There is quite a lot of these mixed contemporary designs on the market here in China today, usually based ontraditional designs but with either modern materials or new expressions. Yuyuyu is a Chinese restaurant, designer have created a new way to express Oriental design, a new Installation composed of lines and dots, those are extended from the door to the inside of the restaurant. With the change of times, people's aesthetic appreciation is also changing. For contemporary Oriental design, innovation is very necessary.
About Ren Xiaoyu
Since establishing 1-Cube design in 2014, Ren Xiaoyu has embarked on a road of developing his own style in design. As an architect and interior designer, he dedicated to researching and exploring the behaviours of people in the context of the new era, and the relationship between experience and space. The types of practice projects are diverse and mostly revolve around people's functional or spiritual needs in space. Design Details
- Unique Properties
- This is a Chinese restaurant, the designer have abandoned traditional symbolic elements and boldly used lines and points to design. It is intended to express the oriental mood, and to create a feeling of "peaceful comfort" that could not be experienced in the past traditional Chinese restaurants where the worldliness is far too strong.
- Inspiration
- We sets a simple Chinese decoration on the wall of the dining area, which is combined the vertical lines with the outline of the mountain. Meanwhile, the pine, stone and white sand express the simple and restrained Chinese aesthetics. The end of the dining area is made up of a screen, which depicts the picture of a fish passing through the lotuses. It constitutes the center of vision.
- Research
- The designer boldly used the array device composed of lines and dots, those are extended from the door to the inside of the restaurant, which blurred the internal and external boundaries and increased the visibility of the line of sight. The device is used from the door to the partition inside the dining room and the ceiling in the dining area.
- Challenge
- Traditional Chinese restaurant, how to give new features and details, designers have abandoned traditional symbolic elements and boldly used lines and points to design. It is intended to express the oriental mood, and to create a feeling of "peaceful comfort" that could not be experienced in the past traditional Chinese restaurants where the worldliness is far too strong.
- Realization and Technology
- We used the array installation composed of lines and dots, those are extended from the door to the inside of the restaurant, which blurred the internal and external boundaries and increased the visibility of the line of sight. The device is used from the door to the partition inside the dining room and the ceiling in the dining area.
- Operation and Interaction
- The entire space is made of the materials that include ferrous metal, wood, and grey stone of the floor. Thus, they are quite in line with the restaurant's steady, restrained temperament. Designers have abandoned traditional symbolic elements and boldly used lines and points to design. It is intended to express the oriental mood, and to create a feeling of "peaceful comfort" that could not be experienced in the past traditional Chinese restaurants where the worldliness is far too strong.

- The project started in October 2018 in Shenzhen and finished in March 2019 in Shenzhen.
