About The R Series Rack System
The R Series is a modular rack system designed for automated measurement technology. The R Series offers upward and downward compatibility within the product family. Alongside a centered 19 inch rack, the Rack R90 and the Rack R180 provide one or two accessible installation spaces on each side for electrical switchgear assemblies, IT systems or similar equipment. The separation of the 19 inch core from the installation spaces allows sensitive measuring devices to be combined with conventional electrical devices in a single mobile system. The structure is made of lightweight aluminum.
About Christian Geistberger
Profectronics' core competence is the development, design, manufacture and integration of customer-specific test solutions. Depending on the requirements, its range of services extends from the development of individual system modules to the creation of fully automated complete systems. In order to be able to provide these sustainably and efficiently, Profectronics has developed its own product group based on the classic 19-inch rack design. Due to the orientation towards industry standards, a wide range of implementations for customers from the automotive industry, aerospace as well as environmental measurement technology could be realized in a efficient way.

This recognition makes Christian Geistberger a winner of 1 A' Design Award.
About the A' Commercial Appliance Design Award
The A' Commercial Appliance Design Award is an international commercial appliance design competition recognizing good commercial appliance designs worldwide. The competition is organized within the A' Design Award & Competition and is open to commercial appliance designers, commercial appliance brands, industrial equipment designers and heavy-duty appliance designers from all countries. Entries typically include commercial ovens, industrial refrigerators and freezers, commercial dishwashers, laundry equipment, food processors and mixers and heating and cooling systems. Awarded commercial appliance designs are published at https://designers.org/design-category/commercial-appliance
About A' Design Award & Competition
A' Design Award & Competition is an international, juried design accolade organized annually since 2008. The competition is open to entries from all countries. The A' Design Award has a philanthropic mission to advance society through good design by recognizing and promoting superior products, projects and services that benefit society, and by creating a global awareness and appreciation for good design practices and principles. Entries are peer reviewed and anonymously evaluated by an international grand jury panel of established academics, design professionals and press members against predetermined criteria such as functionality, ergonomics, engineering, presentation, innovation, usability, sustainability and technology, with score normalization applied to remove biases. Awards are conferred at Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Iron levels. The A' Design Prize granted to eligible laureates includes the award trophy, the certificate of design excellence, the hardcover yearbook, a lifetime license to use the A' Design Award winner logo, exhibition of awarded works, an invitation to the gala night and award ceremony in Italy, inclusion in the World Design Rankings and Designer Rankings, and public relations and publicity services. Registration, the upload of a work and the preliminary score are free of charge, and Professional and Digital Edition laureates are not contractually obliged to pay further fees to claim the A' Design Prize. Design Details
- Unique Properties
- The PROFECTRONICS rack design family is characterized by upward and downward compatibility within the product family. In addition to the centered 19 inch rack system, the Rack R90 and Rack R180 also have one or two easily accessible installation spaces on each side. These provide space for electrical switchgear assemblies, IT systems or similar. Due to the design separation of the 19 inch core and the installation spaces, highly sensitive measuring devices can be combined with conventional electrical devices and all this in a single mobile system.
- Inspiration
- Product development, manufacturing and environmental technology are just three of the wide range of applications for automated measurement technology. This results in a constantly growing technical sub-sector in a world with an increasing degree of automation. To place the instruments of an automated system, sustainably and with a demand for design and technology, that is the goal and field of application of the product family of PROFECTRONICS, which has specialized in measurement automation since 2016.
- Research
- Starting with old-fashioned but proven instruments, the first prototypes were sketched on paper and then manufactured in foam. When the first contours were in line with functionality and ergonomics, Solidworks was used as the CAD programme. From this point on, there was a balance between creative freedom and feasibility. The research was quite emotional. Especially in the research-intensive medical sector, design is quite popular. In the conventional production sector, on the other hand, design is often regarded as secondary. Accordingly, there are few competing products in this sector. This is certainly an advantage, as design is seen as a benchmark for future products.
- Challenge
- The most difficult part of the design was ensuring functionality. For example, different areas in the rack must be hermetically sealed, shield electromagnetic radiation, waterproof, lightweight and at the same time ergonomic for all-day use. Use of special or composite materials at the expense of recyclability was out of the question.
- Realization and Technology
- The selection of materials is in line with our corporate philosophy Engineered in Austria. Produced in Europe. Delivered worldwide. The entire rack system was manufactured in lightweight aluminum. Lower weight and therefore reduced transport costs and Co2 savings justify higher manufacturing costs. Butt corners and surfaces are made of recycled PET-HD materials. The aluminum construction and the recycled plastic give the rack family a certain "heavy-duty" look, which, however, stands out as a fine mechanical and well thought-out construction element upon closer inspection or detailed solutions.
- Operation and Interaction
- The R Series family is the base of test systems used in laboratories, in development departments, but also as end-of-line test systems for production lines. The design of this equipment line focuses on functionality, simple operation and is conceived as a modular construction kit. Clear compact design and durability are the design criteria, the aim of which is based on "form follows emotional function". With a few simple steps, the respective modules can be placed or exchanged in the frame construction. The same applies to the assembly and disassembly of the cladding parts, which facilitate service and maintenance work.
- Project Duration and Location
- The project was launched in March 2021 in Linz, Austria. Starting with a single product the family was designed and developed step by step by the needs of our costumers.
