About Accordio Húsdier Hûs

Accordio is in draachbere húsdierhûs makke fan silikoan. It lichtgewicht lichem fâldet as in accordeon, sadat it hûs maklik meidroegen wurde kin by aktiviteiten bûten en op reis. It silikoan oerflak is ienfâldich skjin te meitsjen. Troch beide kanten yn te drukken wurdt it hûs kompakt ta ien seisde fan syn folsleine grutte. Acht fersterke magnetyske frames soargje foar strukturele stabiliteit en hâlde de yninoar klapte foarm byinoar, wêrtroch de foarm plat en kompakt bliuwt. In stoffen kessen past yn it yninoar klapte hûs foar handich transport.

Unique Properties: Accordio is a design study about portable pet houses. The silicone pet house is light-weighted and collapsible as an accordion-like structure. It is easy to clean and carry during outdoor activities and travels.

Production Technology: Accordio is made with silicone. Each magnetic frame (a total of 8) is reinforced for structural stability. Once collapsed, these frames adhere each other and keep it compact and portable.
Design Challenge: The biggest challenge was how to keep accordio in a flattened shape when it is collapsed. Several ways were explored such as snap buttons, strap and etc. Amongst them, magnetic frames were chosen to be an ideal solution as they could provide structural stability as well as visual clarity.
Research: Accordio is a design study about portable pet houses. The design explores the use of silicone for pet housing. The light-weighted and safe nature of silicone provides many potentials for a portable pet house.
Inspiration: Accordio was first inspired by my niece's silicone bowl plate. I was intrigued by its flexibility and portability. After some research, I found that silicone also has a fascinating collapsible feature, which was later adopted into a foldable house.
Project Duration: The project started in June 2020 in Calgary, Canada and finished in July 2020 in Banff, Canada.
Operation Flow: This silicone house can be compressed in a 1/6 size by pushing both sides. A fabric cushion can be conveniently fit into the collapsed form for portability.
