the work as it looks instead of trying to understand perfectly. And, thought this, I want them to try to figure out the my ‘mirage’ but also their own ‘mirage’.
Project Duration and Location
9 months Under the monorail station in front of the Paradise City Hotel, Yeongjongdo Island
