About Abrete y Cierrate Kapp

Abrete y Cierrate on liuguksega hoiukapp. Uksed on moodustatud ümbertöödeldud naharibade punutisest, mis on ühendatud metallneetidega. Konstruktsioon on valmistatud Argentina Patagoonia lenga-puidust, mis on lõigatud numbrilise juhtimisega masinatega ja viimistletud veepõhise polüuretaanlakiga. Puidu sisse on paigaldatud eritellimusel valmistatud magnetkinnitused, nii et iga uks sulgub pehmelt kahe metallsiini abil. Punutis muutub vaatenurga ja uste liikumisega, luues muutuvat valgust ja varju. Kapi mõõtmed on 1200 × 600 × 800 millimeetrit.

Unique Properties
Its name is linked to the limits between the interior and exterior. To the relationship between the transformation of the weft when opening and closing and the change generated with the contrasts of light and shadow that occurs as the day goes by.
We developed custom magnetic sockets inserted into the wood. They produce a subtle closing sensation when the panel is slid over the rails and brought closer to the structure. To produce it, we used noble and ecological materials such as recycled leather and Lenga wood, thus achieving a fusion between the conceptual and the traditional aspects.
Dimensions & Packaging
Dimensions: L1200 x W600 x H 800 mm. The wood chosen is Lenga, a native type from the Argentine Patagonia.
Surface finish:
The wood is finished with water-based polyurethane lacquer. The recycled leather is laser cut and the edge of each strip is painted.
The leather strips that make up the doors are joined with metal rivets.
The legs and rails are made of powder-coated metal rods.

Production Technology
Production is made by fusing traditional techniques with numerical control machinery. The doors are made of a weft generated from strips of recycled leather joined together with rivets and other hardware. The structure is made of Lenga wood and CNC cut. It consists of a lid, base, and middle shelf. All these parts are supported by 4 columns that contain the magnetic fasteners as well as the wooden hardware attached to the frame. Two metal rods allow for smooth sliding. The legs are made of metal rod.
Design Challenge
The biggest challenge was the production of the panels and textures to obtain an ethereal weave that interacts with the user and the environment. Finding the right material in terms of thickness and internal composition was a challenging search. Recycled leather was chosen for the noble nature of the material and also for the elasticity generated when recycling it and mixing it with other additives to achieve this new laminate composite. The doors are assembled by hand, joining the strips one by one with rivets and turned bronze pieces.
Research
It is the result of exploring how an object that is theoretically static, but always in motion depending on how you look at it, is seen and perceived. We experimented with different materials to achieve the necessary expansion and compression. The structure is defined by the wood, as a traditional container, framing the doors that represent this experimental game between what is seen and what is not seen, between light and shadow. We experimented with the limits of light and shadow and how the point of view changes the perception of what we see.
Inspiration
Inspired in garlands, decorations and symbols of affection, celebration and commemoration, in how they contract and expand, changing shape through movement. The weft changes, interacting with the user and the environment depending on the point of view and through the movement of the panels. Textures emerge with moving lights and shadows, merging the interior and exterior, what is visible and what is not.
Project Duration
The project begin en Buenos Aires en el 2015 and was finished in Buenos Aires in 2016.
Was exhibited for the first time in Wanted Design/Launch Pad 2016, in the Salone Satellite in April 2017, was part of the Argentine Design Hallmark 7th edition in Buenos Aires 2018, D&D + Dara exhibition in Buenos Aires 2017 and in MADE (Mercado Arte Design) in August 2019.
Operation Flow
The product has a unique characteristic related to the way it is used and whether or not it shows what is inside. Depending on the viewing angle, the texture changes, and also with the movement of the doors, it interacts with the user and the environment, even when at rest. The use of the product is simple, the doors that are suspended on rails slide through them, the locks and closures are magnetic.
