In 2010, I led the local villagers of Pingtian together to open a studio in the village, about a dozen people in scale, they insisted on manual production, and the layers of craftsmanship were meticulous and solid. From gathering into bamboo joints, planing into bamboo slices, subdividing bamboo filaments, weaving into bamboo weaving utensils, to deburring to mildew and insect control in the later stage. Dao Dao's manual operation, Pingtian's bamboo weaving products are all made by the village's masters with decades of bamboo weaving experience. I knit with these masters every day, that's when I first started designing.
