Design Details

Unique Properties
Day Go is a modular armchair inspired by the silhouette of a Taiwanese teapot. It features a distinct two-tone aesthetic, contrasting a plush velvet seat with a rigid, recyclable base. Engineered for the Circular Economy, its Design for Disassembly structure allows for easy parts replacement and material separation. This design harmonizes emotional cultural storytelling with rational sustainable utility.
Inspiration
The design is inspired by the Taiwanese phonetic similarity of Day Go to Te-koo (Teapot) Just as a teapot holds warmth, this armchair's spherical body is designed to envelope the user. The flowing lines of the armrests mimic a pouring spout, translating the visual language of traditional ceramics into a modern sanctuary. It represents a physical vessel for emotional comfort, inviting a moment of pause in a busy life.
Research
Research combined cultural ethnography with sustainable engineering. The objective was to translate the Taiwanese teapot's hospitality into a circular furniture piece. Methodology involved morphological analysis of ceramic forms for ergonomics and testing modular connections for disassembly. Results achieved a glue-free structure that separates for recycling. This provides a tangible solution for sustainable luxury, blending emotional storytelling with industrial functionality.
Challenge
The primary challenge was engineering a glue-free assembly that maintains the seamless aesthetic of a traditional ceramic vessel. Balancing the Design for Disassembly requirement with the structural integrity needed for a heavy-duty swivel chair posed significant technical hurdles. Extensive prototyping was required to ensure the hidden mechanical fasteners provided absolute stability without disrupting the chair's fluid, organic curves.
Realization and Technology
Engineered for the Circular Economy, Day Go features a modular architecture prioritizing Design for Disassembly (DfD). Unlike traditional furniture, it avoids permanent adhesives. The structure consists of three separable modules a molded recyclable base shell, a heavy-duty metal swivel mechanism, and a removable upholstered seat. These components are connected via mechanical fasteners, allowing for easy repair, fabric replacement, and efficient material sorting for recycling.
Operation and Interaction
The Day Go Armchair offers an intuitive user experience centered on relaxation. Its concealed swivel mechanism allows for smooth 360-degree rotation, enabling flexible social interaction within any space. The deep seat naturally guides the body into a comfortable posture. Interaction extends to maintenance: the upper seat module is designed to be easily detached from the base by the user, making cleaning or fabric replacement simple.
Project Duration and Location
Design project began in Taipei, Taiwan in May 2025, focusing on conceptual sketching and morphological development. The structural engineering and prototype phases, particularly the refining of the module connections, were completed in November 2025. The final mass-produced model will be completed and photographed in Taipei in June 2026. The project is currently completed and is ready to launch in the international market in 2027.
Specifications
Dimensions: 820 mm (W) x 820 mm (D) x 800 mm (H). Seat Height: 430 mm. Weight: 25kg. Materials: Upper seat module features high-resilience polyurethane foam upholstered in premium velvet fabric. The base shell is constructed from recycled impact-resistant ABS polymer. The core connects via a heavy-duty powder-coated steel 360-degree swivel mechanism. Package: Modular design allows for compact shipping in two separate boxes to minimize carbon footprint.
