About Kamimachi Japanese Noodle Restaurant
Kamimachi is a Japanese noodle restaurant located in the centre of Shanghai. The interior is arranged around a large roof form that creates a sheltered area, so guests dine as if under deep eaves. A layer of white wood is used as a louver, and it gently wraps the people, the space and the food. The roof and eaves recall the atmosphere of a Japanese veranda within a large city. The restaurant is set on the second floor, and the design follows the theme of eating on a pier under a big roof. Kamimachi balances the movement of the metropolis with the stillness of the interior.

Design Details
- Unique Properties
- To eat under the roof, under the eaves, is to be comfortable, By wrapping the layer of white wood as a louver, it gently wraps people, it gently wraps the space and it gently wraps the food. By creating a space under the eaves in the form of a roof, we have been able to create an atmosphere similar to that of a Japanese veranda in a big city. I think we have achieved an interesting balance between the "movement" of the metropolis and the "stillness" of the interior space of the restaurant.
- Inspiration
- This restaurant is located in the centre of Shanghai. The owner's vision is to spread Japanese noodle and food culture to China and the world, and as this is his first restaurant, he wanted the design to be Japanese. We thought about the Japanese style and the elements of the restaurant, and because it is located on the 2nd floor, we thought about the theme of "eating on a pier with a big roof".
