Regarding Eggshell Montage Animation

Eggshell Montage is an animated video that brings together a series of looping motion artworks. Each scene is built around ambience and a sense of flowing movement, similar to running water in a river. The looping motion is smooth and continuous, and it creates a calm atmosphere for the viewer. Most shots are very wide, and the objects are small and distant, so the audience can feel placed inside the scene. The artworks were illustrated in Photoshop on a tablet and animated in After Effects. Projection on a wall increases the impact of the viewing experience.

About Lok Kee Rocky Fong

Rocky Fong is a Hong Kong Visual Artist. He worked as Visual Producer in creative field for around 10 years. He provided visual services for many companies such as Fox and Cartoon networks. His creative profession included motion graphics, art direction and video filming. He found his own studio, Eggshellsea Production Limited, in 2017. Other then TV commercials and SFX, his studio provided services for concert and show stage videos, for example the 36th and 38th Hong Kong Film Award Ceremony. In 2019, Rocky started to creat his personal art works.

Design Details

Unique Properties: For each of these pieces in this video montage, I focused on the ambience of the scene. I wish to creat a sense of "flowing", like "running water" in the river, by looping the movement of the objects in a fluent way and built an atmosphere which the audience could immerse their emotions in. For most of the pieces, I made the shot very wide. Most of the objects were very small and far. I wish the audience could have the feeling that they were standing right inside the scene when they were watching it.
Inspiration: This is a Montage of my looping artworks created in 2020. During the most distressing times of corona and miserable low tide of social movement in 2020, I tried to creat motion pieces which could help to calm the emotional roller coaster of mine and the audience.
Realization and Technology: First illustrated in photoshop on iPad and animated in Aftereffects.
Operation and Interaction: I made the shot very wide. Most of the objects were very small and far. I wish the audience could have the feeling that they were standing right inside the scene when they were watching it. So if the artworks are projected on a wall, the watching experience will be much more impactful.
