About Cotton Spate Werjeftekonsole

Boektekst: Cotton Spate is in werjeftekonsole ûntwurpen foar in pop-up winkel. De konsole toant in lyts oantal produkten, sadat de oandacht by elk item bliuwt. De foarm is ynspirearre troch fjilden fan organyske Pima-katoenblommen, dy't by in mar yn Peru groeie. In wyt trijediminsjonaal weagjend oerflak hâldt tinne rûne metalen platen dy't de items drage. It weagjende diel is heechdichte skom, mei de hân foarme út in kompjûtermodel, en de platen binne wyt skildere metaal. De toanbank en de bûtenste omkasting binne makke fan hout. Production Technology
The wavy material is high-density foam and crafted by hand by referencing a three-dimensional computer model. The circular surface is white painted metal inserted into the high-density foam. The counter and outside enclosure of the console is crafted by the carpenter with wood.
Design Challenge
The hardest part of this project is to compose the right material and tools for archiving a three-dimensional surface portion due to the budget limitation. Usually, the best ways to compose such a design, it is best to utilize CNC digital fabrication, however, it costs too much for this pop-up shelf. In the end, the attentive solution is to incorporate other industry master craftsmen to cut the high-density foam by hand by referencing the computer model.
Research
The main objective of this project is to find the most efficient ways to craft a three-dimensional surface by choosing the right material and crafting tools. By incorporating other industry skills, the design archive the minimum expanse to assemble the shelf.
Inspiration
The inspiration for the design is the filed of organic Pima cotton flower which the brand exclusively used for its product. The Pima cotton flower grows by the lake in Peru and it creates a strong impression of purity. The shelf incorporates the identity of the brand by creating a white three-dimensional wavy surface and host circular thin metal plates to present their items.
Project Duration
The design phase started in July, finished construction in September and opened to the public on October 2019.
Operation Flow
The customer accesses from the front side to the items, while the store operator stands behind the counter. There is also storage space underneath of wavy surface console to keep their stock for sales.
