Design Details
- Unique Properties
- Shanghai reeb 'Noble Gathering' Clubhouse: A Refined Urban Retreat Nestled within the Shanghai reeb complex—a transformative urban regeneration of the former reeb Brewery in Minhang District—the Noble Gathering (Huicui Jiuli) clubhouse offers a sophisticated sanctuary for residents of its high-end serviced apartments. This exclusive space blends Shanghai’s cultural heritage with contemporary luxury, creating an environment tailored for discerning urban elites .
- Inspiration
- The clubhouse’s design embraces a modern "Haipai" (Shanghai-style) aesthetic, reinterpreting the city’s iconic Shikumen architectural motifs through a contemporary lens. Emphasis is placed on the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering a fluid, scenic experience .
- Research
- In the initial phase, the design team conducted on-site surveys of Shanghai’s historical and cultural buildings, collecting architectural and interior design elements. These were categorized, analyzed, refined, and reimagined through a modern lens to align with contemporary aesthetics, then integrated into the clubhouse design. Key examples include the Shikumen, an iconic traditional architectural feature, reinterpreted as a streamlined modern spatial motif using contemporary materials. Additionally, linear elements from traditional buildings were simplified and abstracted into sleek decorative lines incorporated into the interior.
- Challenge
- The project site was originally a modern office building. Per the client’s requirements, it was repurposed into a high-end serviced apartment complex. The scope of this design project focuses on the renovation of the clubhouse space that supports the serviced apartments. The key design challenges of the project included the following: 1.Spatial reconfiguration: Specifically, how to fully leverage the high-ceilinged lobby space to create more multi-functional clubhouse areas. 2.Stylistic coherence during transition: Achieving a cohesive aesthetic while retaining some of the original decorative surfaces.
- Realization and Technology
- Materials are meticulously curated, featuring natural marble, textured black wood, handcrafted bronze metalwork, and gold-leaf accents, all reflecting a harmony of tradition and innovation .
- Operation and Interaction
- Facilities cater to diverse lifestyles, encompassing a garden-style entrance courtyard, a hotel-style lobby, and versatile areas including a lounge, bar, business meeting room, reading zone, children’s play area, gym, yoga room, tea room, billiards room, and card games room . By leveraging the site’s industrial heritage and prime location, the Noble Gathering clubhouse provides a serene, culturally rich retreat—a testament to luxurious, modern living in Shanghai .
- Project Duration and Location
- The project commenced in November 2024, was completed in May 2025, and was officially opened to the public in July 2025. It is located in Shanghai, China.
