Design Challenge
It is difficult to use terrazzo which is a kind of heavy material and mainly used on the ground on both the ceiling and the wall. Under many tests, finally a terrazzo could be cut into three sheets of the same thickness and these laminas could be attached to the entire space.
Research
In keeping with the spirit of urbanism proclaimed by Venturi in Learning from Las Vegas, it is important to learn from the great city, Shanghai. Through the narrative reconstruction of old buildings and new Spaces, the designer hope to elegantly intervene in the space-time fabric of the city with the design which is full of the spirit of the Times. Therefore, the designer used a minimalist spatial narrative to inject great vitality into the tiny volume.
Inspiration
Mr Tschumi says, Architecture is not simply about space and form, but also about event, action and what happens in space. Form follows fiction. The design team plan to use a minimalist spatial narrative to inject great vitality into the tiny volume. In this small square box, we redefined boundaries, scale and function, and created a green jungle which was full of the spirit of urbanism with restrained but balanced design.
Project Duration
The project is located at 758 Julu Road, Jing 'an District, Shanghai, China. And the project started in January 2021 and finished in July 2021.
Operation Flow
The style of day and night is different. The style of the day need to maintain retail like WAT products and peripherals to reduce the pressure of the rent and make people feel relaxed and pleasant. However, the bar style need to transform the atmosphere which get customers excited. So the material, color, and style of the soft outfit on the vision were chosen celadon terrazzo and snowflake metal plate. And lighting, music and wine decoration are used to distinguish different business hours.
